A Guy Who Injects Heroin Into Kids' Eyes Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 I never thought I'd miss Show, but ever since Wrestlemania XIX he's been incredible. Well incredible to what he used to be. Smackdown needs Show back as soon as possible.
Crimson G Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 I hadn't even noticed his absence until now. He could be a part of the remedy to Smackdown's problem.
CanadianChick Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 I have no idea when he's coming back, but a high end heel could be really useful to Smackdown right now. Unless Taker is in fact a full fledged heel, Bradshaw is the only top heel on Smackdown right now.
Gert T Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 If he won't be ready with at least a month before Summerslam, I really say hold off so he can get a good feud going. But then again, with SD! PPV booking, he could show up on Heat and get into a fight backstage with Billy Gunn and have a match later on.
iamsherm Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Forgive my ignorance, as I don't get UPN - and therefore don't watch Smackdown - but will somebody please explain how the Big Show has improved so much?
Lord of The Curry Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Show was SD!s 2003 MVP. Let's not go nuts. This is the same Smackdown that had Chris Beniot and Eddy Guerrero, 'member?
Guest Anglesault Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Show was SD!s 2003 MVP. Let's not go nuts. This is the same Smackdown that had Chris Beniot and Eddy Guerrero, 'member? Benoit was a jobber for three months of the year. Eddie was stuck in a tag team that had run it's course at the beginning of the year. Big Show brought interest into a world title division that was being run into the ground by a brutally bad Angle/Lesnar story and became the uppercard heel that the show so desparately needed. Just because Benoit and Guerrero are on a show doesn't make them an automatic MVP.
Guest Rrrsh Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Big Show was a jobber for half the year. Big Show is ALWAYS a jobber for half the year.
Just call me Dan Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 With all this talk of Big Show coming back and being a desparately needed top heel, I must beg the question: who the hell are all these over top faces you all speak of? Show can quarrel with Eddie, but all that will be is Eddie getting his job back from NM 03. Then what? He already ran his course with Cena. RVD? Yuck.
Guest Anglesault Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Big Show was a jobber for half the year. Except, for the ten or so months that he was at least the number two wrestling heel on the show.
Guest Rrrsh Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 He lost to Taker in an handicap match at WM 19 in the second match of the card. He also lost to Taker at No Way Out in the middle of the card. He squashed a Cruiserweight at Backlash. He only THEN became a prominent heel in May untill July. But, he didnt even MAKE Summerslam, so we got three months of promanence. Show won the US belt in October and became a dead champ who never defended the belt untill he lost it in the opener to Cena at WM 20. MVP? Come on now.
Guest Anglesault Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Show was Smackdown's number two heel in January. And then April through December he was at least the number two heel. If you see otherwise, name two not-Vince heels that were pushed stronger than him for each month. August is the only month that you could say he might have taken a backseat to lesnar and Albert, but I think the Show character was still stronger than the Albert character From about May through the end of the year, he actually was a real strong force. The closest he ever came to "jobber" was Mania.
RavishingRickRudo Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Did I ever believe Big Show was a threat to the title? No. They did what they always do with him, and it wasn't impressive _at all_. The guy didn't produce any worthwhile matches, cut any worthwhile promos, have any worthwhile feuds.
Precious Roy Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Come on, Big Show had a great 03, without a doubt the best year of WWE run. I'd still give the MVP to Eddie, but that's not to discount Show's role in the success of SD! last year. Anyway, good to know I'm not the only one who's really missed his presence, not just in the ring but in promo/backstage shit as well, he's one of the most well-rounded performers they have. But I'm not so sure he'll be a heel when he comes back. It's inevitable that he feuds with Angle, right? I can't see Angle going face after they've worked so hard to put him over as the heel GM and put him in direct opposition of Eddie and Cena, so that leaves Show as the face. I think they're banking on the "welcome back pop" combined with the fans hatred of Angle and the awesomeness of Show taking him out to make Show an instant face, it's not like the fans will really remember or care about Torrie's role in that angle
Guest Anglesault Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Did I ever believe Big Show was a threat to the title? I don't think you can limit his run to just the Summer title push. Sometimes you need a role player to play the second tier heel and occasional main eventer. No. They did what they always do with him, and it wasn't impressive _at all_. The guy didn't produce any worthwhile matches, cut any worthwhile promos, have any worthwhile feuds. I thought both his world title PPV matches were worthwhile, not so much in the quality, but that they improved a stale as shit world title division. The No Mercy match was a pretty good way to get a midcard belt off Eddy without making him look too bad, and would have been a good transition into a Brock feud if the leech didn't show back up. As for feuds, he was able to, at least for me, and for about two months, make that awful Angle/Brock feud and make portions of it watchable. This is all, of course, my opinion, but I think he did a pretty good jump of running with the ball given to him as best he could and can't think of anyone else given a fairly prominant position on the show for such a length of time that did a better job. Eddie and Benoit almost never did anything important. Angle and Lesnar were just unwatchable by July. Taker had a pretty strong year, but missed a lot of time.
AnonymousBroccoli Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Show did an interview with TSN.ca where he said he was looking at an August/September return. Also that he'd lost 30 pounds. http://www.tsn.ca/wrestling/news_story.asp?ID=87297
Guest Repo Man Reborn Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Also that he'd lost 30 pounds. And picked up 50.
ChrisMWaters Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Well, I have a theory on Big Show's return... Since in two weeks, there's going to be a cage match between JBL and Eddie Guerrero for the title, I feel that Guerrero will win the match, then Big Show will bust through the cage, and brutalize Guerrero, setting up a Summerslam Match between the two. But that's just my opinion.
The C Man Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 With the WWE giving JBL the big (or should that be little?) title not only have they crowned the worst champ since Kevin Nash but they've screwed up a potentially great storyline. Evil GM throws everything at Eddie, but Eddie overcomes the obstacles. In a final act of desperation Angle unleashes the Big Show - the man who 'ended his career'. Eddie somehow manages to keep his title. Angle then pulls a SWERVE~! and attacks Eddie himself, leading to Angle ending Eddie's title reign at Wrestlemania. But Show and Angle would have to be kept apart then when they eventually cross paths - no matter if they're both heels - it'll get a good pop. Nice one WWE, you've just killed a great Wrestlemania match, with a great story to back it up.
PLAGIARISM! Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Show really did make the effort to justify his push in 03. I've always been somewhat of a fan, but IMO he wasn't hindering the other guys he was involved with, and had a fine rumble performance to cap it off. Respect.
Just call me Dan Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Show needs more mic time. The guy is brilliant on the stick and could really come off as more threatening if he wasn't scripted to only say "I'm a giant. I'm seven feet tall and 500 pounds."
Guest iamgod410 Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 the thing about show is all the marks believe hes badass. hes like andre the giant when i was a kid. he is fat and horrible tho. the only cure for smackdown is to make billy gunn the main event heel
