MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2004 PSPadvanced is the source for this.. Mentioned at the Tokyo Game Show, Sony has un-officially announced a price of $349.99 for the handheld. This further suggests many previous guesses that the PlayStation Portable would be at least $300 at launch, and more than double the price of the Nintendo DS. No software has yet been announced to launch alongside the system, but the price is likely to have been influenced by the MP3 player and DVD player functionality of the portable system. While this is NOT officially announced by Sony as previously thought (our apologies to Gamespot), rest assure as we will bring you the latest. Stay tuned to Advanced Media for the upcoming expansion, complete coverage of the PlayStation Portable. While not official, there's no way a Portable system selling for $349 will be successful in the US. Also, the person who wrote the article is clueless since the PSP doesn't play DVDs. Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2004 The only good thing I see out of that $400 (come on, taxes people) launch is if the PSP actually has like 3 games with it. Only way I can see this working.

MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2004 Some people were suggesting that buying the PSTwo, the LCD Screen and a battery pack would make a sufficient, semi portable gaming system for about the same price as the PSP. Plus it would play real DVDs, have a bigger screen and there would be plenty of games for it.

Plus it would play real DVDs, have a bigger screen and there would be plenty of games for it. Would the LCD be compatible with the PSTwo, or would they make a separate one? From what I hear, the existing LCD for PSO has a battery pack that will eventually go completely dead, and you can't get any new ones...so that's a problem. Don't know exactly how/if Sony would address that problem with a PSTwo LCD. Also, yes, very good point. Of course, you miss out on the "exclusives" for PSP...which at this point are mostly rehashes of games you can currently get on the PS2.
MrRant 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2004 I'm not spending $349 for a handheld game player/MP3 player. You can get a DS and a iPod for around that price or a tad more.

MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Sony Computer Entertainment today announced that it will, indeed sell the Sony PSP in Japan on December 12 with a price point of 19,800 yen ($185). In close proximity within Nintendo's DS, which launches on December 2nd for 15,000 yen ($140) in Japan, the upcoming release of the Sony PSP will be available in different package bundles. The normal edition of the PSP retail package will include the handheld gaming console itself, a battery pack, and a AC Adapter. Sony is also offering a value pack 5,000 yen more expensive at 24,800 yen ($232). This bundle will additionally include a 32MB Memory Stick Duo, a set of headphones w/ remote control, and a carrying case w/ white hand-strap. Hence, the accessories themselves will also be sold seperately with the 32MB Memory Stick Duo and headphones w/ remote control selling at 2,800 yen each ($26), and the carrying case retailing for 3,500 yen ($33) independently. Since the PSP has retractable battery packs, these much-needed power sources will also be available at 4,800 yen ($45) apiece, whilest the sole AC adapter will be sold for 3,500 yen ($33). Sony Computer Entertainment also clarified the battery life of the PSP, which is to be 4-6 hours for gameplay and 4-5 hours for movies on average. These specs comapare to the Nintendo DS' battery life of 6-10 hours. So..in Japan at least its going to be cheaper than expected, but officially now we know that it only gets 4-6 hours of battery life on games, which is slightly better than the Sega Game Gear (which got no better than 4 hours of battery life) and I used to hate putting batteries in it, seemingly every other day. Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Meh... Same damn difference. I'm amazed that it's going to be so cheap. I was expecting more money costing for the entire system. Battery costs and life expectancy are shitty though.

Downhome 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2005 Ok, so who has a DS? Who will be picking up a PSP? I just bought a DS with Mario 64 DS and Feel the Magic, all complete, from a guy online. I'm going to go trade in some old games for Wario Ware Touched also. Kirby Touched (or whatever it's called) and Pac-Pix just flat out looks awesome!

Agent_Bond34 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2005 Yes, sucks that it's only a demo, but it's unlikely you'll be able to rent DS games so it's nice... Most rental places don't carry them. Major chains don't and sometimes local ones carry them, but those usually have high rental fees too. I know I'm quoting a post from September of last year, but, just wanted to add something to this. My local Blockbuster does rent out GBA and Nintendo DS games. I've seen them many times, when I've gone to rent games at Blockbuster.
