St. Gabe 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2004 I admit, it seems a little early to Belt Orton, but, it certainly would lead to some new feuds, and one that I have wanted to see for some time, HHH vs. Orton. I think, no matter what happens (barring HHH vs. Benoit with HHH going over) at SS, it will get pretty interesting soon. And please GOD turn Edge heel, or cool, or funny or something. His character is frigging horrible. Maybe even cut his hair. =Gabe
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2004 Let's put it this way...would you prefer Orton as champion or Triple H as champion. Cause those are the only two real choices at the moment internally. It's very early, yes. But Orton likely won't beat Benoit clean. HHH likely would. They could do a lot worse than Orton as champion at the moment. He's a heel and getting face pops, which is nearly always a good sign. He's improved drastically in the ring. He's got stories ready with Evolution. It gives Jericho a chance of a title shot. Hell, the title reign could be just what's needed to make him a real star. Then again, I like Orton so I'm slightly biased.
El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2004 Something tells me if Trips was champ, and Orton would win it fron him..there wouldn't be nearly as many complaints.. Face it, folks. Benoit has to lose it sometime.
Vyce 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2004 Dude, if they brought back DX with HBK, HHH, X-Pac and Edge... there is NO WAY they could possibly be heels. They would probably get the loudest pops of anyone on RAW just due to the namesake of the gimmick. At least you know there'd be a huge pop whenever "Are you ready?" hit the TitanTron... You'd be pitting them as rivals to a new generation of coolness by letting Orton maintain his arrogance, Batista maintain his pimp daddy monster role, Benjamin being the confident/cocky guy he was when he jumped from SD to Raw and beat HHH, Jericho being what he is now and Flair being the legend guiding what could on paper look like a new generation of Horsemen. Strangely enough.... that sounds very appealing. Same here, it'd be interesting to say the least. Why? Why do people always want to bring back the past? "They could be the new Horsemen!" "The could be the new DX!" NO. Those gimmicks worked in the past, but they're dead and gone now. Leave it that way. There is no need to bring them back AT ALL, outside of Vince just doing it to pop the ratings for a few weeks. Let's put it this way...would you prefer Orton as champion or Triple H as champion. HHH. One THOUSAND times out of one thousand. Yes, Benoit has to lose the title sometime - but NOT to Orton. If you're going to give it to HIM, then let HHH play the transitional champ. Not Benoit. Dark Age 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2004 I don't see why Benoit needs to lose the blt now. Yes, he does have to lose it eventually. But, is his reign bombing so bad that he needs to lose it at Slam? I don't think so. Everyone is acting like either Triple H or Orton HAS to win the belt. Let Benoit run with it for the rest of the year. Nothing has gone wrong.
EricMM 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2004 Orton is getting there, thats for sure. But I'd give him at least another year to build character. How long did it take HHH to finally get the belt? The Rock? Foley? Benoit? They were all the better for it for the time to establish their character. I think that another proof is if you look at new characters getting the belt (JBL) or especially new wrestlers (Brock) it doesn't always work out. Orton is improving, his entrance pose is super money, but I say let him fued with edge for a while, let him fued with Jericho next, then let him get the belt off someone. And I don't mean short month long fueds, LOOOONG ones. But kill the legend killer gimmick, he doesn't need anymore "rubs" per se, he just needs to get over and work on his skills. In the meantime, it's no wonder SD! is drawing as well as RAW, look at the tag champs

Like it or not, people remember groups and stables of wrestlers. From the Horsemen to NWO to DX to the face pops we see Evolution getting. They are proven to get ratings and heat. I'm not saying that you need to recreate the past and all of the sudden, in 2004 or 2005, have HBK and HHH in the old DX gear doing the same schtick from 1998. That wouldn't work. There is nothing wrong with using the name, realligning HBK and HHH after their three year feud and adding two new elements like Edge and Christian to feud with the group of Batista, Orton, Benjamin, Jericho led by Flair. They wouldn't use the Horsemen name but like Evolution - the similarities would be there. It could be an intriguing feud and set up.
EricMM 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2004 It might work if they used the same name, but different wrestlers using a slightly different gimmick. Or it might not. But it definitely wouldn't work if they resigned Road Dog and X-Pac and pulled up Gunn. Ditto the whole crotch chopping thing. The music will always get a pop. But it'd have to be a fresh gimmick. Guest GreatOne Report post Posted July 26, 2004 To everybody on the nostalgia kick: NWO, Horsemen, even DX in attempt 99475 to get HHH over as a headliner, it's been tried before. None worked. And I see why Vince would be concerned if Smackdown is outdoing RAW, I mean it'd be like if the Dolphins won the AFC East this year.
SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2004 With the difference between Cable and Television Ratings, a 3.4 television equals about a 4.0 cable rating, I believe. Thanks for clearing that up.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2004 The big problem I have with Orton getting the belt is that it will probably end up being some scheme by Triple H(backstage or kayfabe either one) to syphon the belt back to himself through the use of Orton. Either Orton dummies the belt to Triple H, or Triple H turns face, which still results in Triple H winning the belt. I just don't think Orton as champ is the answer RIGHT NOW. Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted July 26, 2004 I was exprised to see that they are probably going to put the title on Orton......and I actually like it. See the thing that people don't realize is that even though Benoit doesn't get the stongest reactions on a show.....people would go fucking apeshit if he lost that title to Orton. He might even become the biggest heel in the company......especially if he does what I expect and if they DO give him the title.......then I imagine that he would keep it until Wrestlemania XXI. I think that even though I like Benoit as champion.......Orton wouldn't be bad.......even though I think they should wait a little longer to put the belt on Randy. Guest M. Harry Smilac Report post Posted July 26, 2004 Orton is not ready. When I see a good non-gimmick match that he's involved with be entertaining and not filled with dozens of useless restholds. Then he's about half ready at most which he isn't even right now. I think the only reason ppl could be happy from this is just because they're so sick of HHH and HBK being the only two contenders which I am as well.Even Jericho who I don't care for is a hell of alot more ready. If only SD could get better again
Guest Franchise Rper 4 Life Report post Posted July 27, 2004 Orton had impressive outtings with Taker when Taker was Undisputed Champion during his inception.. I thought Orton had the moves and style to be the Champ then.. But he'd be wrestling a better champion in Benoit if he's actually going to get the shot.
