Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 5, 2004 So who you think will pick up Casey's open spot? Dunn? Abreu?
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2004 Abreu doesn't sell. Theres your real reason. And a guy who pees on his hands does? Oh well, time to get to work voting in the 32nd man poll.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2004 I think I've racked up a dozen votes so far. Bobby Abreu on the 32nd man ballot. You have your mission folks.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted July 5, 2004 I have to say Mark Texiera > Jason Giambi
Bored 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2004 Texiera isn't that great and Giambi might not play because of his parasite infection. Frank Thomas should take his spot since I don't think he'll win the 32nd man ballot. Hell Scott Hatteberg, Paul Konerko > Giambi as well.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2004 The advantage with Teixeira is that you could play him at third.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2004 I could argue Javy Lopez as being deserving of being a backup at Catcher but I wont. I knew Rodriguez would start and I figured Posada would get the backup but Martinez got it so thats why I won't argue. And you know Matsui will win the 32nd man vote in the AL. Abreu probably should get it in the AL.

Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2004 http://houston.astros.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/h...s_hou&fext=.jsp Beltran an All-Star, sort of Chosen by AL peers, but cannot play for NL By Alyson Footer / MLB.com HOUSTON -- Carlos Beltran is a 2004 All-Star. Sort of. The center fielder was elected by his peers as one of the reserves for the American League team, but he was traded to the Houston Astros the night that the player balloting began. Therefore, it was impossible to switch him over to the National League ballot. Because Beltran -- who finished fourth among AL player voting for the eight available position player spots -- was dealt to a National League team, he is ineligible to play for either All-Star squad. The Commissioner's Office did not think it was fair for Beltran to take away a roster spot from another NL player, so instead, they created a special status for the center fielder. He is recognized by Major League Baseball as an All-Star and he is allowed to participate in all All-Star-related activities, other than the game itself. "It was a joint decision by Major League Baseball and the players association," said Sandy Alderson, MLB's executive vice president of baseball operations. "[beltran] was voted in by the American League players as a member of the American League. He'll be honored and recognized at the All-Star Game, but because he has been traded to the National League, he'll be unable to play. "That's primarily because he was voted in by one group of players and would've been representing an entirely different group of players in a new league." The new rules of All-Star voting, which include players having a say in who makes the team, have only been in effect for the last two All-Star Games, and may be changed when the entitre format is revisited for next year. Under the previous rules, when all reserves were selected by the manager and the Commissioner's office, Beltran would not have been selected to the American League team, Alderson said. Alyson Footer is a reporter for MLB.com. This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs. Allard Baird screwed Beltran hard. So, since he's on the AL All-Star Team, he'll naturally be wearing an Astros jersey. The sound you hear is the sound of Scott Boras screaming. He's expecting 15 million for a guy who hasn't played in an All-Star Game. Expect him to bitch hard
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2004 Does it tell you when you have used up the 25 votes for the email address? Also, want to mention Phillies now 7-0 in my appearances at CBP this year. I don't want to take full credit for it, but I would like my fair share (hell, if Doug Glanville gives a share I want mine.)
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2004 Ok, at this point I am going to assume there are no limits per email as I am pretty certain I would have crossed the 25 threshhold over the last 30 minutes.

2GOLD 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2004 So Jeter starts over Miguel Tejada huh? Well alright, even though he has more RBI, more HRs, better OBP, better slugging and a better batting average than Jeter. I guess the fielding hurt him since he was better in all catergories that involved bats. And Mora doesn't make it? Well, frankly I'm not shocked since Blaylock exploded with the bat and A-Rod was automatic.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted July 5, 2004 barring injuries Blalock and Texiera are going to provide Texas with at least 70-90 homers a season for many years to come. I think Blalock is a future 45 homer guy.

