As for the "HHH has been putting people over" argument, I can't see how that works. Two fluke wins by Benjamin, both portrayed as such, and the guy isn't even on TV anymore (did he get injured and I wasn't informed? I'm serious).

Yes. He was injured in a match against Garrison Cade and is out until September.

I agree more closely with ****1/4 rating for Orton/Edge. Yes, there were restholds, but they actually were a big part of the storyline of the match, with Orton working on the weakened neck of Edge. This comes into play later both as a setup for the RKO and because of Edge bouncing off the turnbuckles like a pinball in the last 5 minutes. I will take a nicely wrestled match like Orton/Edge with a clean finish, over a big dumb brawl featuring interference by Bischoff and a man who doesn't belong in the ring anymore. This is the best singles match that either guy has had.

You know what I think is great? And this may be just silly, but I'm pretty much impressed by the fact that HHH DIDN'T BLADE! It seems like Trips has always felt the need to blade in a main event PPV match in order to make the match seem more intense and brutal, but tonight's match with Benoit was proof that you don't need a bladejob in order to make the match feel outstanding.

I've always been of the belief that there's too much blading anymore - seems like every PPV has a match you can attempt to measure on the Muta scale anymore. It's actually kinda refreshing to see a PPV with just clean, solid wrestling and not a bloodbath atmosphere as usual.

outstanding use of the word "anymore".

What does it say about the federation itself if Eugene, of all people, was solely responsible for choosing who walked out of Vengeance with the Heavyweight Title?

That we actually got to see the retard responsible for an overbooked finish for a change? ;)

I'm assuming he didn't blade because this match is more 'techincal' with Benoit rather than hate driven with HBK. And with most of his past opponents (Steiner, Nash, ect.), maybe he hoped no one would notice that the match sucked and just remember him bleeding alot.

Whew, I'm glad I now know that. I was thinking he was just being held on Heat or something.

Clearly whoever just said that restholdmania was the best match Edge has ever had did not watch Edge's 5-6 better matches at least with the Smackdown Six.......not to mention SSlam 01...not to mention other "average" matches that didn't put me to sleep.

Jesus, I didn't realize I did that . . . . I hope I don't talk like that, or I've been getting a lot of snickers for the last few years . .

Next time, we'll see how many times I can fit the word "masturbatory" into one sentence . . . .

Eh, maybe not.

I just re-watched Edge/Orton, and it's a very solid match. Once you get past the long chinlock (which, of course was a '25 minute rest-hold' according one person), the match is good. Not **** good, but *** is pretty close.

Right now, Orton's becoming one of my favourite wrestlers because he's got the little things down to a tee. The stuff like biting Edge's fingers while he was trying to escape the chinlock, the actual tightening of the chinlock...the little things. The attentions to the slightest details. He just looks natural out there now. Where-as Batista and Jericho looked awkward throughout their match, Orton seemed to flow through it. And it's the little things like he does that make him even better in my view.

Might be just me, but there you go.

I'll do match ratings for the hell of it:

HeAT: Val Venis vs. Tyson Tomko: DUD Tomko sucks. Maven saves Nidia from a beating, and I'm absolutely clueless until J.R. reminds everyone about their T.E. 1 connection.

Tajiri & Rhyno vs. The Coach & Garrison "Can I be Named Lance?" Cade: *1/2 Decent opener, the crowd wasn't too much into it but was entertaining for the amount of time given.

Chris Jericho vs. Batista: ** Felt a little too methodical, and not in a good way. The finish completely killed whatever they built up in the match.

Eugene & Ric Flair vs. La Resistance: **1/4 Very entertaining first half, but took a nose dive in the last few minutes before Eugene opened a can of whoop as on everyone.

Matt Hardy vs. Kane: **1/2 Felt decent, although both men were a bit sloppy now and then, but overall fine until the SECOND WORST FINISH EVER occured.

Edge vs. Randy Orton: ***1/2 Outside of the long chinlock, the match was very good. Not ****+ good, but on the Orton scale, good. Thank God the crowd was into it, because without it the match probably would've seemed boring. Hot last 5-6 minutes with near falls. Too bad Edge going over was the WORST IDEA EVER.

Molly vs. Victoria: Didn't Watch

Chris Benoit vs. Triple H: ***3/4 Very good match until the last 5 minutes when Over-booked-a-mania ran wild. THE WORST FINISH EVER as Benoit simply rolls Triple H up to win. At least he kicked out of the pedigree earlier in the match.

IMO, it was a good PPV, and really didn't suffer from any bad matches (on the actual PPV). Sure, a few of the finishes might have made people pissed off, but nothing horrible enough to make it suck.
