Inspector Gadget

Recommended Posts

On a lark, I decided to pop this in my old VCR. This has always been a sentimental favorite of mine. (Inspector Gadget was my nickname in high school).

As I was watching it, I couldn't help but notice how some of the humor, while funny for small kids, took on a totally new dimension now that I'm older. After a few years, I can still say I like the movie, though I didn't like how they made Claw so visible (Rupert Everett was great in the over-the-top way) and how the kick-ass car of the cartoon was changed to the comedic sidekick. And of course Michelle Trachtenberg was great as penny.

What are your thoughts?

The cartoon had Voice God Frank Welker in it. :) Therefore by default > the movie.

The movie had...uh...Mr. Sarah Jessica Parker, right? BOOO!!

Uh. I remember Jon Stuart making fun of Mathew Broddrick for plugging that movie a day after he was on The Daily Show.

And French Stuart did the title role for the second one, for anybody wondering how south his career went after 3rd Rock.

Watched the cartoon when I was younger. It was a fun show. The hand bit with Dr. Claw was a great hook for keeping people tuned in. Back in my young days when I trained incorrectly I would do around 30 pushups every 3rd commercial break until I got up to around three or four hundred. I think this was part of the TV block I'd do it in so it's a sentimental show for me.

Cartoon was great, never saw the movie.

The theory around the school yard was that Dr. Claw & Gadget's "boss" were the same guy. I guess the main reasoning was that his "boss" was tired of having the messages self-destruct in his face. We could never explain, however, how his boss could be w/ Gadget at the end while Dr. Claw was escaping.

I must know...how does one have the nickname "Inspector Gadget" bestowed upon them?

And I avoided the movie like the plague, by the way.

Back in my freshman ans sophomore years, I wor a greay trenchcoat and fedora, hence the nickname. (I was also nicknamed Grimdyana Bones due to that hat).

And I agree the cartoon was greater than the movie. But for what it was, the movie was enjoyable. (Though I hated how they cut out scenes that were shown in the previews due to content.)

I once read some Inspector Gadget erotic fiction, and it was one of the most insane, hilarious things I've ever seen. Probably second only to the Leave It To Beaver/Mr. Ed crossover slash.

But anyway, I did like the cartoon when I was young, but it's been a long time since I've seen it. I remember the song better than anything else.

I never cared about it or had an interest to see it, but now that Dawn is in it I want to rent it.

I think more then anything else that says how far south Inspector Gadget went after the first movie.

I avioded the movie at all costs, I used to love the show as a kid and I knew the movie would destroy all my happy memorys, so I just decided to leave well enough alone.

I actually went to see it in the theaters in a 'Hmmm what's playing... oh fuck it, lets see Inspector Gadget' sort of way and I think a lot of the people that loved the cartoon that avoided the movie would be plesantly surprised. In which I mean I remember like four seconds of the movie, but I remember I had a good time. A whole lot better than I thought it would be.

I, like most who have posted, loved the cartoon as a kid. I avoided the film for a while thinking it would ruin my memories of the cartoon. However, when I did get to watch it I thought it was an entertaining little film. It may not be exactly the same as the cartoon and certainly not as good but it certainly was entertaining enough for me.

The movie was one of the most horrible things I've ever seen in my entire life. Rupert Everet COMPLETELY DESTROYED CLAW, though it was hardly his fault. I can only imagine that the sequel is worse. It just came out over here and in IG2 Inspector Gadget gets a female robot police partner...........I'm sure hilarity ensues :s

What a horrible, horrible movie. Would have been just another manic, assembly-line Disney film had it not been based on a CLASSIC cartoon, which has now been utterly destroyed in my eyes.

And yes, I had a few of the action figures. I could never find Dr. Claw, but would have gone insane if I'd know they showed his face (I recently saw a picture of it and was actually disappointed, but still, it's DR. CLAW'S FACE.)

Ew...

It wouldn't surprise me at all if there's a porn parody out there somewhere.
