Which is harder part of A+ exam.....

Recommended Posts

Well I have completed Config I & II, and now I am in the A+ prep class/software class.

To me so far the software part seems to be easier because a lot of it is based on logic and there is a lot of hints in software to make things easier, as to where the hardware exams seem to be all about you cramming as much info on the 100000000 different types of connectors, IO addresses, IRQ interrupts etc......into your brain as possible to remember for a test.

Of course I am sure that the software portion will get harder since I am only 2 days into it.

I passed the first practice exam for the hardware part, so I need to pass one more and then the school gives me a voucher to take the hardware exam for free....

The hardware exam is hard as hell. I took my certification test two years ago and, the stuff they ask for is completely useless to you as a tech. If you are good a memorization it really isnt hard.

As far as the software version of the the test I can't really help you there cuz back in my day it wasnt a part of the test. I agree with you though a software vesion should be much easier...depends on what exactly they test you on though

The A+ certification is pretty much useless anyways anymore...you would probably be better off going for some other certification if you want to make a career out of it.

I thought software was a bit harder, as I breezed through hardware in 10 minutes. Xero, the A+ isn't usless it gets you a dollar more and hour at most places and its the fundamentals(along with Network+) that you need to start the bigger stuff like MCSE.

Thats really odd cuz I had my MSCE prior to ever getting my A+. Then again maybe my order is all outta wack considering I had my CCNA my junior year of highschool ( back in 2000)

What job do you eventually want to have at the end of all this....Are you planning on going into college or straight into the workforce as soon as you graduate?

I dunno it really depends. And the school I am at is a college, btw.....hehehe....MTI College.

We have a job placement service, so it really depends what kind of jobs they are offering at the time, and what kind of base salary plus room to move up in salary and status is being offered at my current education level(upon graduation). I really don't WANT to do anymore school after this, but I guess the job market will ultimately dictate that decision.

Well it's good to know job placement takes place, cuz it is very hard to find a job on your own. It took me two years to find the job im currently at. So hopefully you can find something that you can make a living out of. Not sure what part of the country you live in, but where I am the tech market sucks. I got very lucky when I scored this job, and i'm still underpaid! Hopefully you could find something without having to up and leave.

It's been a few years since I did the A+ test, but I thought the software portion was harder. Not difficult, really, but harder than the hardware portion. I've always been a hardware guy, so that stuff has always come easily for me. Back then, the software part consisted of DOS (which I'd used for years, but not to the degree A+ makes you use it), and Windows 9X (which I'd just started using, after avoiding the plague that was 3.1). I don't know if they still include DOS these days, but they should, since a lot of those old commands are still quite useful today.

DOS has been replaced with the dreaded Command prompt, which is DOS Roided up. Like I previously stated its been four years since my A+, but if they are teaching command line in it now, that will be a hige heads up for kids, if they go to college. I know where I go there is an entire class devoted to windows command line/scripting.
