Both events are aired the same weekend (The PRIDE card is on -EUGH- 1 week delay), which should make for some happy-fun. The highlights for me are Belfort/Couture, Liddell/Vern, Diaz/Parisyan, Edwards/Thomson, Fedor/Ogawa, Nog/Sergei, Cro Cop/Alek, Silva/Kondo... shit, that's 8 matches that I really wanna see. EIGHT! Holy Crap! That makes me wanna HUSTLE! (HUSTLE!)... ON THE WITH CARDS~! Styles 0 Report post Posted August 2, 2004 I'm looking forward to every single match on the Pride show, that says something. What's the deal with pairing Ogawa with Fedor though? Are the Japanese THAT delusional? I think the other way would have produced 2 better matches with Nog/Og ground war and Fedor/Khar slugfest. Oh well. UFC should be pretty good too, but like most of their shows I'll need to familiarize myself with some of their undercarders, since they insist on only a couple big matches per show. Couture/Belfort is the match I wanted to see last time and will freak out if another fluke thing happens that prevents it from getting going. I don't know much about Tiger White but I'm assuming Chuck will plow through him. Nick Diaz vs. Karo Parisyan should be fun. Why is Kyle invited back after that crap he pulled with Wes Simms? Simms should at least get a grudge rematch. Otherwise, the rest of the guys I'll have to get to know. And, wait no Georges St. Pierre this time?! Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Has been long overdue for a UFC shot in many people's eyes. After a three fight losing streak against former Superbrawl champion Egan Inoue, and Canada's Stephan Potvin & David Louiseau, he's been on an unbeaten 10-0 tear, the highlight being his Superbrawl 30, 8-Man tournament win (slightly marred by Denis Kang's injury and withdrawal). Joseph "Diesel" Riggs Arizona Combat Sports 18-5 Notable wins: Andy Montana (submission/strikes), Alan Sullivan (submission/armbar), John Renken (KO) Notes: G&P fighter w/ some submission and stand-up skills, though excelling at none. One of many Arizona natives to get something of a bloated record in the local RITC shows (the mostnotable being Homer "Rock" Moore), he's amongst the best Arizona has to offer, but like many of his statesmen, has failed to break through with wins over fighters on the next echelon, including Rodney Faverus, Wesley Correira, & Alex Steibling. However, it should be that he formerly fought at 205lbs, and many of his losses have been to guys a deal bigger than himself. Has also racked five straight KO wins over lesser comptition since hte beginning of the year. Justin Eilers Miletich Fighting Systems/ Team Extreme 8-2 Notable wins: Jonathan Ivey (submission/strikes), Rocky Batastini (TKO), Vince Lucero (TKO/ shoulder injury) Notes: G&P/ stand-up fighter. Not to knock Eilers or any retards in the UFC head office, but they're REALLY reaching for heavyweight fighters now. Eilers biggest "accomplishment" was a close decision loss to Correira in a fight many thought he won. Aside, from that, wins over mostly out-of-shape and overmatched fighters. David Terrell Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu 4-1 Notable Wins: Osami Shibuya (submission/RNC), Yuki Sasaki (KO), Joey Villasenor (submission/armbar) Notes: Amongst America's best Jiu jitsu stylists, finishing 3rd at ADCC 2003 in the 87kg class, beating Akira Shoji, Fernando Margarida & Ricardo Almeida. Relatiely inactive in MMA for many years, he recently made a comeback in the Pancrase circuit and impressively dispatched long-time gatekeeper Osami Shibuya and KO'ed struggling Grabaka member Yuki Sasaki. You have four of the top five five lightheavyweights, the top two heavyweights, four great middleweights (Kondo is really a middleweight to me), the top two lightweights in the UFC, plus exciting guys throughout the top ten of their divisions like Diaz, Kharitonov, and Cro Cop, and wild cards like White, Emelianenko Alexander, Randelman, and of course Ogawa(HUSTLE! HUSTLE!). These cards are stacked, and most of the fights have meaning to them. Who is the top dog in the UFC at lightweight, can Vitor beat Randy without a fluke or has father time caught up to Couture, does Japan finally have the fighter in Kondo it has been looking for to stop Silva or will Wanderlei continue his path of destruction, will Liddell do to White what he did to Sobral or will he come in sluggish and get dropped hard, how will Cro Cop respond facing Fedor's "little" brother, and of course the conclusion of the heavyweight tournament itself. Will Nog be to crafty for Kharitonov or will Kharitonov follow the Fedor blueprint and maul him, is Fedor really a cyborg sent from the future to destroy all set before him, or will Ogawa be able to HUSTLE his way to if not a victory atleast a respectful showing. Guest NCJ Report post Posted August 6, 2004 Maybe, we will find out at the upcoming lightweight tournament in Atlantic City. Gomi, Hansen, and Pulver are all great, but I wouldn't make them overwhelming favorites against Edrwards, Thompson, or Franca. Honestly depending on the matchups I would probably pick the UFC guys. Edwards has a more well rounded stand up game than Pulver, I like Thompson over Hansen in a great fight, and Franca versus Gomi would be a classic. Don't forget and don't forget about Matt Serra. Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2004 Franca actually signed to fight in Shooto against Hansen(though had to pull out due to pasport problems, IIRC), so you can chalk him up for them as well. Also, Pulver fights at 143lbs. now, so him as a LW doesn't mean as much anymore. And in the Atlantic city tourney, UFC's only real representative is Edwards. Also, even including the UFC's best (and seemingly only regular) LW's in Thompson, Yves & Serra, the overall quantity AND qaulity of Shooto's LW division is much higher. Both Thompson & Edwards' biggest wins have been close JD victories over Hermes (Edwards' could've VERY easily gone the other way), with most of their other wins coming over smaller fry. As for Serra, he's had mixed success, beating Yves & some 143 pounders, but losing to Din & Penn. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I'm thinking there were a race of men in what-is-now-known-as Siberia who were stronger and smarter than "regular" homo sapiens and ungodly good at fighting. When the Ice Age happened, they were frozen and most of them died. However, Fedor -much like Cro and Frozen Caveman Lawyer and, of course, Encino Man- was able to survive and was thawed out in the mid-80's by ambitious Russian scientists. The scientists turned him over to the government who soon discovered Fedors super-human abilities and trained him in their deadliest art - SAMBO. He took a liking to boxing as well and began developing his own style of poundage. When the Cold War was over and the Soviet Union dissolved, Fedor had to find a place in the world. He got married, had a kid, and for a while he lived a normal life. But his nature compelled him to return to fighting and he wound up in PRIDE alongside others of his kind; Wanderlei Silva, Antonio Rodrigo Noguiera, and Naoya Ogawa. Big loss for the UFC, because I agree with you that Franca could have easily been given the decision or a draw in either of those fights that he lost. As far as Fedor I still believe that he is from the future or an alternate universe. Nothing human past or present could survive the suplex he took from Randelman without being atleast stunned.
