So are the convention protestors......

Recommended Posts

Are there just not that many protestors out there, or are they just being quiet or are they not being covered?

I saw a show last night on an independent media network, that showed the cages the protestors have to be in, and to me it seems like city officials are just asking for trouble, and/or they are trying to make the location so unappealing that no one will want to participate anyway.

There is usually a presence of opposition at both conventions, so I am just wondering if I am just at work/school when the news speaks about them.....!?!

From the bloggers' perspective, they say there are many, many more far left protesters than right wingers. And by far left I mean like, LaRouche.

This is correct. Most of the protestors who are currently in Boston are the REAL hardcore leftists, the crazies (like LaRouche's supporters) or are just plain anarchists who don't care for any of our elected representatives (Republican or Democrat).

The more "mainstream" (if that term even applies) protestors will be in NY for the RNC, because, you know, Repubs = TEH EVIL.

The protestors are pretty well cordoned off and caged in a tiny box.

yeah that is what the show I watched pretty much said, but my question/concern is about the protestors for the RNC when there will presumably be 100x more protestors. I mean what if the "box" fills up before half the people even show up, are they just going to be told to turn around and go home or something? I see it as a potential mess waiting to happen, add to that the fact that putting people in cages usually increases the chance of them acting like animals..... :boxing:

I don't know. The same security concerns will be there in NYC. They will have a locale and once it's filled, then they are protesting without a permit and the like --- which is not allowed.

Somehow, I imagine the protestors, though, will make it on TV for the GOP Convention more.

Is that, perhaps, what NoCalMike is getting at here?

Is he hoping to see all the protesters at the RNC?

He won't have to hope. I can almost see them hitting a split-screen of the convention and the protestors.

It's isn't that I am "hoping to see them" I was just wondering if there would be a lack of coverage of them, much like there was a lack of coverage of the protestors at the DNC. It seems the common theme is that neither party wants to act like there is opposition from everyday people. Not that they need to parade the protestors around like celebrities, but it would be nice to see the media cover the fact that there are a lot of people that don't like either party. :bonk:

Well I for one can't wait to see the blokes at the RNC convention who'll be wearing the big, giant foam Bush & Cheney heads.

There seemed to be a little march on the FleetCenter today, but it was only a few hundred people by the sounds of things, and the police were eyeing them like hawks the whole way. Some yelling, burned flags, no baton whomping, though. Kind of funny to see the Boston stations reporting this in a "hey, someone finally DID something" kind of way.

Actually, I read in the paper today that the police haven't really had to do much this week, and that the protestors are suprised by how courteous they are.

It's kind of sad that they found that "surprising".

It's a rather simple equation really: You engaging in civil protest quietly + not giving the underpaid / overworked cops unnecessary grief = the po-po not beating your ass into the pavement.

That, actually, was nothing compared to the police brutality after the Super Bowl victory by the Patriots. To each their own...

Unlike the DNC convention which had just the super left wing gutter trash (the anarchists/communists/ Ruckus Society types), the GOP convention will have all the normal liberals there as well. They're going to need a much bigger cage, uh I mean Free Speech Rockin' Fun Zone .

There was a small problem today with some wackjobs(one of whom had a fake molotov cocktail), but other than some bomb threats it seems pretty okay

How much will they bitch that their Freedom of Speech is being violated?

well I dunno, being confined to a cage like an animal might bring out the uglier side in people...

Depends on the size of the sticks the cops are carrying.

I went down to North Station Tuesday and saw the Free Speech protest pen. Just my luck, as I get there, the Kansas-based God Hates Fags family was there spewing out hatred and holding up signs like "Demofags" "Boston = Sodom" and "9/11, Gift from God." The people who stayed to heckle these clowns surged towards the stage and the head guy (wearing a cowboy hat and Priest Holmes jersey) yelled out to the cops: "Officer, there's a riot, there's a riot officer!" Gee really? It was like a bad wrestling show. First you call us a bunch of Sodomites, and then adding insult to injury, some of the hate-mongers wore Yankees hats!!! What the hell, they were just asking to start a riot! Seriously though, other than that, everyone seemed well behaved, save for yesterday's semi-melee.

Most of the protesting was being done a half-mile away at the Boston Common. A lot of the protesters boycotted the kennel for obvious reasons. The most noise was yesterday with an anti-war march that went from Copley Square to North Station, resulting in the three or so arrests yesterday.

You haven't heard squat from them in Boston. Somehow, I suspect their bitching might get more play in NYC. They'll proably blame Ashcroft AND Halliburton for it all.

You know, like the left does for every problem in the country.

Well I gotta say, if we see the protestors on any of the media outlets at the RNC after not seeing them at the DNC then Mike might have all the evidence he needs.

I didn't know any protestors were in the city of Boston this week. I thought it was a city of peace, love and a future of freedom (Coming Summer 2005) with the DNC there.

And here I figured the GOP would have hired a security firm, while the Democrats relied on a government agency that sat on it's ass and let protesters in to disrupt everything.

Because, you know, that'd be private enterprise at it's finest and all of that.
