BoboBrazil Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Former NWA champion Ken Shamrock is scheduled to return to NWA:TNA next week, according to well placed sources in the company. Shamrock won the NWA championship at the first NWA:TNA PPV in Nashville, TN in June 2002. He lost the belt to Ron Killings and left the promotion shortly thereafter. In recent months, Shamrock has been training for UFC. He returned to the Octagon last week, defeating Kimo via knockout after a knee strike. TNA announced at their Impact! taping last night that former NBA star Dennis Rodman, who has wrestled on several occasions, would be appearing for the promotion at next week's Impact! taping. pwinsider.com Ken Shamrock ruled last time he was in.
TNABaddboi Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 I wonder what they are going to do with him. Should be interesting to watch.
Sideburnious Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 I like the idea of Shamrock coming in but Rodman? This is turning into WCW in its last years too much
Guest whitemilesdavis Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Shamrock will be a good hire if he'll commit to work full-time.
Guest The Last Free Voice Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 I doubt it'll be full time. He is a great hire, but I bet UFC is his top priority.
Guest MikeSC Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Has he learned to work yet? His WWF stuff was, overall, bad and his TNA stuff was not better. -=Mike
Guest whitemilesdavis Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 While he's not likely to turn in any ***** matches, he's a believable tough-guy. However, if it is just part time, I don't see him helping. His name value isn't that good, and his work isn't that good. With time to develop the character, he could really make a difference.

ONLY time I liked him is when Russo --- yes, praise for Russo --- booked him as the uber-vicious heel who would just beat the shit out of anybody who came near him. -=Mike
Guest TDinDC1112 Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Has he learned to work yet? Doesn't matter.
Guest MikeSC Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Has he learned to work yet? Doesn't matter. Considering that his mic skills won't carry him and he ain't the most charismatic man out there --- I hope he can do SOMETHING. -=Mike
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 Has he learned to work yet? His WWF stuff was, overall, bad and his TNA stuff was not better. -=Mike I agree. He bombed as the NWA Champ for a reason. He's bland and uninteresting. He's also expensive. I always thought that giving the title to Jarrett right away or even giving it to Scott Hall would've been a better choice then Shamrock originally was. Here's hoping he's going to be a job boy for Abyss, D'Lo, Styles or whoever comes out of the PPV as the Champ.

I'm not exactly a huge Shamrock fan or anything, but how exactly did he bomb as NWA champion?
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 He was not over at all. His pops got smaller and smaller to the point where most people were begging for Killings to get the title in week 8. He was just boring and the crowd was cheering the heel when he faced Killings.
syxx2001 Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 I liked his fued with Malice. Malice was cool. God bless his soul.
{''({o..o})''} Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 Call me desensitized, but I totally had forgotten that he had passedaway.

His pops got smaller and smaller to the point where most people were begging for Killings to get the title in week 8. He was just boring and the crowd was cheering the heel when he faced Killings. And then they turned on Killings. Odd fans in those days...

His pops got smaller and smaller to the point where most people were begging for Killings to get the title in week 8. He was just boring and the crowd was cheering the heel when he faced Killings. Um, people wanted Killings to win because it was a good storyline. I don't think it's because Ken Shamrock was bombing. And you're not really basing anything on the pops that the live Nashville Audience gave him then, are you? You know, all the people that got in for free? By that basis, the Insane Clown Posse is the greatest thing in the history of TNA, right?

I've not seen his reign described as anything but a failure. -=Mike
Guest Donners Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 Actually, if we go by pops, I think Chris Rock rates above ICP...
Guest TDinDC1112 Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 I don't think you can call his reign a failure or a success. It was nothing. It never had a chance to get off the ground. They didn't have him do anything. When TNA started, every major wrestling source said they should make him champ. And they did. And then they ran out of money and got rid of him. He was champ for 7 or 8 weeks, and was on the show about 5 times. The promotion and concept of weekly ppv was brand new. Labeling him anything would be wrong in my opinion.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 But you can label him. His pops continued to get smaller from week 1 to week 8 where most other people's stayed the same or got bigger. That would be a failure in my book.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 I want the return of the two greatest athletes of all TIME!! CHEEX & MABEL
Corey_Lazarus Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 The difference is, TD, that the Nashville fans back then PAID to get in. That didn't stop happening until TNA drove away its fans in droves around the same time, oh...a certain booker that worked in Puerto Rico joined the staff.

That didn't stop happening until TNA drove away its fans in droves around the same time, oh...a certain booker that worked in Puerto Rico joined the staff. You're completely wrong. They did not pay to get in. That first taping in Alabama - they gave away 3,000 tickets. Since day 1 in Nashville, that building (or whatever they ran in) has been at least 2/3 papered. And since when did we judge the success or failure of anything in TNA on the pop that crowd gives?
Magus Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 back on subject... if TNA is going back to the "surprise of the week" system, that'd be great. first we had Hardy debut (who has name value, and could be a good character if booked correctly), now Rodman, and then Shamrock. much like Hardy, Shamrock could be something special for TNA if they book him correctly (just so i don't sound like a pompous nerd, booking someone correctly simply means this: play up their strengths and hide their weaknesses. simple as that)
Lil' Bitch Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 What's keeping Shamrock from coming back to WWE?
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 He got his ass handed to him in a UFC fight right before the WWF was going to bring him back.
geniusMoment Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 Which had nothing to do with him going back to WWE. WWE did not give a fuck he lost a UFC fight, they would still market him as a bad ass. Shamrock would not except the schedule WWE wanted him to work. Plus he would have had to restart the angle with his "sister". Okay, I made the last part up.
