Nintendo has announced that it will release a second volume of its "Classic NES" series. The latest edition will include...

-Dr. Mario

-Metroid

-The Legend of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

-Castlevania

Another solid lineup of classics, which will also be only $19.99. Dr. Mario is set to feature wireless and wired link play for two players, but you'll only need one copy of the game to play, nice.

The four games are set to release on October 25th.

Zelda II?

I guess all of these collections needs to have their version of "Ice Climber"

...Who's shocked Kid Icarus hasn't made it to GBA yet. I'm also shocked that Nintendo is selling these old titles at new game price when they don't warrant it, but hey, it's Nintendo.

20 bucks for a port? I'll pass.

EDIT: Actually is it 20 each or for the whole thing? 20 for the whole set doesn't sound too bad.

It's $20 a game not for a $20 compilation cartridge with all four games on it....

If something alters my mind, I MIGHT get the Castlevania one. Always been a mark for hand-held Castlevania games.

*crosses fingers*

Punch Out, Punch Out, Punch Out...

*reads*

**** YOU NINTENDO!!!

Metriod NES is on Zero Mission already. Unless they put an auto-mapping feature in this they can shove it.

Dr. Mario is on Game Boy already, and Dr. Wario is in WarioWare Inc. However, Dr. Wario is only 1P, so only get the NES Classic version if you have to play 2P.

Zelda II is okay I guess.

Castlevania was cool at the time, but strictly stone age now, due to the crappy control. They should have given us III.

Ghey, ghey, ghey, ghey, ghey, ghey.

What's next? The already-out-in-Japan revival of the original NES Mario Bros.? (Which they did put in all the Mario Advance titles and Superstar Saga for free).

Metroid and Dr. Mario!!!

I use to love Dr. Mario.

Pick up Metroid Zero Mission and Wario Ware Inc.

You get both and two other good games besides for (if you go used) the same price.

Actually Nintendo is selling them at a lower cost, since the average brand new GBA game sells for $30-35 on average.

Famicom Mini Volume 3: The Disk System Super Mario 2 is actually the Lost Levels!

Can I ask a stupid question I probably know the answer to? I didn't click the link, but the Lost Levels were replaced with the... unusual SMB2 that was released?

Too bad the Lost Levels sucked...if anyone didn't know, they are on the Mario All-Stars for SNES.

Basically yes. The Japanese Super Mario 2 (AKA The Lost Levels) was a huge flop in Japan do to it's insane difficulty and Nintendo's American branch were terrified that the game (with it's difficulty and the fact that it was outright identical to SMB1) would be a huge flop. So they had another famicon game (Doki Doki Panic) hacked and turned into a Super Mario Brothers game and released in the States as Super Mario Brothers 2.

I bitchslapped the Lost Levels like they were nothing. Whoever thinks it was hard is such a newbie.

Punchout will not happen becasue Nintendo almost never releases games anymore only int he US Market. All their first party games are just ports and translations of games that have been previously been released / developed in Japan. Punch Out!!! was never popular in Japan. The original Famicom game was only released on a special edition cartridge which was produced in very small numbers, and the SNES sequal was not released there at all. As such, it's doubtful we'll see anymore Punch Out!!! again.

Another more realistic reason for Punch Out not getting re-released:

They might think if they re-release it sans Mike Tyson (do to the fees required to get Tyson's likeness used) that it might not sell as well or even worse, create controversy with people complaining about Tyson's absence which could create negative buzz for the re-release...

So, is it fair to say that the Japanese have some shitty taste in games?

I'd hate to insult Tyson, but he's in a little financial problem. NOW would be the perfect time to get his permission without a really big contract.

Not really, but certain games that are too "Western" don't turn out to be all that popular in Japan. Stuff like Metroid, Contra, etc. often don't fly well over there.

Boxing isn't a major sport over in Japan, I don't think, so Punch Out suffered from it.

I don't buy the Tyson controversy theory, either. Americans have short memories, and if people didn't boycott WMXIV en masse because of Tyson, they wouldn't do the same for a game made long before he was in legal troubles.

At the same time, it really wouldn't take a whole hell of a lot of work to port Punch Out to the GBA if Nintendo felt they should release it. If they felt like putting Tyson in, they could, and if they felt there was a possible issue with him in, they could make Mr. Dream versions too or put a code to switch between the two versions.

You say that as if there wasn't already a version of Punch-Out without Tyson...

Go Mr. Dream!

Its too bad that they release them separate instead of combining them into one cart.
