JN News 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2004 Did anyone else, besides me, mark the fuck out when the "Loose Cannon/Rouge Horsemen" Brian Pillman made cameo appearences in the DVD? I know I sure as hell did.
Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted August 6, 2004 One more random thought: Goddamn Mongo is a frickin moron! "And if you've seen that move before, you got rocks in your head like Heenan's!" It's a tornado ddt you half wit! The tornado ddt was not a common move at all back in the WCW days 95 and before so you can't blame Mongo too much for not knowing the name of it. Really he puts the move over by that statement. If he had actually called that particular move it would've put the focus more on him and not the move itself. Guest whitemilesdavis Report post Posted August 6, 2004 So, is Benoit's DVD better than Hogan and Flair's? It's not quite as good as Flair's though it is on the same level. A little better than Foley's. I haven't got Hogan's.
Guest TigerDriver91 Report post Posted August 6, 2004 I'd say Benoit's DVD is far superior to Foley's.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2004 In terms of variety of promotions and styles it's the best DVD they've put out. Flair's DVD runs second in terms of promotion scope.
Promoter 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2004 In terms of variety of promotions and styles it's the best DVD they've put out. Flair's DVD runs second in terms of promotion scope. That is what I was figuring from the comments here. I guess I'llpick it up if I could find it next week here. Why the hell do we take so long to get these releases is beyond me. Guest Rrrsh Report post Posted September 4, 2004 A couple of things I noticed while watching. Michael Cole is a very good Play-by-Play guy. I dont know how that makes me feel. I was very entertianed by him along with Taz during all three of the Japan matches. He was very focused and creative. I dont know if that was due to giving tribute to Benoit or just the isolated enviroment doing well for him. On the other hand, it sickens me to see what he is currently on SmackDown after watching the DVD. Its obvious that JR's influence has a hand in his performance on SD, but whatever the case, its awful to know how good he is and how bad he performs on SmackDown The Chris Benoit/Bret Hart match wasn't as good as I first remembered. I don't know if this is because I was so wrapped up in the matches point during the orginal airing or if the ora thwt is Hart and Benoit taking over me and not letting me watch the match like I usually would have. The main thing that really made the match worse than I thought was the sloppy transition by Bret Hart. It was like a Video Game. Bret would throw a punch, Benoit would repsond with a chop and Hart would then DDT him from no where. No kick, no strike in respond. Its kind of like watching Flair right now, altho obviously not as bad. Finally, I forgot how boring Booker T really has become. Back in 98, his moveset wasn't tremdously diffrent. Yah, he was a little more flexable and did more High Flying moves, but he was SO motivated back then. He had something to prove. He had fire. Watching him now vs Cena as IC champ is awful. His pace is even slower the Christians, and really put no excitment in anything he does anymore. Sad.
Guest Tjhe CyNick Report post Posted September 4, 2004 Cole was a lot better when he had feedom. Now they feed him a lot of his stuff, and as a result his game has went downhill. But if you go back to like a year or so ago, him and TAzz were far superior to JR and King in terms of commentary.
Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2004 I finally got this dvd last week. I would rank it just under flairs, if only because they had some weird choices of matches. I figured that they could have at least put one of his wwf tryout matches on there (as you see in the main feature they do indeed have the footage) also, the music editing is highly annoying. Most of those wcw themes were stock music anyways, probably would have been cheap to add them you cheap wwe people. and of course editing out jesse (he's a jerk for demanding royalties-do we hear from tony schiavone or heenan or even styles about this?) The regal match isn't too great imo. The terrible video quality doesnt help matters, but its understandable as this was basically an indy show that wcw and wwf guys happened to appear at. yea I did mark out for Pillman's cameo. I remember that staurday night episode so well when benoit was introd. I was really disturbed by the over the edge footage (shocked that they put it on there) as it made me realize again how stupid it was for owen to die for a stupid comedy angle that no one would have missed. And the people in the crowd still goofing off was weird (although I would think that no one in the crowd was told about the death - I still can't believe they didn't stop the show) I thought they would have shown clips of the next nights nitro where benoit as well as roddy piper wore black armbands in tribute. You can tell by Benoit's face that he truly was devasted by this. They kinda ripped us off by advertising benoit/sabu as if it was anb actual match, and it only lasted 40 secs, but it is cool to have that historical moment on there (btw I thought Benoit was given the crippler name after he broke sabus neck, but on the dvd, when he comes out for the match, joey styles refers to him as crippler chris benoit) I wish they had the match where malenko/benoit won the ecw tag titles though, but theres always the future. the japan footage is cool to have, even if the matches are differntly paced then what I am used to. its cool to have a commentary choice, i listened and watched the liger match with benoits commentary, todd grisham is indeed a moron, but for the j cup matches I listened to cole/tazz who were indeed very good (I was rotfl as Tazz made fun of sasuke and talked about how much he didnt like him and coles responses) I gues i ll have to go back and listen to the rest of the commentaries. I finally finished watching all the extras today, angle at rumble and wm xx, to be exact. all in all, it's a very good dvd with an intersting selction of extras, and an excellent main feature. I give it a 8/10 maybe a 9 but the probs mentioned above drag it down (wish I wouldnt have paid 29.95 for it

Toshiaki Koala 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2004 "If you're not a fan of WCW after watching this match, you're dumber than dirt!" Funny, considering who's saying that. This is the first WWE DVD I've purchased, and it's absolutely terrific. When I bought it, I didn't even know the main feature was on there, but it was very involving and really makes you appreciate His contributions to the business. It's worth buying for this alone. I would have liked to see Benoit's match against Austin from Edmonton where He gives Austin ten rolling Germans, but the overall match selection is very good. The commentary with Grisham was annoying because Benoit and Malenko were so busy correcting his mistakes that they didn't get to talk much about wrestling. That guy is quite the putz. The Regal match seemed to be running at super-speed - did anyone else notice this? Did it have something to do with the type of cameras used (I'm ignorant about this stuff)? "That was INDESTRUCTIBLE!" -J.R., after Benoit's diving headbutt off the cage.
Guest bigm350 Report post Posted September 8, 2004 I enjoyed the Benoit-Regal match as it was awesome with all the great chain-wrestling. The only thing I was surprised at about it was how short the match was.
TheBigSwigg 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2004 I was so pissed watching the commentary with Grisham. You could tell how little he knew and cared to know, and I think that's pretty insulting. Especially when compared to Coach's commentary with HHH on "The GAME" DVD, and with Foley on his latest DVD. I was extremely glad to see the Japanese matches, as this is the first non-"garbage" japanese footage I've seen, and I'm loving it. As for the American matches I'm a little disapointed, but Benoit puts on so many good matches, you can't have them all on one DVD. I'd say this is up their with Flair's, and way past Foley's DVD's

That's the match where Regal absolutely destroys his knee. Another great one is their US tournament match from late 96. They also had a sweet short match on one of WCW's lesser programs in late 95/early 96. I would also reccomend Benoit/Malenko vs Regal/Eaton from 0ct 29/95.
