Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 Canada's 8-Man Rowing team which was undefeated for the past two years went down in the heats and are now headed to the rep. The US team that beat them set the new World's Best time.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 They have synchronized diving? That's interesting. Makes more sense than synchronized swimming, I think. Word is that Brazilian soccer players are also in the diving competition...

Mole 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 Is anyone else watching the Men's basketball game? They are getting their asses handed to them by Puerto Rico. The score is 46-28 and they are just playing flat basketball.

Bored 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 See NBC's coverage is even worse if your on the west coast. The USA/Puerto Rico game is advertised as being live but that's on the east coast only so we're stuck a three hour delay no matter what and will see ZERO events live...just like every Olympics. Oh and if the U.S. conintues to get blown out by Puerto Rico they might as well pack their bags and go home now. What a disgrace this team is.
treble 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 The worst thing about the baseball game was Vic Rauter and Warren Sawkiw, although Rauter screaming out 'Oh, Stubby!' when Stubby Clapp got a hold of one that went foul was pretty awesome.
KingPK 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 This is like watching a Celtics game from two years ago. Did they add Antoine Walker when no one was looking? This team won't make the medal round; the NBA game and the international game are two completely different animals. Iraq is holding their own against Costa Rica in soccer. 0-0 at the half in a fairly entertaining (for an American who couldn't care less about the sport) game. Here's a good article on Team USA: Team USA built for marketing, not winning This line in particular is telling: The problem, of course, is that USA Basketball is tied closely to the NBA. And marketing is the NBA's top priority: selling jerseys, opening new world markets, spreading David Stern's gospel.
KingPK 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 I love how these NBC announcers are acting: "Well, Brazil went on a 36-0 run yesterday, so why can't the US right now? They can just turn it on at any second." (5 minutes pass, PR's lead grows) "Any time now." (5 minutes later) "Really." They have Greece on Tuesday. That should be fun. Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 see if they had made puerto rico a state this wouldn't even have been an issue They need some damn shooters. They were like 3-25 from downtown, and they can't make free throws either. They should start Iverson, Wade, Jefferson, Odom, and Duncan the next game. Hopefully they can play a little defense in the first three quarters as well.
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 Their defense was mighty weak tonight. They showed an interesting graphic that pointed out that since 92, US's steals have dropped signifigantly. Now were being outstolen!
Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 If only Puerto Rico was a state, then this wouldn't be happening. Meanwhile in the Soccer game.. an Iraqi is stretchered out after recieving a Superkick from a Costa Rican

Bored 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 This is a total indictment on how bad the NBA is right now. A league that is too young, full of one-one-one players, who can't shoot worth a damn. But as pointed out above this team was put together for marketing purposes only with the slections of LeBron and Carmello. U.S. Basketball were fools for not replacing Jason Kidd with a true point guard or replacing Ray Allen with someone who can actually shoot. Maybe this will be a wake up call for American basketball that some real changes need to be made but I doubt it.
