Guest Donners Report post Posted June 24, 2004 I agree that a different match would have been a better option to extend. Why bring in Miyamoto for seven minutes?

Guest Donners Report post Posted June 24, 2004 So a PPV ends with a cliffhanger that will be resolved on a free TV show? It strikes me that should be the other way around.
Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted June 24, 2004 I liked the show. The two non finishes in the Title matches really droped it for me though. I really was surprised at how much i was geting into AJ/Hardy. Overall: 7/
Guest Donners Report post Posted June 24, 2004 Typical TNA: on their biggest show of the year, they have the title upheld. Is it really the biggest show of the year? It doesn't seem to have been given that much importance from TNA in terms of build-up or the actual card. I'd think the April 30 show last year was a lot bigger than the First Anniversary show, even with Sting in the latter.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2004 BTW, Vampiro sucks. I ordered tonight. Jeff Hardy wrestled better than I thought he would. No noticeable blown spots (which occurred is like EVERY match tonight). They didn't do anything special. They MISSED THE RUN-IN of Kash and Dallas attacking Styles because of them showing the replay of Hardy's poorly executed "Whisper in the Wind", which kicked Styles right in the face. Desire is one of the worst "wrestlers" I've ever seen. Scott D'Amore had no place wrestling more than 1 minute. Jerry Lynn is a joke. Oh, during Daniels return, to a big pop, he carries the black NWA flag and starts hitting people with it. D'Amore escapes, however, and Daniels (swinging at full force because he know D'Amore is ducking, hits Lynn with the flag, legit. Not an angle. Ouch. Boring, boring show. Raven's "tribute" was shown for like 2 seconds. It was backstage, Raven wasn't even at the show. It's a mock-up of The Shiek, a skeleton wearing a turban. Lame. Guest Donners Report post Posted June 24, 2004 Am I missing something, or was Raven's advertised "tribute" not on this show? Edit: beaten to it.
Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted June 24, 2004 Yea, I wonder why they really didn't do much for the Sabu/Raven thing (not that I'm a fan of the feud, but if you're gonna do a bad feud, at least do it right) We barely saw what the "Tribute" was. Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted June 24, 2004 Ok....... They talk about wrestling traditions, but they have Championship matches with Chairshots? Titles change hands on a DQ? At least with a guitar but NOT a chair? WTF? If I wanted to see garbage matches I got a number of Axl vs Ian Rotten circa 95 ECW matches to watch

slimm44 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2004 Tonights show was great live, big pops for the legends, Jeff Hardy and AJ, and of course, The Truth! The Lynn match carried on too long for people to care. I persoanlly hate the whole angle, but hopefully it ended. The crowd has not been so hot since Sting's last two appearnaces in the Asylum, but tonight when Jeff Hardy appeared, the crowd was extremely loud. It was a mini -wrestlemania moment when the crowd chanted for AJ and Jeff which made it feel really good. Aftyer the show, there was an anniversary party like last year, not as many wrestlers came out but AMW, D'Lo, AJ, Jerry Lynn, Dallas, Kash, Shane Douglas, Sabin, Skipper and Chris Daniels and a few others came out. It was still fun, great show, bad ending, keep it up TNA!
Magus 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2004 one word for this show: BOOOO!!!!!! Jesus Tapdancin' Christ was that a crappy show! let's review the atrocities, shall we? - the green vignettes confuse and anger me. they are stupid. i would like to see whoever thought that gem up eat a bullet. - Raven wasn't there, although i can't blame him. if i were him, i'd be too fuckin' embarassed. - Vince Russo sucks as a babyface almost as much as he sucks as a heel. in fact, if someone sucks that freakin' hard... maybe you shouldn't have them on the show? Vince ruined the whole fuckin' thing by holding up the WORLD TITLE on the BIGGEST SHOW OF THE YEAR. yeah, i mean, remember how great it was when McMahon held up the WWF title at all those Wrestlemanias? sure made those shows worthwhile. the show was practically ruined by one stupid performer, and for once it wasn't Leonard. Russo, you dick, get off the fucking camera. - and the lovechild of Jeff and Vince, Little Glen, still has a job, and i'm still personally offended and insulted by his existence on this planet. i have rarely seen a motherfucker as useless as he, and not only does his current angle suck truckloads of ass, we're only going to get MORE of it! why is it that the shittiest fueds with the shittiest workers always last the longest? - okay, let's look at match time, shall we? the tag and XD title matches got about SEVEN MINUTES, and one of them didn't even have a fucking finish. but hey, we can just give MORE time to midgets, catfights, and a nonwrestler's match! its a crime that those three matches got the time that they got, while Styles wrestled seven minutes to a no contest. bullshit. - Jerry Lynn, thou name is bee-otch, for ye must carry a manager