Guest TDinDC1112 Report post Posted August 8, 2004 MKJ on pwinsider just reported that in demand only has live TNA ppv's schduled for 9/1 and 9/8. 9/15, 9/22, and 9/29 are taped shows. Kind of seems like they're going to monthlys then maybe in October or November? I think this is great. I've fealt for 2 years that they never could build to anything. There was no point behind anything. It was just week to week to week to week. No week different than another. You need peeks in wrestling, and I think this is a great step. Plus, a little quick math tells me that they should be able to maybe start making money this way. With a good card, I think it is entirely reasonalbe to get 50,000-75,000 buys for a montly ppv. CubbyBr 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2004 I agree that this is the best way to go. It's the logical next step and I'm glad it's happening. I gotta believe, though, that they're working on a better/longer timeslot for impact to help build the PPV's. I don't think an hour a week at 3:00 P.M. is enough TV time to advertise a monthly PPV for 30 bucks.
Guest TDinDC1112 Report post Posted August 9, 2004 They are going to have to change the way they use Xplosion in my opinion. They need to make it more of a regular TV show. They have very good penetration and great time slots with it in some parts of the country (Empire Sports, Sunshine).
Magus 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2004 Maybe this will mean that Impact will be treated more like RAW, which is what its SUPPOSED to be.
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted August 9, 2004 What if buyrates don't improve at all? Presently, it seems that the PPV audience for TNA is basically the same people ordering week after week. -=Mike
Vyce 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2004 If they do this, two things need to happen. 1. Impact needs to be two hours long. 2. NO MORE FUCKING SQUASHES. EVER AGAIN. It better be completely full of "PPV" quality matches every fucking week.

Their ME scene has been hurt rather badly after JJ's reign of tedium. -=Mike
Guest Paul H. Report post Posted August 9, 2004 Mike..what's up,it's "Tha Realnezz" from TNS sooo what happened to that forum?Bo shut it down or some homo shit?
Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted August 9, 2004 Does this mean now that Impact will actually be watchable? Or will they continue to shovel an hour of crap a week at us?
Guest whitemilesdavis Report post Posted August 9, 2004 This is great news. Though it will probably lose more money for them immediately, I think it is the only way to build the company long term. And, if Impact goes back to being good, hey, I'm happy.
TNABaddboi 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2004 So let the speculation begin.....what's the 1st Sunday PPV ME gonna be and where is it going to be held? I say JJ/Raven and Las Vegas.
Guest whitemilesdavis Report post Posted August 9, 2004 JJ/Hardy - Orlando
TNABaddboi 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2004 I was gonna say JJ/Hardy, but I don't think that feud has the legs to go on until October/November. You may be right about Orlando though, but I hope not.
Guest whitemilesdavis Report post Posted August 9, 2004 I think they would love to let that match linger until October. Chances are Hardy will have lost interest again by then, at which point they'll insert their standard ME guy when no other is available: Truth, AJ, or Raven. Possibly JJ / Russo. But definitely JJ + somebody.
Dark Age 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2004 Russo vs Rhodes for the World Title, in which Jarrett SWERVES everyone and sides with Russo. The next show, Russo SWERVES Jarrett and says he and Dusty were together all along. End of the night, Dusty SWERVES Russo and says he and Jeff have been in cahoots. Next week, Russo beats Dusty and Jeff in a DUNGEON OF DOOM MATCH. After the match, all three SWERVE everyone and announce the nWo is invading. The next week, Russo is fired. Michrome 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2004 I don't see how 50,000 buys is reasonable. They are well below 10,000 buys now according to Meltzer. Just email him asking for a current estimate, he has sources in the cable industry, as do others. It's not as if 7k unique people are buying every week. It's the same people. Unless things improve BIGTIME, they are going to have a hell of a time breaking 20k buys for their first PPV, and it will go down from there. Will I buy it? That all depends on the undercard. God knows I don't want to see JJ-Hardy. However, Styles-Daniels could entice me to buy it, even with the ring which badly hinders singles match quality. Guest TDinDC1112 Report post Posted August 11, 2004 85,000 people bought the Raven-Jarret show. I just think that if they treat it as a big deal once a month, people will buy it. Just my gut feeling.
Guest whitemilesdavis Report post Posted August 11, 2004 85,000 Can someone verify this?
Michrome 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2004 Nobody can verify it, I believe TNA gave the number out? Either way I don't have a hard time believing it, as TNA was still fresh at the time and the match was built up really well. I believe it was the only time they've also legitimately sold over 1000 tickets. Honestly, judging by current trends, I'd guesstimate the first PPV at 20,000 buys if they have Hardy on top. After that, I can't see it going anywhere but down unless the promotion totally changes.
Guest LuckyLopez Report post Posted August 11, 2004 Michrome, to be fair I think a number of changes would pretty much be intrinsic on such a change (or at least someone would hope they were). With a more WWE type of show/PPV format they wouldn't be under quite the same pressure to do as much as they are now and thus would be able to let their more technologically gifted mid and undercarders go with extra time. Right now TNA tries to cover their entire roster and give everyone and every story fair time, only able to give the main event or the occasional special match preferential treatments. Its much like the RAW/Smackdown format but its pretty inferior to what people come to expect from a "Pay Per View." This would theoretically allow them to let Daniels and Styles have an outstanding 15-20 minute match whereas the current format doesn't really. Also, as the first poster said, they are in a real limbo right now as to how to build stories. It theoretically should work if you can surprise or impress everyone every week but that's something of an unrealistic hope. Fleshed out stories, clear conclusions, and some much needed drama would all hopefully be direct results of a new schedule. Of course whether TNA did ANY of these things would have to remain to be seen... but I think its fair to hope that the product they have now would probably not be the same product that they put out in the proposed situation. And TNA clearly has the talent available to produce a stellar card if used correctly... hell, even if used incorrectly abundantly. WCW's best cards were filled with CWs, TV Title feuds, US title feuds and CW tags that were horribly built but given plenty of time to put on matches. Sorry. Ignore me. Just a lurker. They don't really have the star-power in the roster to present a top quality, PPV level card every month that means more than the current weekly ones do. If they had a bi-monthly system to start, like the big two had before they went all overkill around '96, that'd give them two months to build a card and if neccessary build new challengers/feuds. Still not an ideal situation but I'm sure it would be more productive.
Silence 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2004 They should of put the title on Raven when they had the chance. Yeah, and now he seems useless because his ringwork isn't what it was just last year, and because of that, I've been trying to come up with a different username. I know there's a name change topic in the Site Feedback forum, but I'm still trying to think of a new username.

Silence 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2004 It's probably because he's been RVDized. He doesn't care about TNA anymore, except for the check. Maybe so, but he also didn't even have a good match with Styles earlier this year because of the pointless and slow armwork Raven did.

Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted August 11, 2004 Any one who gave his match with Harris **** is fucking retarded. As far as stopping the PPV's go, I think it's really just a wait and see thing. If the monthly thing bombs, they allways could start the weeklies up again. And this is actually kinda good news for me, becasue I was gonna have to quit writeing the RUSH in Oct. anyway. I'm getting a JOB~!
