EdwardKnoxII 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 Ok I was thinking about this. Have you notice as of late how, when it comes to Marvel, all the covers to comic books look the same. It seems all it is is one of the title members doing some kind of pose like they are doing the cover to GQ. I mean take the covers to Cable and Deadpool. All the covers are have been the same, Cable posing in the back and Deadpool posing in the front looking "cool". Whatever happened to the days when the cover of the comicbook had something to do with the story in the book? I miss the days were they had the hero and badguy fighting on the cover. With big words saying something like IN THIS ISSUE SOMEONE DIES or THE FIGHT YOU'RE BEEN WAITING FOR. So am I the only one that feels this way?

With big words saying something like IN THIS ISSUE SOMEONE DIES or THE FIGHT YOU'RE BEEN WAITING FOR. So am I the only one that feels this way? Well, the Cable and Deadpool covers all looking the same can be attributed to a certain "artist's" ability to draw only a few poses. I am shocked, though, that we haven't gotten a pose where Deadpool's mask is ripped and he's gritting/gnashing his teeth... It seems like most comics actually go for the "movie poster" look. I suppose that it in part would be because so many books have a designated "cover artist" who draws whatever, but may not actually match up with the story inside. But for others, I've got no clue. I'll have to go back through my box, but I think that FKAT Justice League had blurbs on the covers. And stuff like Alpha Flight and She-Hulk NEED those blurbs, given their status as "humourous" comics.
pochorenella 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 Let's see... Avengers, yes. Ultimate Spidey, yes. Iron Man, yes. X-Men, yes. Amazing Spidey, yes. Ultimate X-Men, yes. Holy shit, you're right. I miss the days when the cover actually had something to do with the story. I blame Todd McFarlane for this, he started it with Spawn IIRC. His covers never had a thing to do with the inside story. Frankly, if he hadn't had those issues with Sim, Gaiman, Miller and Moore(?) I don't think he'd have a clue as to how to carry the "story" any further than he had already. Steviekick 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 I think one of the reasons Marvel is so generic cover happy is to be able to reproduce stuff for the poster/t-shirt market quickly. A lot of it is done way in advanced and they have a stockpile of potential cover art.

It's Cable's LEFT arm that is bionic NOT the right dumbass. You think that the guy that created him would know that.

[/sarcasm] Wait, what I MEANT to say is that the Spawn covers had nothing to do with, with... with what was going on inside the comics, or something. Yeah, that's the ticket. Speaking of covers, Kaare Andrews does some swank work everytime.
TheBigSwigg 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2004 I was pissed a month or two ago when the Wolverine covers started looking like a generic comic book cover. For a while the covers were very artistic, and though they didn't have anything to do with the story directly, definitely portrayed the mood well. Now they look just the same as everything else
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2004 Those paintings they used were really awesome. Although the cover of the first issue of the Wolverine relaunch made him look way too young.
TheBigSwigg 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2004 Yeah, I loved the paintings. The last issues cover was a shot of him and Sabretooth, and it looked like something from 5 years ago. I hope they go back to the paintings soon.
