smh810 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2004 I'm no sure if this topic was done a while ago since I'm relatively new here but I want to know who you guys like among the current Sportscenter crop. Personally, I really enjoy Scott Van Pelt and Matt Winer both of whom are out standing. Van Pelt is the total package (hip, smart, and funny) and Winer is a tremendous straightman who could develop into a play-by-play announcer at some point. Plus he is one of the few who are good at asking questions. Anyway who do you like and why?

smh810 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2004 I put none. If this was who I hate the most, I would vote for Linda the Cunt... BOOOOO..... Linda is also one of my favorites and has been for a long time. She knows her stuff and can probably kick your ass too.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2004 HISSSSSSSS. Linda's a fucking bitch, and I have made about a dozen wishes to the Cancer Fairy to get her off my TV. Oh, if I had to choose an all-time fav., I'd probably go with Steiner or Keith O. And welcome to TSM, btw (I should warn you that there's a group of us that loathe ESPN)... razazteca 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2004 I say none I prefer the NFL Live, Baseball Tonight, Basketball Tonight announcers better. The only good sportscenter is the Old School Charlie or Craigers. If I had to pick it would be either Van Pelt because of his Stephen A. Smith impression or Frasier. Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2004 Scott Van Pelt, because he's one of the few who's actually, you know, funny.
Bored 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2004 The best SportsCenter anchor is currently stuck on ESPN News only and that's Brian Kinney.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2004 I think Scott Van Pelt made a lot of friends when he did his Stephen A. Smith impression on Pardon The Interruption a few weeks ago.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2004 I voted SVP, but he's really just the best of a bad lot. If I could pick someone from the past, it'd be either Olbermann or Kilborn. If it had to be a current ESPN personality, but didn't need to be a SC anchor, I'd pick Buccigross (who's the only current ESPN personality that I don't hate)

smh810 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2004 Kenny Mayne is still technically current, right? I dont know, he's still obviously employed ESPN but he really doesn't do SC much anymore. I voted SVP, but he's really just the best of a bad lot. If I could pick someone from the past, it'd be either Olbermann or Kilborn. If it had to be a current ESPN personality, but didn't need to be a SC anchor, I'd pick Buccigross (who's the only current ESPN personality that I don't hate) Buccigross is a hack that sucks up to Barry Melrose all the time IMO. And no love for Patrick or Eisen when talking about longtime anchors or anchors from the past?

strummer 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2004 The best SportsCenter anchor is currently stuck on ESPN News only and that's Brian Kinney. Kinney is great. He was great on BTN and could cover the ineptitudes of Harold Reynolds. Was he demoted? Why?

nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2004 Buccigross is a hack that sucks up to Barry Melrose all the time IMO. And no love for Patrick or Eisen when talking about longtime anchors or anchors from the past? I can't ever think of a time where it seemed like Buccigross was sucking up to Melrose, to me it more seemed like he's kind of taking the piss out of him more than anything. (in comparison, watching the NFL crew line-up to verbally fellate Berman ... now that is sucking up.). And re: Patrick and Eisen:: Rich Eisen is a full-of-himself prick in real life, and seemed the same way on the air ... and wasn't that skilled in general. Nothing was more painful than trying to stomach the Scott/Eisen pairing trying to cover a hockey highlight. Patrick was Ok when he has a partner to play off of (him and Olbermann worked well together) but now it seems like he'd be happier doing 'real' news (as in non-sports). the max 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2004 I like Dan Patrick, but not so much on Sportscenter. I listen to his show everyday. Buccigross doesn't kiss up to Melrose, the way it's set up is that the talking head host defers to the "EXPERT" in those situations. Since Melrose is an "EXPERT", Buccigross has to defer to him. I dont have a problem with your opinion of Eisen as a broadcaster while I strongly disagree with it. However I have to call you out on this: You are the first person I've ever heard say anything bad about him personally. Every other account of him I've heard says that he is a pro on camera and off and a great guy. How would you know this, No.1 and No.2 what did he do screw an ex-girlfriend or something. To be honest, as long as he didnt hit the girl it wouldnt change my opinion of him.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2004 smh, I know the girl that he's married to, my family has known her family for years, and I met him through her. He just always came across as being very full of himself - which meant that he fit in well with Suzie and her family, they always had the same 'my shit don't stink' attitude, but I digress. It was just painful each time I tried to have a normal conversation with him, to the point that I just stopped trying. I actually no-showed their wedding over my dislike of him, even though I knew that it'd be neat to go to the same wedding as people like Mark Maguire. Maybe he just didn't like me or something like that so didn't want to be too friendly with me, but he just seemed like a jackass every time that we crossed paths. The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2004 Bob Ley and Charley Steiner owned the entire current Sportscenter team on Monday night. I'm going to miss Old School Sportscenter...makes me realize that I should've watched more ESPN in the 90s when it didn't suck.

nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2004 I do have to agree that Sportcentre is better than Sportscenter, but for one reason only: I <3 Jennifer Hedger.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2004 I appear to be the only Stuart Scott fan here. Going by similar trends, an anchor as universally reviled as Stuart Scott must be liked by MrZsasz. So you're in really good company there, you spoony bard. treble 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2004 It's funny, because Hedger was the 'token bitch' on the Lofters reality show a few years back and she springboarded that into a nice role on TSN. The black girl on that show was the weather/entertainment girl (maybe not both, I can't really remember) on an Ottawa TV station for a little bit, but I don't think anyone else has done anything memorable since then.
