Throw The Jew Down The Well

Over here in the UK we got a two part series going on called Borats Television Programme. Its basically all the Borat/Bruno clips from Da Ali G Show currently being shown in the USA fit into two 45 minute episodes. Don't know why they cut out all the Ali stuff, but the character is way stale over here so it doesn't bother me. Anyway, the show was hilarious. From the classic wineglass scene to Bruno and the wrestlers, it was one of the funniest things ive seen in a long time.

And then, of course, there was the Jew song. If you haven't seen it yet, you can download it from this site: www.throwthejewdownthewell.com

Has anyone else been watching this show? Thoughts etc?

it's was hilarious because at first the crowd was split 50/50....half of them happily singing along, the other half with the "did he just say that?" look on his face, but about halfway through the song, the rest of them kind of say "aww what the hell" and start singing along too....HILARIOUS.

I personally prefer Borat going to door-to-door with voting -- "Can I shit in your house?"

Man, I love Da Ali G show.

I don't know how I managed to miss the whole first season of this show. The commercials really didn't do a good job of advertising the show. I've been hearing about it a ton this season so I've been watching every episode. I'm not sure what changed between seasons.

This thread inspired me to finally check out Da Ali G Show. So last night after I saw this thread, I went and downloaded, and watched, every episode from the first season. I started watching the shows, and just couldn't stop. I must own the DVD set now.

At about 2AM I was sitting here at my computer just going insane, laughing my ass off.

I obviously had heard of the show before, but I had no idea that it's actually what it is.

I figured Ali was stale as hell in the UK because when even the QueenMum knows who you are, it's kind of hard to pull off pranks on people. But the amount of US citizenry who seem to really think this is some kind of program for urban youth are astounding. I wonder if they'll catch on this year.

"So why can't you work with the terrorist? You can say 'okay, we have this empty building that we don't need anymore, and you can attack it tomorrow aiii?'"

Also like Borat campaigning with that Republican. "My friend here is a good man. He is strong, he will crush his enemies. He is... Powerful, like Stalin. You will vote for him, yes?"

Channel 4 today dismissed criticism of the comedian Sacha Baron Cohen after viewers complained that his show was anti-semitic.

Around a dozen viewers contacted Channel 4 and TV watchdog Ofcom after a sketch on Friday's show, Borat's Television Programme, in which the famously bigoted Kazakh character Borat sings a song called "Throw the Jew Down the Well".

The chorus - "Throw the Jew down the well/So my country can be free /You must grab him by the horns/ Then we have a big party" - had drinkers in the bar joining in and dancing.

A spokeswoman for Channel 4 said it has received fewer than 10 complaints over the course of the week since the show was broadcast, while six viewers complained to Ofcom.

"Some people thought there was the potential for racism and were not happy with the lyrics in the song," she added.

"But we're happy with the programme. Many people appreciate his humour and he has a very loyal fan base. It's a satirical show."

US-based pressure group the Anti-Defamation League has already written to Baron Cohen - himself a practising Jew - to complain about the sketch after it was shown in America.

"It's a very fine line between what's offensive and what's supposed to be funny and that line was crossed," Abe Foxman of the League told the Jewish Chronicle.

Baron Cohen uses the Borat character to make outrageous statements that confuse unwitting participants in the show who believe he is for real, providing cringeworthy laughs for the audience.

When the Kazakh embassy in London reacted to Borat's first appearance on British TV in 2003, staff seemed more concerned about Borat's moustache than his portrayal of their country:

"His moustache has nothing in common with the typical Kazakh moustache. He looks more like some Turk or Arab," they said.

"Do you swear on your son's eyes that you will vote for him?"

That line always fucking kills me.