Well, frankly I'm not shocked since Blaylock exploded with the bat and A-Rod was automatic. Jeter is Jeter. Im sure people were voting for him even when he was hitting .150 or whatever. Tejada at least made the team, probably because they had to pick an Oriole to play. Mora being injured for the last 2 weeks is probably the reason why he wasnt on the 32nd man list. Styles 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2004 Oh, so you guys are already talking about it here. Well whatever I started a thread because its important enough to deserve its own topic. Yeah I'm pissed Mora got snubbed too (he's more worthy than RONNIE BELLIARD....jesus what's with the FOUR Indians anyway and 5th (a part time DH) up for the fan vote anyway?). Frank Thomas and Bobby Abreu are the choices most obvious in the fan ballot. In a perfect world Miggy Tejada would be starting but fans are stupid and have heard of Jeter and Nomar and will vote for them. No use complaining, but I would love to take away fan voting and change it to a compromise system where the fans get to vote in 1 player from each team. That way it gets that stip out of the way and then let the players/managers/sports writers/GMs vote on the rest of the team like the HOF, and the manager can decide the starting lineup... Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 5, 2004 The game is designed for the fans. The fans choose Jeter. Live with it.

Belliard was the best choice as back-up second baseman so him making the team had no impact on Mora. BTW Orioles fans Michael Young and Carlos Guillen are having better years than Tejada. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2004 Its hard to fairly judge fan voting when it started merely a month into the season. Most fans don't have a printout of current stats when filling out their ballot, and they choose established players. I have no problems with the fans choosing Jeter, as that's who they want to see. My only problem with fan voting is that Japan influences it more than it should. Does anyone else think too many relievers made the All-Star teams? I think one or two relievers, tops, should make the team.

MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2004 Belliard was the best choice as back-up second baseman so him making the team had no impact on Mora. BTW Orioles fans Michael Young and Carlos Guillen are having better years than Tejada. Tejada - .315 avg 15 HR 69 RBI .360+ OBP (Currently on a 19 game hit streak) Young - .330 avg 11 HR 49 RBI .360+ OBP Guillén - .321 avg 11 HR 57 RBI .380+ OBP Um..not hardly. Maybe the avg/obp mean something but Tejada has got more HR/RBI and is probably one of the hotter players in the league right now.
Bored 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2004 Although I don't have the up-to-date numbers, Young leads the A.L. in win shares through June 25th making him a legit MVP candidate to this point. He also leads all A.L. shortstops in runs created. Guillen on the other hand has a better OBP and SLG than Tejada.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted July 5, 2004 Jesus Fucking Christ. WHAT THE HELL DOES BOBBY ABREU HAVE TO DO TO MAKE AN ALL-STAR TEAM?! 4th in the league in OBP (.444). 10th in the league in slugging percentage (.576). 7th in the league in OPS (1.021). 4th in the league in stolen bases. 7th in the league in runs created. 4th in the league in Win Shares. And the fucks in charge of player selection can't see fit to place him among the 20 best players of the National League? All year we've had the point hammered into us that "this game counts." If the game is so goddamned important, why are inferior players selected? My God, I hope he isn't selected. Just to watch al rip his hair out. And to keep tradition. I'm a big traditionalist. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2004 Abreu doesn't sell. Theres your real reason. And a guy who pees on his hands does? Well, Alou has gained a huge cult following over the last year in Chicago. Not to mention that he was a huge player in keeping the Cubs afloat while Sammy was on the DL. I'm not surprised to see him there with the sort of season he's having.

The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2004 Congrats to the Cubs for sweeping the south siders. Now the Cubs are 3 back and the Astros are 7 back. Still a little too close...and what is the deal with the 41-38 Milwaukee Brewers? We might have to earn those wins. Also: I hope the L.A. Dodgers decide to sweep a series or few, because I really don't want the Barry Bonds and the Giants in October, because that team is somewhere near "wading pool" in terms of roster depth. Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2004 Roy, please shut the hell up. You're about two weeks late with all the bitching about that strike. Your boy Anglesault already drove the call into the ground enough. Blow me. People were discussing bad strike zones and that was the worst recent example I could think of from a game I watched. I don't give a fuck if somebody else freaked out about it when it happened, I wasn't even posting here at the time, and I'm hardly bringing "all that bitching." And I don't even like Anglesault, don't insult me by calling him "my boy." Dickface
