I've done it.

I've spoken to a doctor that smokes and believes it killing you to be a "myth".

I think that's fucking bullshit, and consider that doctor to be moronic if he seriously thinks that it does nothing to you.

But I on my high horse when I figured I'd quit... But I'm back to normal now, so I'm back to my normal state of mind: Christina Aguilera has herpes, but I'll pay the price of an infection until I die for one evening to make her never able to walk again.

Back to your normal state of mind being under the influence of excess dopamine secretions from your brain.......... you tool.

Smokers don't have a real state of mind they have a numbed view of everything.

hmmm, strong argument.

I don't know

You've really made me question my beliefs with that one.

croweater, I don't think you're on the same wavelength as everyone else...

But if your first paragraph four posts above is a question about tobacco, then the answer is yes.

Then I consider it ironic that your natural state of mind is a artificially chemically unbalanced one.

Um... You're not insinuating that nicotine affects your state of mind, are you?

Clearly my fascism is running wild on the board.

I'll do my research.

You find a dictionary.

Do some research, the both of you.

Nicotine acts as a competitive antagonist to acetylcholine preventing parasympathetic stimulation and hence increasing sympathetic stimulation.

The result of this is dopamine and nor-epinephrine increase, these increase heart rate and contractility, cause vaso-constriction, antagonise muscuranic receptors which cause bronchodilation (you have a greater lung capacity).

Generally thresholds become lower so action potentials become generated more rapidly.

To put it in normal terms, parasympathetic stimulation generally causes depression of various organs and everything as a whole. You may imagine after having a big meal you'll feel tired and lethargic. This is the parasympathetic nervous system. Smoking has an "anti" depressant effect.

Hence it affects your state of mind.

.......any questions?

It drives me nuts that smokers and alcoholics and the like know they're killing themselves but don't try to right the ship.

And quite frankly, fuck all this crap in the thread like "Smoking is great. It's not bad. Don't listen. It gives you character. Who wants to live long anyway? I'm not telling you anything you don't already know." You know who you are, and I really hope it's just a joke. Smoking tobacco is a disgusting habit, plain and simple, and I've seen it have a part in killing too many friends and family members for me to even endorse a stance of indifference towards it.

Yeah, but if you don't really give a fuck about your long-term health, and really like to smoke, is that "righting the ship" to quit? Of course not.

I'm not joking, either. I love to smoke. Love it. Love it. Love it. I love how it tastes, I love how it smells, I love what it feels like, and my life would be less fulfilling without it. I don't care if it kills me, because death doesn't hold any power over me. I'd still smoke if they were five bucks a pack, and guaranteed death by 40. I'd still smoke if all my friends ditched me because of it, I'd still fuckin' smoke if they took all the nicotine out, and I'd DEFINITELY still smoke if it became illegal. I will smoke until I die, and there is nothing on god's green earth that will convince me different.

Fair enough, though I can't imagine you enjoying it as much if they took the nicotine out of it. It would probably make you dislike the taste and smell.

I find it annoying however that evolution ceases to be an issue in most chronic disease, otherwise it would have gotten rid of smokers by now.

Smokers are impossible to eradicate. My great grandmother smoked from the age of ten until her death seventy-nine years later.

Even I'll have a cigar every now and then. Haven't smoked one since late April though. Cigarettes I'll smoke only when I have my cigarette holder on me, and I'll smoke marijuana when I can, but it's been several weeks.

There's nothing like getting home of an afternoon and lighting up. Actually:

I love to smoke. Love it. Love it. Love it. I love how it tastes, I love how it smells, I love what it feels like, and my life would be less fulfilling without it. Exactly.

croweater, you're preaching. You remind me Jehovah's Witnesses. Speaking of which, a guy a few blocks away, a few years ago, invited some Jehovah's Witnesses into his house and fed them hash cookies.

"We thought we were going to die!"

"We couldn't ride our bikes!"

Preaching?

I'm not trying to convince anyone not to smoke. I'm offering my opinion on it. Though you must live a very sad life if the best thing you can think of doing at 15 is getting home and smoking.

"Nothing like" is a figure of speech. It's just nice to get home, take a load off, sit down and light up.

And then I go and climb trees and jump-rope and whatever the fuck else you seem to expect me to do.

Or you vastly underrate smoking.

I find it funny how you, who was raving about giving it up, is now defending it as much as you possible can. Almost like you take your course of action and then choose to justify it as oposed to justifying a course of action and taking it.

Clearly now it's smoking is much more awesome cos you're doing it again. Where as when you gave up for you're half a day it was a bad thing.

People should give up because they decide it's best. A decision like this shouldn't be over ruled in less than a day.

All that you have showed is that you have a horrible lack of will power and worse, a inability to justify your own actions.

and maybe you underrate other aspects of life making smoking pseudo-enjoyable in comparison.

I don't believe you can experience that much pleasure from sucking on a frickin burning piece of wood. Even if I did I couldn't understand your superficiality to the extent that it satisfies you, even though you know the pleasure is nothing but a fabrication.

meh, now I'm preaching.

At least cigars smell at least somewhat reasonable.

I loves me a good cigar, but as I said I don't smoke them all that often. Lasts a while if you got a good one, and it makes you feel like a big shot.

A piece of wood...? Explain.

I can understand how you can't believe some of the arguments. But if you've never done it, I can't understand how you can expect to give such a formidable argument.
