Jobber of the Week

It's splitsville for Rush

Recommended Posts

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida (AP) -- Conservative radio commentator Rush Limbaugh announced Friday that he and his wife, Marta, are divorcing.

The Limbaughs "mutually decided to end their marriage of 10 years" and have "separated pending an amicable resolution," according to a statement released by Limbaugh's publicist.

It was the third marriage for both Limbaugh, 53, and his 44-year-old wife, who were wed May 27, 1994 at the Virginia home of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. Thomas officiated the ceremony.

The couple shared a $24 million oceanfront mansion in Palm Beach. Limbaugh often broadcasts his daily three-hour show from a Palm Beach studio.

Spokesman Tony Knight said the divorce was a personal matter and declined further comment.

The past several months have been difficult for the politically and socially conservative Limbaugh, who announced in October that he was entering drug rehabilitation because he was addicted to prescription painkillers.

At the same time, West Palm Beach prosecutors announced they were investigating whether Limbaugh illegally went "doctor shopping" to obtain the pills. The practice refers to visiting several doctors to receive duplicate prescriptions of controlled narcotics.

Limbaugh, who has not been charged with any crime, has repeatedly fought back against the charges and negative publicity he's received over the matter.

Last month, he took out full-page ads in two Florida newspapers to attack prosecutors for mounting what he called a politically motivated investigation. He also regularly lashes out against prosecutors and reporters and defends himself during his show.

The criminal case against Limbaugh is on hold pending a decision from a Florida appeals court. It will decide whether the seizure of Limbaugh's medical records, which were taken by investigators in November, violated privacy laws.

Prosecutors say they need the records to determine whether to bring charges against Limbaugh.

Thank God we have good conservative men like Rush Limbaugh out there preserving the sanctity of marriage. I mean, if the people who yell and whine about marriage being under attack as an institution can't keep a model marriage for the rest of us, then who possibly could?

Why is this a story? Rush keeps his private life private. It's none of our business one way or the other. Besides, we have NO idea why it happened and it's unlikely we ever will.

But it is ever nice of the left to find joy in other's shortcomings.

*shrug* I had a hoot reading Ariana Huffington's tax returns (where she ended up paying less than I do because of a lot of tax loopholes). This is no different.

If someone makes his living preaching "conservative values" is working on his third divorice, then it certainly is newsworthy...

That's not true. It's not really about laughing at his misfortune, it's more about hypocrisy. Similar to how when Michael Moore was found to have given jobs on his website to people in Canada, everyone talked about outsourcing and how he was against it, etc. This is worse though, because one particular issue isn't as bad as talking about life values and morals and marriage and all that other garbage. When you're getting your third divorce after preaching about crap like that, you better expect to be mocked at the very least.

Truth be told, I don't know if Rush actually has been preaching about the sanctity of marriage his whole career, which is why I won't say anything. I'm just offering up an explanation.

Or how he refuses to give an interview to a would-be documentarian that wants to ask him some critical questions.

Um, when has Rush EVER played up the sanctity of marriage? That's never been a big deal for him.

Then shouldn't those who are mocking Rush now, such as Jobber, be considered hypocrites as well? If Rush is a hypocrite for speaking about the sanctity of marriage - and who knows if he has, but let's just assume for argument's sake - and then getting divorced himself, shouldn't those who are mocking him for this because of, presumably, the gay marriage issue, be considered hypocrites because most claim that marriage is something that should be considered private...and yet aren't respecting Rush's privacy on this matter?

Who cares one way or the other. This story's fluff anyway.

No, because you're playing by his rules.

And yes, Rush has gone on about family values and the foundations of a healthy marriage before.

I assume since he made his views on public on the topic, then when his strong views are shown to be bullshit he has no right to complain when he's mocked for it.

This IS fluff, but this isn't a "leftist" thing to make fun of someone else' shortcomings, as Mike said. That's just being delusional.

Monica.

Actually, they took joy in nailing Clinton for lying, directly, to the American people (remember that whole "I did not have sexual relations..." speech?) and a grand jury.

Clinton was unfaithful. I doubt anybody was shocked by it. However, it was nice to see the left, who LOVES women's rights, would go to all sorts of extremes to destroy any woman who spoke out against him.

And yes, Rush has gone on about family values and the foundations of a healthy marriage before.

He never held himself up as an example. Clinton spoke on the sanctity of marriage.

Random thought about hypocrisy... I always found it strange how the women's libbers stood by Clinton during all of his infedelity scandals... still kind of boggles my mind

Funny, I seem to remember Clinton receiving an image as a bit of a sex addict.

Oh, and I found this on a Blog. It's dated July 16 '96

Marriage is simply the way humanity has discovered that it is the best way to build a building block of an orderly society and sustain it. That's all it is. It is also the means by which you produce legitimate offspring. And I--and I've--whatever else Barney and his mate do, they cannot do that. And that's the soul purpose--now look, we're devaluing marriage--a lot of divorce. Got to fix that. There is way, way too much illegitimacy in this country, and it's leading to the crime rate. This business of the gay marriage is nothing more than a money grab, in my opinion, so people can get on the welfare rolls or the benefit rolls, in state offices and other--and other places.

I--I really do not even think marriage is a right. Marriage is a responsibility. It's not a gift that somebody says, Hey, now it's time for you to get married. It's our bestowal to you.' It's--it's a--it's a commitment that you make and it is a responsibility that you accept. And it's--to--to be--to be tossed around in this manner is to devalue it, which is to devalue the fundamental building block of our society. And I think that's what's wrong with this whole process of same-sex marriage. It just simply denies the definition of what the institution is.

He sure seemed to stutter a lot. Probably couldn't say all that with a straight face.

Or maybe because many of us stutter quite a bit when making small talk, let alone have our every word be broadcast to millions of people throughout the country.

Nice pseudo-conspiracy though -- I give it a 7.0 for effort...

The femnazi you're thinking of is Catharine MacKinnon but the quote was misattributed to her.

I thought he wrote that down, and was "stuttering" like that. It's funny how a joke that I made about it, and it was a joke, is twisted into the GIANT LIBERAL CONSPIRACY~! Quick to latch onto anything are we?
