Guest tangerine Report post Posted July 22, 2004 If Uncle Carl was really smart (oxy moron if there ever was one) he'd resign Aaron Boone. He has made it pretty clear he'd like to sign with the reds again. He works cheap and he is a monster face in cincy. He can play The entire infield, which means he can be our daily 3rd and replace Larkin on his off days and if Larkin does retire, He simply transitions over to short and we move Pena to 3rd. Larson has failed too many times.

King Kamala 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2004 Frank Castillo's starting today against Rodreigo Lopez. Castillo's not great but he's probably a bit safer option then BK Kim.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2004 Also, The Devil Jays aren't very good, and Pat Hentgen doesn't even resemble the guy who "won" ::cough cough hack hack hack:: the Cy Young in 96 Who should have won the award? Hentgen finished second in the league in wins and ERA. Pettitte won 21 games, but only finished eighth in ERA, and appears on no other leaderboard. Hentgen won 20 games for a team that finished 12th in runs scored.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2004 The Orioles are calling up John Maine, who will start on Friday vs the Twins. So both Maine and Cabrera, who pitched here (Delmava Shorebirds, A Ball) are in the Orioles Rotation. Cabrera is pitching well enough (leads all Rookies in most of the major pitching stats, and is a couple IP short of qualifying in the top 5 of ERA for the AL) to possibly get a run at ROY. And Game 1 of the Doubleheader is just getting started..
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted July 22, 2004 Frank Castillo's starting today against Rodreigo Lopez. Castillo's not great but he's probably a bit safer option then BK Kim. Incorrect. Today's starter for Game 1 of the Double Header is the Red Sox best pitching prospect; Abe Alvarez. This should be very interesting.
KingPK 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2004 So when the hell are we getting word on Ortiz's suspension? We're five days removed already, and nothing. I guess we'll hear about it today or tomorrow, and with the appeals process, I guess he'll be able to play at least one (or maybe two) games in the Yankees series. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2004 Alvarez is partially blind? Wow. Oh, 1-0 Orioles. Mora with an RBI double. UPDATE: Tejada 2 Run HR (Ties Ortiz for the RBI lead with 87) 3-0 Orioles
treble 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2004 For some reason, the Yankees/Blue Jays game isn't available on TV here (outside of PPV, which I'm not sure is even available in my area, and I don't have PPV capabilities anyway, so it doesn't matter). SportsNet will sometimes pick up the YES feed for a Yankees afternoon game, but I guess pool is more important (TSN is showing bowling).

C Dubya 04 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2004 A lot of day games going today. Gamecast is in full effect in the office. Phillies took a 2-0 lead on the Marlins in the 3rd. Abreu got a 2 out single to drive in a run, then Bell was walked with the bases loaded for the other.

MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2004 Millar just hit a 2run homer and its now 6-3 Orioles. Top of the 9th, Mora hits a 2 Run HR (2nd of the day) and its now 8-3 Orioles. to the bottom of the 9th!
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2004 The Cubs hit for the homerun cycle, as Ramirez hits the grand slam in the 6th to put the Cubs up 12-2. I was able to see the slam in between WGN's stupid technical difficulties. I should point out that every Cub has scored at least once today except Sammy Sosa. Slump or not, his offensive lows since his return are starting to stand out more and more.
geniusMoment 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2004 Damn, I just get in and see the score to the Reds/Cubs game. Bruiser couldn't you tell your boys to ease up, I am almost on a ledge down here in cincy.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2004 It's all or nothing with the Cubs' offense. This is a team offensively built around the homerun ball. When they don't get it, they usually lose. When they do, you'd better watch out. Case in point, 10 of the Cubs' 12 runs have come from the homerun this afternoon. Encouraging to see the Cubs getting on base to set up something other than solo shots, though.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2004 Jason Schmidt has given up six earned runs through just three innings, including a 3-run shot to Jay freaking Payton. Everything I ever knew or thought to be true has been false. And Greg Maddux throws his second straight complete game. He's starting to look like vintage Maddux as of late. geniusMoment 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2004 Hopefully, this game means the Cubs are back on track. As they are my second favorite team, and since Cincy is not going anywhere this year, I hope they win the wild card and go to the world series to play the red sox. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2004 That's two in a row for the Cubs. They win one tomorrow, it's called a winning streak. It has happened before. Only 9.5 games out of first and 1.5 out of the wildcard! Comeback time!!! Yes, I'm serious...ly delusional but I believe in almost anything. Meanwhile, the O's pound the BoSox and pull back within eight games of them and 17 in back of the Yankees.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted July 22, 2004 Hilarious Nomar cutout held on $70M ransom A life-sized autographed cardboard cutout of Nomar Garciaparra has been stolen from a Somerville packy for the second time in a week - and the thief wants $70 million in ransom. The note - constructed of letters cut from a newspaper - inexplicably said the $70 million should be paid to Garciaparra's wife, soccer star Mia Hamm. The demand was accompanied by Polaroids of the 6-foot replica. ``That is a lot (of money),'' said John Wood, owner of Woody's Liquors on Broadway. ``I don't know if I can come up with that. Ill have to call (Red Sox co-owner) John Henry.'' The Garciaparra cutout was heisted for the first time at the beginning of last week, shortly after being loaned to the store by friend Jamie Love, who bought the trinket at auction for $25, he said. Shortly after the mock Nomar went missing, Wood said they got a call at the store from someone who said, ``We've got Nomar.'' Wood said he threatened to call the cops if they didn't return the cardboard player, and the cutout soon turned up near the store. But Wood said he isn't calling the cops on this theft because he thinks the Red Sox should trade Garciaparra. ``Personally, I don't mind if he doesn't come back because I think he's overrated,'' Wood said. Fuzzy Dunlop 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2004 Carlos Zambrano is suspended 5 games for his actions against the Cardinals. Wait a minute..... wha wha WHAAAAAAAAAAAA???????????/ He hit a guy, what's the big fucking deal?! He wasn't even warned or anything, this is highly unorthodox.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted July 22, 2004 David Ortiz has also been suspended for 5 games and is appealing. Zambrano may not have been warned but his in-game conduct was atrocious. He plunked Edmonds in his first at bat because of past experiences with him, Edmonds homers in his second at bat and Zambrano yells at him the whole time he's going around the base paths, in his third at bat Zambrano strikes him out and shows him up by doing the "no, no, no!" index finger wag of doom, and then in his 4th at bat he plunks him after Rolen homored and then just proceeds to walk off the field after both benches cleared. Basically he was suspended for one start because of his conduct.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2004 David Ortiz has also been suspended for 5 games and is appealing. Five games isn't enough, IMO. Zambrano may not have been warned but his in-game conduct was atrocious. Agreed. He plunked Edmonds in his first at bat because of past experiences with him So you're saying that Zambrano purposely hit Edmonds to load the bases in the first inning of a HUGE game because of past experiences? Please. Zambrano may have a horrible temper and ran the risk of really putting the game out of the team's reach with his 8th inning actions, but there's no way he'd run the risk of fucking over his team like that so early in the game. Five games sounds about right to me. Sounds like a lot, but with starting pitchers, it needs to be at least five games so the pitcher doesn't just sit out a game in which he wouldn't have pitched anyway. Speaking of suspensions, LaTroy Hawkins got a three-game vacation for his uproar on Tuesday. It's slated to begin tomorrow, which is bad news, since they begin a three game series with the Phillies tomorrow; a series in which a good closer is probably going to be needed, as I can't see either team really blowing the other one out.
