SWF Sunday Night Frost and HOLT report

August 1, 2004

Dallas, Texas at American Airlines Center

Report by Joshuaa Strong of Dallas, TX Smartmarks.com reader

Frost:

- David Cross pinned Chance Silver in 1:31 with the Black Mass.

- The opening video package showcased the history of the Mall Brawl, focusing heavily on highlights from Mall Brawl IV. Afterwards, Kevin Cole conducted an interview with Austin Sly. Sly claimed that He was going to use a victory in the Mall Brawl to propel himself back into the title hunt. When asked about the mystery opponent, he said that it didn’t matter who it was, whether it was Cutthroat or HVT, and that nothing was going to stand between him and his destiny.

- Ebony beat Rob Gilbert by submission in 4:14 with the Loving Embrace. Afterwards, she helped him to his feet, only to kick him in the balls and leave him laying in the ring.

- There was a commercial break during which Mak Francis came down to the ring with a t-shirt gun and fired some t-shirts into the crowd.

- Alan Clark beat the Memphis Eel by submission in 6:22 with the Wrath of Clark.

- The second video package was a spotlight of the USJL Champion Manson, detailing the path he’s taken in his quest to win SWF gold. Ben Hardy interviewed Manson, who spoke about all of the hardship that he had to face, and all of the obstacles that he had to overcome. He talked about the neck injury he sustained in the JL at the hands of Wildchild, and how it almost ended his career. He spoke about the many times that he quit, only to return because he loved wrestling so much. Hardy asked him what it meant to be the USJL Champion, and paused for a second, smiling to himself before telling Ben that winning the USJL Title made all of the hardship that he had to put up with on the way to get where he is worth it, and that he was leaving the AAC the same way that he went in; as the USJL Champion.

- CIA and Xstasy beat Déjà Vu in 7:06 when Xstasy hit Kris with the Soargasm.

- John Duran beat Renegade in 5:43 with the Blunt Force Trauma.

- After the show came back from commercial, there was a third video package that broke down the birth of Revolution Zero, and showed the success that they’ve had as a group. Afterwards, Bobby Riley interviewed Revolution Zero. The interview was dominated by Toxxic, who vowed to make history by becoming the World Heavyweight Champion tonight in Dallas. Riley asked him to comment on the rivalry between him and Tom Flesher, to which Toxxic stated that Flesher’s vices had made him soft, and that he would defeat him with purity of thought and clarity of purpose. Sean Davis managed to worm his way into the conversation as well, claiming that Toxxic wasn’t the only person who was going to bring gold to Revolution Zero. Toxxic closed the interview by claiming that the Revolution had begun, and that after tonight, the SWF would never be the same.

- Danny Williams beat Michael “Spike” Spaster by submission in 11:57. Deathwish escaped from the Saint’s Demise, and put Spike to sleep with the Buffalo Sleeper. Afterwards, a final video package aired, glossing over the card, as Frost went to fade.

Ground Zero:

- Mall Brawl’s kick ass! And Strangler~! I mean, damn, who the hell saw that coming?

- Candace over Van Siclen was, without a doubt, the biggest upset of the night. I mean, yeah, Mike’s kind of a scrub, but he’s still a multi-time titleholder with years of experience! If I were a betting man, Candace definitely would have taken some of my money!

- Alex Zenon came out before the start of the Munich/Ced match and announced that both men had failed to appear for the PPV, and as a result, had been fined and “will be subject to disciplinary action.” They had a substitute match, in which “Hollywood” Spike Jenkins beat Stryke in 6:46 with the Bad Beat after Jet grabbed Stryke’s leg from outside the ring.

- I have to admit it, Manson’s starting to grow on me; I never thought he’d actually make it the WF, and if the JL hadn’t been closed down, he probably wouldn’t have made it. But, he’s really proven himself in the last several weeks. I’m glad that he decided to stick it out; he may finally be starting to realize his potential.

- Man, was I hyped up for the ICTV Title match! Maddix and Johnny D have been at each other’s throats since Wild and Dangerous were taking on the House of Todd. Makes me glad once again that I’m not a betting man; no disrespect intended, but I have to tell you, if you’d have asked me a year ago which two members out of W&D and HoT would emerge to be battling for a major title today, you would again have taken my money. The crowd was off the hook for this match! When Johnny kicked out of the Crash Landon, I was sure that he was going to retain!

- Nothing like seeing Jay Dawg tap out; I’ll never get tired of seeing that! Drazon tried to sneak attack Dace as he was heading towards the back, but Dace spun around quick and knocked him out with a sick elbow to the face!

- Random thought: Soapdish has friends in high places, I’ll tell you what… refereed three high-profile PPV matches in a row, two of them title matches! I’ll bet he gets a FAT bonus check tonight!

- After the Tag Team Title match, there was a brief intermission before the main event. Funyon directed our attention to a skybox, where ELM was sitting! He got a good ovation from the crowd, even though some assholes in the heel section started chanting “La Migra” while everyone else was chanting “E-L-M.”

- What can I say about Toxxic that hasn’t already been said? The guy has Rookie of the Year on lock, and is probably the runaway leader for Wrestler of the Year. Personally, I think he’s a self-righteous prick, but he backed up his big talk in the ring, so you have to give it up for him… Revolution Zero seemed prepared to celebrate in the ring all night long, with Davis and Spike carrying him around the ring on their shoulders while Jet and Marcus Washington kept spraying him with champagne. Finally he got back down on his feet and demanded a microphone, and I have to tell you, he was almost starting to gain some fans here in Dallas… until he opened his mouth. He started off by telling us how we were unworthy to witness his ascension to the to of the SWF, because we were not as pure of mind and deed as he was… he then went into a little diatribe where he basically called Dallas the modern-day Sodom and Gomorra, and pretty much called everyone in the building a bunch of whores and addicts. He said that now that he ruled the SWF, he was going to give the fans around the world an example that they could look up to and model their lives around. By this point, most of the people at ringside were throwing trash into the ring, which only led Toxxic to start taunting them about their lack of civility and class. This went on and on until finally Dace Night came down to the ring, brandishing the WEEDWHACKER~! Unfortunately, Rev-Zero bailed out of the ring before he could cut a few of them open.

You know what these fans are like Grand Slam. Very fickle. I'm touched my face pops are still this strong. But then it's more the fact I'm running against the top heels and they've gotten me over.

Eek!

I swear to God, Mark, I read the show twice, and I somehow managed to completely fail to notice that promo both times!

I guess that'll teach me not to try to read a lot of words when I'm tired... :(

Its cool WC. I wondered why there was no mention of it during the HOLT stuff, but figured maybe they saw me come out to cut a promo and decided it was a good time for a bathroom break. ;)

Well, duh.
