Best Ninja Game(s): Taking poll nominations

Recommended Posts

Ninjas. They're a pretty obvious and extremely popular character choice in video games. Sometimes they're fighting game characters, a class in an RPG, but most often, you get to kick ass playing as the ninja him/herself in an action game.

So, let's run a little poll here. Any game starring ninjas of any race, gender, national origin apply. They don't have to be necessary 100% ninja-like, though. They must be the main character or one of the main characters--fighting games don't apply.

Remember this is for the *games* themselves, not characters.

There obviously are going to be some I'll miss, but shoot any nominations that come to mind. Depending on the nominations, I may do this tourney style:

Ninja Gaiden (series)

Shinobi (series)

Mystical Ninja/Goemon (series)

Ninja Five-O

Strider (series)

Nightshade

Tenchu (series)

Ninja (the Eidos game...)

I-Ninja

Ninja Warriors (series)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (series)

Ninja Assault.

A tournament of actual ninja characters would be a lot cooler though.

I never considered Strider Hiryu a ninja...but I guess he is? I figured he was more of a soldier with ninja like skills? Not an actual rased and trained in a ninja clan ninja...

Oh well...at any rate, gotta go with Ryu Hyabusa, Ninja Gaiden...damn I loved the original trilogy (haven't played the new one yet)...probably some of the hardest games I've ever played even to this day, on the basis that you usually have a million things coming at you while trying to jump from ledge to ledge type difficulty...

I don't know the names of all the ninja characters... :P

But free free to name, say, the ninjas in Ninja Assault, Tenchu, etc. for a follow-up poll.

Also, we'd include fighting game ninjas in that one--but limit of 5 per game, because I'm not putting every single MK ninja in the tourney. :P

Well, as I said, for this purpose he counts. After all, most video game ninjas don't actually use much or any stealth either. Even Ryu is much more head-on than a true ninja would be.

Ninja Warriors for SNES.

The game looks beautiful (great detail to background and characters) and some of the moves are just savage looking (overhead back breaker and throwing a guy by their feet comes to mind). The music also sets a nice vibe to the game for each level. I wish the creators would have followed up with a sequel to the SNES version since the ending to the game posed the question about whether things would be okay once the cyborgs completed their mission.

Snake Eyes was in the Gi Joe 3rd person shooter that was in arcades. It played the same as Rambo 3 or Cabal.

There were 2 GI Joe games that came out on the NES, one by a company called Taxan and the second one by Capcom...Snake Eyes was in both and I believe Storm Shadow was only in the second one (he wasn't a Joe in the toy/comic world when the first one came out)...basically you're given a choice of about 6 Joes to choose from in each game, each with their specific skills and you had to decide, based on the level you were heading into which one to use...I don't remember who all was in the two games but I do remember Duke, Rock N Roll, Wetsuit, Captain Gridiron, and Roadblock being amongst them...I could never beat the first one, but the second one was cake!
