1234-5678 Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 I went to a NFG show a couple of years ago. It was pretty fun times. They were at one time my favorite or 2nd favorite band. I can't listen to that album without grinning. Ever since I got a free 4 song promo CD from my college campus, I've liked them. They're not GREAT but they're fun. Fun is a word that should be used only to describe parties, playing sports, and sex. If I want fun in my music I'll buy a cd of fucking commercial jingles.
justsoyouknow Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 Granted, pop-punk bands can't be as cool as Hammerfall and whatnot, but goddamn, let people like what they want to like. I should hope they could be at least as cool as Hammerfall. Interesting factoid: New Found Glory before they became popular were a hardcore metal band. As soon as they were signed, they became pop punk, the record label changed them so. My source was a local tattoo artist that's apparently way into hardcore, and NFG is from South Florida and I guess he claims he's met them at concerts and whatnot before they became famous. According to him, they're supposed to release a hardcore album as their last hurrah and a tribute to their hardcore past, but we'll see about that. It's All About the Girls featured more raw vocals, but it was still remarkably "pop-punk". Your source smells like bullshit. Why, when signed, would they change their style completely? That kinda destroys any credibility they might be trying to shoot for.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 Hammerfall and New Found Glory both suck.

Bands would change their style almost completely to sell more records and gain recognition, fuck credibility when greenbacks are involved. At least that's the way a lot of people see things, it's not like it's unheard of.
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 Hammerfall is up there along with Manowar and Blind Guardian as the worst possible bands that could have been used in that example.
Youth N Asia Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 Yeah, it's easy to rip a genre when you pick out the shitters. That was my point
justsoyouknow Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 But that would be like saying there's a good pop-punk band. I'm yet to hear of one, the best I can come up with is, "inoffensive".
Youth N Asia Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 I guess it depends on how you catagorize things...it just can't be "rock" anymore, they need sub-catagories and sub-sub catagories

JJMc Posted June 16, 2004 Report Posted June 16, 2004 You know, I don't have a problem per se with NFG, but is the singer serious with that whiny voice? I know Billy Joe from Green Day does it, but this guy is just fucking off the chart.
Nevermortal Posted June 21, 2004 Author Report Posted June 21, 2004 Update: I decided to stay home and eat ribs and listen to Turbonegro instead.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 As far as the pop-punk thing goes they're better than most. There goes two words that should never go together. Sadly, they do. Like toothpaste and orange juice. Those go together quite well if you plan on going to work after drinking screwdrivers and not getting grief Random note; I thought Michelle Branch was just some ugly bitch that was air brushed to look good. She obviously sings as well as she looks after waking up in the morning since I've never heard a song by her. At least Amy Lee has a good voice even if the music sucks. No she doesn't. Listen to this man, he's right. The bitch whines the same lyrics over and over again. She's a female Billy Corgan with more hair and less heroin addicts surrounding her. But that would be like saying there's a good pop-punk band. I'm yet to hear of one, the best I can come up with is, "inoffensive". And what band would that be? Green Day? You should be hit for that. Green Day used the same 3 power chords and shuffled them around in a different order to write every song of theirs. They also changed speeds. They're about as inoffensive as an exposed cunt with the clap Update: I decided to stay home and eat ribs and listen to Turbonegro instead. Ribs are good but you could have listened to something better. I suggest you eat ribs while listening to Metal Church or Fates Warning next time. Maybe some Anthrax or Pantera too.
Nevermortal Posted June 21, 2004 Author Report Posted June 21, 2004 Yeah, but does Metal Church sing a song called "I Got Erection"? I rest my case.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 NeverMortal, go download The Dark album by Metal Church. Its not a concept album but it mainly takes you through a trip of the darkness in one's soul. Anger, Going Mad, and eventually killing everybody. I think you'll like it
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 It's a good thing FS has Maiden to balance out all the complete and utter horriblity he likes.
Nevermortal Posted June 21, 2004 Author Report Posted June 21, 2004 Just because you capitalized the "M", I will not. ;-/
Guest FrigidSoul Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 It's a good thing FS has Maiden to balance out all the complete and utter horriblity he likes. We can't all listen to Slipknot
Nevermortal Posted June 21, 2004 Author Report Posted June 21, 2004 What, you got something against The Heretic Anthem? If you're 555, then I'm 666.
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 I think I prefer being accused of being a closet Iced Earth Fanatic
Mole Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 I saw them this past Friday and they were alright. Punchline was A LOT better.
Placebo Effect Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 You wanna know how great New Found Glory is? I FELL ASLEEP. The one act I was looking forward to, Cypress Hill, had absolutely terrible sound, so I couldn't understand a damn word B-Real was saying despite being inside the venue. Story of the Year was the only highlight of the second stage for the most part. Auf Der Maur is just boring to watch live, as her female bassist either a) was very high or b) has very little grasp on playing her instrument, because she stationery the entire fucking time, usually looking at her chords.

Placebo Effect Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Beastie Boys did jam out pretty hard though. I heard that from just about everyone there. It was, however, right at that time that I discovered that the tent behind the second stage had free water, soda, and beer. So in the end, I hung out and watched The Living End and Townhall while getting nice and drunk for free. And yeah, there's nothing wrong with Sugarcult. They're great guys too, and put on a fun show, especially their half acoustic/half electric show they did when the singer's ear was fucked up.

Guest FrigidSoul Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 Beastie Boys did jam out pretty hard though. It figures you would like the Beastie Boys. I don't care what anybody says, they are terrible. I preached this for years to my cousin who was into their stuff. Then 2 years ago he asked me if I wanted the CD with Sabotage on it because he just didn't like them anymore. You can only immagine the spiel I threw in his direction. The lyrics have nothing to do with the quality of the voice. In that case I'd take Amy Lee over Billy Corgan anyday. Let me subtly point out the part of my statement I think you ignored At least Amy Lee has a good voice even if the music sucks. No she doesn't. Listen to this man, he's right.
