Amazing fact: The Orioles are 8 GB of Boston/Texas for the Wild Card. I know that practically every other team in the AL save Toronto,KC, Detroit and Seattle are also between the Os and them, but the way the Orioles have played both teams, it gives an Os fan a slight glimmer of hope. I suppose they need to get to .500 first (52-57)..

Between Jon Miller going on about how certain guys should be one base further than they are and Joe Morgan complaining about the various players not using their sunglasses, I feel like I'm watching Grumpy Old Men.

And maybe it's just my Cubs' fandom speaking here, but has the homeplate ump been inconsistent tonight or what? I can get used to seeing an odd strikezone used if it's used for bother teams, but Wood isn't getting nearly as many calls on close pitches as the Giants' starter is.

Watch out for Corey Patterson, a shot of the dugout revealed he found some of the reds left over pimp juice, his next at bat should result in a home run. It appeared alou had his hands in something, although I do not think it was pimp juice.

Pena blew another game

Last night, he left the starter (Serrano) in too long

Tonight, he only lets Jaime Cerda pitch for 1/3rd of an inning, then brings in Nate Field and Dennys Reyes and they blow the game.

what's the big difference between Tosca and Toronto and Pena and KC? is one organization more tolerable of bad managing and losing than another?

Heh, it's like that every Sunday, it seems.

Miller goes off on a tangent that leaves you scratching your head, or he butchers a guy's name that he'd been pronouncing right for 8 innings. Morgan rips people for not doing mundane things, and does it in an elitist attitude.

When's Miller's contract up? I'd like to get Dave Strader into the booth.

The acquisition of catcher Paul Lo Duca has allowed colorful Florida manager Jack McKeon to continue his tradition of butchering names. McKeon is calling him "De Luca." McKeon refers to his closer, Armando Benitez, as "Beniquez." Lo Duca, former Marlin Juan Encarnacion and reliever Guillermo Mota went to Florida in a trade with the Dodgers. "Jack never could pronounce Encarnacion. We'll just give him that one," Marlins general manager Larry Beinfest said. "With Mota, I have a lot of confidence Jack will get that one right." Beinfest's name has also been butchered a time or two. During a series against the Phillies late last season, McKeon called him Larry Beinstep.

That was even funnier than the dick jokes.

I think it's pretty typical of the Red Sox of the last two years that they're focussing on his dick. Reports that Manny and Ortiz charged the shower to hug him are unconfirmed.

I can honestly say that the Cubs and Red Sox shouldn't be in the postseason, despite being in first of the WC. I like the idea of the WC, but these two teams were all hype going into 2004 and have underachieved for various reasons. Just let the teams that are actually worthy play in the postseason.

I know that statement goes against my support of the WC, but the Cubs and Sox are two teams that I don't even think have played well enough during the season to warrant a spot in postseason play, regardless of how they got there.

One thing that puzzles me about the Red Sox is they have been playing lousy against lower teams like the Orioles & Devil Rays, and even in this recent series with the Detroit Tigers, last years (almost) answer to the worst record in a season. How can a team lose against below .500 teams and expect success in the playoffs?

A's/Twins game is in the 18th inning. Neither team has scored the last nine innings.

Edit: Jermaine Dye finally breaks it up with an rbi single. Now up to Dotel.

Edit 2: See I just knew the A's had to last out the Twins bullpen to get to Mulholland. Two more runs put the A's up 6-3 in the 18th.

I'm hoping for a A's-Twins playoff matchup. The games between the two teams are some of the best in baseball.

This loss sucks. The Twins spent 9 innings trying to hit a walk-off HR's. Than when stiff Mulholland gives up 3 runs. They're screwed.
