New Avengers Lineup Announced

Recommended Posts

Giffen/DeMatthies/McGuire (AKA the guys behing the late 80s JLA and the "Formerly Known As Justice League" mini).

A Great Lakes Avengers mini from the FKATJL team would be supremely awesome...

JMS: He's wrecked Spiderman with his obsession to make Spidey a magic character and the current God-Awful Gwen Stacy had twins storyline. Keep him away from the Avengers.

I'm going to show extreme patience and wait for him to explain how these could be the twins of Peter Parker & Gwen Stacy, since both appear to be either adult or in their late teens, and in Marvel comic time the death of Gwen only happened....what? Five years or so ago? Certainly not more than ten.

Spidey has been going about 15 years or so now, as he is about 30 now. Assuming that Gwen died 6-7 years into his career, it has been around 9-10 years max since she died. There is an article about it somewhere on http://www.spideykicksbutt.com , but I can't seem to find it.

I think everyone is jumping to conclusions, thinking they're his actual kids. There was alot missing on that page. And anything the attackers have said so far is either cryptic or could easily mean something else.

I think it's a swerve.

And I liked the expansion of the powers into the Totem storyline. The implications for who it makes Peter are awesome and legendary.

Here's the article that goes into detail on Spidey's age.

I agree that JMS has left a lot of leeway in what he's told us, and he could easily write himself out of it. I'm eagerly awaiting each next issue to find out more clues and see what happens, which is something I haven't done for a long time. I'll wait til the story is over before I pass judgement on it.

And, while the totem arc may have gone on too long and not been the best story, the title is still the best it's been in years. JMS is really nailing the characterization of Pete and MJ, and Aunt May has finally become interesing again, instead of a plot device who's only job is to act worried and be sick. I'll take the Totem arc over the first 2 years of the reboot any day.

Getting back to the original subject, how will the Young Avengers book be related to the New Avengers? Will it be a "New X-men" type of book?

From the various message boards, it seems that it will be a new group who are honouring the Avengers by forming a group called 'Young Avengers' and being super hero's. The 'Young Avengers' will be teenagerss, but Marvel keeps insisting it's nothing like we've ever seen and that it's not a Teen Titans rip-off.

This is all speculation though, as Marvel is being very tight lipped about the project, and the writer only vaguely alluded to be what it's about.

The writer has worked on the O.C and Sex in the City before.

Since Bendis' Avengers is all but dead on arrival, who do you think will next get the task of making the Avengers cool?

Busiek. Again.

Along with George Perez.

Greatest Creative Team Ever.

Stern/Buscema/Palmer from the mid-80s.

Thomas/Buscema and Thomas/Neal Adams in the 70s.

Y2Jerk, those are great creative teams, no doubt. I just happen to think the Busiek/Perez run gave the fans exactly what they craved for: Terrific stories, the best lineup, great sub-plots, awesome art, badass villains. They basically saved the Avengers from the mediocrity of the mid-to late 90s.

I don't know what you're talking about. Liefeld's run had all of that, except for the terrific stories, great sub-plots, badass villains and awesome art...

...oh wait, nevermind.

Did it seem to you guys that Wanda was conspiciously absent from all the action?

November sees the release of "New Avengers," but also sees the entire Avengers line relaunched with new creators (such as Ed Brubaker, who spoke with CBR about "Captain America") and new #1 issues, which some feel is calculated and adds to the "Crass commercialism" of the "Disassembled" storyline.

I give it two years before Marvel scraps the idea and goes back to the original numbering.

Heh, 2/5 of the "Lethal Foes" of Spider-Man are on that team... Can Hydro-Man, Shocker and Boomerang be far behind?

Only if we are lucky. But Busiek is writing, to I'm not worried.