to a fifteen minute match instead of squashing him. that would make too much sense. D'Lo Brown, thou name is also bee-otch, for ye were to challenge the champion, yet ye hast been shafted into dealing with the Brown who is called Monte. then again, its hard for them to push you against the champ when they pull a no contest. once again, i say BULLSHIT. - and now, the crown jewel of this tiara of shit, the WORLD TITLE MATCH. was i the only one who felt that it was Killings trying to carry Jarrett? in any case, the match wasn't that good, and it really needed to be. so, we have a mediocre match-up, but that's not all folks. we get Dusty, Russo, Legends, and about 28 referees in this shit to make it seem important. and remember kiddies, the important thing in TNA isn't the World Title. it isn't who fought the hardest for it, who earned it, or even who wants it. the thing to remember is that Dusty Rhodes wants Russo to do the right thing, but Vince just doesn't know if he can emotionally bring himself to do it. tune in next week to see what happens. what the fuck is this, the WB? i'm sorry, i thought i was watching W-R-E-S-T-L-I-N-G! i'll bet Marty is going wild for this kinda shit... okay, rant over! man, that was a lot of swearing, but i'm glad i got it out of my system. sorry about the profanity if any were offended. i do think there were a few good spots on the show... but mainly, it sucked my left nad. at least COMIC BOOKS don't disappoint me on a regular basis. Guest sean pyro Report post Posted June 24, 2004 It's a PPV, it's your Second Anniversary, it's a show you hyped up as end all be all show so why the hell have the last two matches, the co-main events end with DQ's that give the viewer a bad taste in their mouth? This was a PPV that was used for nothing more than a set up for IMPACT, a show in which people can see for FREE. Bullshit...bullshit...bullshit.
JHawk 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2004 There is only one way they can possibly salvage the cliffhanger in the main event. Russo has to rule that since he vowed to never change a referee's decision (which Mike Tenay mentioned about 450 times tonight), then Killings is the champion since he got the pin. Give Jarrett a rematch on Impact or next week's PPV if you feel the need, but anything other than Killings' win being made official destroys any remaining credibility TNA might have and makes people think they were cheated out of my ten bucks (which, by the way, I want back for having to sit through that D'Amore-Lynn match). tekcop 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2004 Well, I was going to get the replay, but it sounds like the show sucked. According somebody on the DVDR boards, the mascarita sagrada was the original and not the awesome AAA version. Meltzer said it was suppossed to be the AAA version versus Mini Abismo Negro... which would have been awesome.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2004 The mini match was awful. The stuff WWF did in '97 with the little guys was fast-paced, fluid, and quick...non-offensive, I mean. This match had big guy and a mini that, well...blew spots, were slow, did two "whirly-dirly headscissor"-esque spots, and ended the match with a rollup. Mini Pierroth actually took Mini Sagrada's mask off, and you could see his face for a brief second. They then had to wait and adjust the mask. Just stupid crap with Mini Pierroth literally STANDING AND WAITING, bent over, for Mini Sagrada to (gently) kick him on the BUTT, and then sell it like he got hit by a truck. Stupid. TNABaddboi 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2004 This show was the first TNA show I’ve ever attended, and while I don’t know how it came across on TV, it was absolutely fantastic live. I brought 2 non-fans with me and they both enjoyed themselves so much that they now plan to watch Impact to see if Truth is given the title. Now, my random thoughts: Seeing what the Asylum looks like on the outside made me further appreciate the work the staff has put in to make it look halfway presentable on TV. It’s a freakin’ garage! I thought I went to the wrong place and had to ask someone if this was where they held the wrestling events. Once I got inside, I was stunned by how professional the set looked. Since the building is so small, it’s the first thing you see when you walk in the door and it took me by surprise. Does it look as good as the Universal Arena? No….but it looks 20 times better than it has any right too be. There was a line to get in to the show and the house looked pretty packed, but they only let people with wrist bans indicating that they paid into the post-show party and judging from that, only about half the people paid. I'd estimate the attendance between 800-1000. All the section were full I believe except the very top of the camera side bleachers. I don’t know how it translated to TV, but the crowd was hot all night long, especially for the Truth. The Xplosion matches were, of course, short and sweet, but they got the crowd going. Prime Time and Chris Sabin, Team Canada and Sabu all appeared. I’ll admit it, I marked hard for the Canadian Destroyer live. The PPV started with AMW coming out to a mixed reaction and Team Japan coming out to no reaction