It's gotta be disconcerting for Raw that their last two title changes (one of them having been hyped for months) can't even crack 4.2 or 4.3 which is especially telling considering that they both come on the heels of the two biggest shows of the year.

razazteca Posted August 18, 2004 Report Posted August 18, 2004 If the next 2 weeks of Raw does not go above the normal 3.5-3.7 then WWE needs to hotshot the title back to HHH faster than expect? Can a show focused purely on soap operah storyline push the ratings up next week? Will the goth chicks and conformist watch the Kane & Lita wedding, will the middle school children tune in to see divas get juggy wit it? Tune in next week to find out! I bet the excuse for the ratings this week would be the Olympics or that people prefer to watch a preseason game on ESPN.

Maybe all the little kids who like wrestling weren't allowed to stay up to watch it? It seems like the rating is usually 90% the same fans (probably the ones who never or rarely miss a show) and the rest are channel surfers or people who go "Wait, what did they advertise? Oh well, I'll try and catch it".

Ratings tend to do better in the fall and winter since people are stuck inside due to the cold weather. Don't forget the Rumble/Mania corridor will always do the best business just because...

Guest Super Pissed Smark Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 Well, looking at the ratings chart BHK supplied, in July of 2000 they did 6.0, 6.2, 6.2 and 6.4, followed by an Olympic August of 6.3, 5.9, 6.2 and 4.9, then a September of 4.2, 5.8, 5.7 and 5.4. I don't remember exactly but I think the 4.9 at the end of August and the 4.2 at the start of September might have been because of pre-emptions on USA for U.S. Open Tennis or that damn dog show they used to run. The 5.4 at the end of September was the switch over to TNN (back when they had Pop!, the silly bastards), if I recall correctly. So, back when the product was good the Olympics didn't seem to do any damage, with the NFL as the only thing that really made a dent to regularly scheduled shows. This is borne out looking at the Aug to Sept drops in ensuing years. In 2003 August RAW posted two 4.0's, a 3.9, a 4.2 and a whopping 4.3 on September the 1st. After MNF started up September saw drops to 3.6, 3.7, 3.6 and 3.4. That's a drop of roughly .4-.5 due to football. If it isn't the Olympics draining the ratings now, then we're likely to see RAW drop into the 2's for the first time in consecutive weeks since October of 1997. Spectacular work, Vince. If you can't tell, I was smiling while typing that.

I don't care if Raw does a 2.0 one week, if it averages a 3.5 or above over a 6 week span, that 2.0 was a blip. 2) The ratings reflect the product. Not the fact that football was on, not the fact that the olympics are going on, not the fact that there was a finale of reality show X on. they reflect the qwuality of the product. period. If you put on an excellent product, they will come.

Nitro Ratings April 8th, there was no Nitro. May 6th, there was a Nitro and it got a 1.9. And it wasn't a Raw after a PPV, so I have no idea why it was so high. July 21st, Nitro was on Tuesday and got a 2.6. So does anyone know why Raw killed Nitro on May 6th 1996?

It was definitely in May of that year. Was that it? Seems incredible to think RAW won that night at all, let alone by such a big margin.

This won't be popular around here, but ULTIMATE WARRIOR made the ratings double when he returned. If some want to doubt this look at the ratings after he was sent packing.

It does seem odd that Nitro did three weeks of a 2.1, 1.9 and 2.3 at the end of April/start of May 1996, when the surrounding weeks are high 2's/some threes. Did Nitro sometimes switch to 7pm on Mondays when the NBA playoffs started up? That might be it.
