MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2004 Borkowski is getting nothing from the home plate umpire. 3-0 Red Sox, and I would argue the 3rd run didn't score before the guy was thrown out at 3rd..

If it is shut down, would they have to play at Comiskey? That'd be pretty funny.

MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2004 Im trying to figure out how they would be able to hide it from the media. They must have bribed the old folks and the father/son not to talk because all I could imagine was them getting on TV and saying that the stadium was falling down and how they were nearly killed. Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted July 23, 2004 how do you fix a stadium in a week? It's been falling apart for 50 frickin' years.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2004 Orioles look like they're going to drop the night game, down 4-0 in the 6th. They haven't been able to do anything offensively vs Wakefield.
Guest tangerine Report post Posted July 23, 2004 Didn't the Yankees go through this once when parts of the upper deck collasped? Or am I thinking of another stadium/city? I think it's time to renovate the ballpark. Not like they did for soilder field but at least fix it up a little and not use toothpate and Spearmint gum like I'm sure the cheap bastards have been doing for the last 50 years. Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2004 It happened in Yankee Stadium when a steel beam collapsed (the stadium was empty at the time) and also at the old Seattle stadium when paneling from the dome started falling off.
Bored 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2004 Yes pieces of the Kingdom roof had fallen while no one was there in 1994 and if the strike didn't happen I believe they were going to have to find another venue to play the rest of the season. I actually had tickets to a Mariners/Blue Jays game (my first chance to see a MLB game outside the Bay Area and in a dome) that summer on a family vacation to Vancouver and Seattle but would've never been able to use them even if the season had continued. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted July 23, 2004 Whats up with that big ass Pedro Bobblehead doll in the Sox dugout? I think it's supposed to symbolize how "outside the box" or something the Red Sox are by having a lifesized bobblehead of that frigging lunatic taking up space in the dugout. Get it? It serves no real purpose, but since it's strange and odd and out of the norm, it's COOL!

Guest Anglesault Report post Posted July 23, 2004 Don Zimmer was cool because he was old and not dead. Old people who remain alive are cool. Old not dead people interacting with a bunch of 30 something baseball players breaks the bank of cool.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2004 Well, lets debate the merits of fake Pedro vs. real Pedro...... Real Pedro is a headhunter, is sometimes reputed to be difficult, and is often terse. Fake Pedro has never thrown at anyone, smiles constantly, and other players enjoy conversing with him. Which would you rather have in the dugout?

the max 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2004 The giant Pedro bobblehead was put in the dugout when he left after his last start before the ASB to go back to the Dominican to help with flood relief efforts, I think. They decided to put it on the bench for whatever reason. Manny appeared to have a conversation with it, but then again....he's Manny. He probably worships Joe Boo or something. Bored 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2004 A's gets swept (if it's possible to be swept in a two game series) by the Fighting Bavasi's. They are an embarassing 4-5 against that pathetic team this year. Since the middle of May the A's 7-20 on the road. They've gone 22-5 at home during the same period of time. It's literally like watching two different teams and I just don't get it. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted July 23, 2004 Bobblehead Pedro tells Manny to cut off Johnny Damon throws. That play made my day. I have Tivo, so when I first saw it, I had to rewind three times to make sure he really did that.

Bored 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2004 In a report yesterday A's ownership said they will put up $100 million for a new stadium, which is about 25% of what will be needed. If they can't get the stadium built (which would be located at the same site as the current stadium) they will sell the team likely to owners who would move the team. Sorta good and bad news. I'm not sure they can get the rest soley from the private sector so they'd probably still have use some tax payer money. Guess it's at least a start.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted July 23, 2004 It appears the D-Lowe for Kevin Millwood swap may not be dead after all. Baseball sources confirmed to the Boston Herald that the Sox have had discussions with the Phillies about a trade that would send Lowe to Philadelphia for Millwood, but money remains an obstacle. Millwood won his fourth straight decision Wednesday night. Bill Lajoie, who is a special assistant to Red Sox GM Theo Epstein, was spotted at the Mets-Phillies series at Shea Stadium over the weekend, fueling speculation that Boston and Philadelphia may be considering a swap of disappointing free agents-to-be ... We found this tidbit from Nick Cafardo in Friday's Boston Globe revealing: "There are enough scouts in the stands to read the tea leaves. Lowe is available now in the right deal." Would Phillies fans be up for a Lowe and Mendoza for Milwood deal? All 3 players are FAs after the season and the Phillies would still save around $3mill. I'd be happy with that deal as a Red Sox fan. From everything I've read it looks like the Red Sox are hoping that the Marlins become sellers, they really want Pavano. So to the Phillies fans on the board...STOP LOSING TO THEM DAMNIT.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2004 Honestly, I think it's going to be a three or four team race in the NL East the rest of the way. If one team happens to break away from the pack, it'll be after the trade deadline. Right now, three games seperate four teams. No way are the Marlins going to become sellers within the next week. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2004 I don't know what the deal is with MLB Extra Innings and Phillies games, but they rarely carry them. Of course, I only complain about this now that I realize that I can't watch the Cubs play tonight, since the game's not on WGN and MLB Extra Innings isn't carrying it, either.