at all. In person, Miyamoto still comes off a Tajiri rip-off. Little “let’s go cowboy” and “let’s go wildcat” chants here and there, but not much else. Death Sentence got a pop, however. The Trinity/Desire match was loads better than I thought it was going to be and Vito appearing at the end was a nice surprise. Because they fought over to the side opposite to the big screen before going outside, most people missed the finish and weren’t aware the match was over until Trinity’s music started playing. Lynn/D’Amore was fun and got some heat, but it was long and the crowd kinda died in the middle. The came back for the end though and popped big for the cradle pile driver, however. Lots of Jerry chants in the beginning. And I let out a Holy S*** when D’Amore busted out the moonsault. The mini’s match was great comedy and the crowd enjoyed it. David Young was greeted by loser chants and Posey hitting the dropkick was met with a loud pop. I couldn’t believe how over D-Ray was. I guess it must be something that doesn’t translate to television. AJ coming out for the X-Title match set the stage for the loudest reactions of the night. Once Jeff Hardy’s name was on the screen, the place went nuts. Lots of dualing “AJ” and “Hardy” chants. Jeff even got a “He’s still got it chant” at one point. A few Team Xtreme signs were in the crowd, so I believe there wasn’t much of a surprise for some of the crowd, but most people had no idea Jeff would be there and where happy to see him. The World title match was fun as well. Truth was super over. Lots of Truth chants, Suntanned Superman chants and You Can’t Handle the Truth chants. Jarrett was getting something of a pop too, as there was a small Let’s Go Jeff chant. Fans counted the pin with the ref and celebrated the win, but groaned as Russo walked out. I believe the show ended with Dusty telling Russo to make the right decision, because they rolled the Xplosion listings on the big screen after that. After the camera’s stopped rolling, Borash said he knew and everyone else knew that the Truth was the new champ and Jarrett just kinda shook his head. James got on the mic and said the same thing, and led a loud Truth chant. Then everybody went to the back and they kicked out all the freebies. They then brought out a cake and Borash introduced the wrestlers one at a time. The ones I saw before I left were: AMW, D’Lo Brown, AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, Chris Sabin, Elix Skipper, Sonny Siaki, Desire, Trinity, the NYC (in their humiliation get-up), Kid Kash, Dallas, The Naturals (in the AMW ring gear). The wrestlers all dropped character and signed autographs and took pictures. Skipper kept joking about how he looked on the TNA Picture Pack as he was signing one of them. I got D’Lo’s autograph, took a picture and brought an AJ Styles shirt. All in all, a great time was had by all. If I lived near Nashville, I’d go every week, but since I don’t, I’ll try to go at least once a year until they start traveling and come to Atlanta (or DC where I’m in school). I hadn’t had that much fun in a long time a wrestling show and I’d recommend that every TNA fan who can do so, take the trip to the Asylum or the “Impact Zone” once, even if you have to drive a little. It’ll definitely be worth it. Biggest Pops: Jeff Hardy AJ Styles Ron “The Truth” Killings D-Ray 3000 (wtf?) Biggest Heat: Jeff Jarrett Scott D’Amore and Team Canada Kid Kash Funniest chants: You’re a B cup to Scott D’Amore Little Lesnar to one of the jobbers in the Team Canada Xplosion match You’re still short to the taller mini after he made fun of the shorter one

Voice, this is the reason for the lame tribute, according to Meltzer: The tribute to The Sheik was Ultimately lame. Raven wasn't there as he is suffering from pneumonia (for real). They had a big elaborate deal scripted. Instead, they had a scarecrow holding a photo of The Sheik and tried to pretend Raven was that uncreative. They pretended Raven was there and set it all up. Sabu came out to view it. Mickey Doyle, said to be a friend of Sheik, told Sabu to do the right thing. Just a horrible follow-up to what was a strong angle last week. Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted June 24, 2004 Quickie Star Ratings and mini Reviews: AMW vs. NOSAWA/Miyamoto: **1/2 A fast paced and fun match. The crowd was hot and no one looked bad Trinity vs. Desire: * 1/2 It had some good moments, but the rest was just blah brawling. And Vito's run in didn't do anything for me. I mean come on, BIG VITO? Jerry Lynn vs. Scot D'Amore: **1/4 Solid match, and it got hot near the end. But there was to much punchy kicky chokey crap at the begining. Mini Pierroth vs. Mascarita Sagrada: No rating. I don't know shit about the Lucha Libre style, and this was obivously built like a lucha macth (from the two or three I've seen, I could tell) so no rating. Jeff Hardy vs. AJ Styles: * for being incomplete. I was actually mad they non finished this one. I was kinda getting into the match. Most likely do to the fact Jeff HIT HIS SPOTS! This one just never got a chance to get going. Jeff Jarrett vs. Ron "The Truth" Killings: *** Good drama and solid work, but the non finish really killed it. Crowd was hot throughout. Overall: 7/10. Damn non finishes.
