JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 The WWE uses the rollup as a finish in its matches WAAAAAAAY too much. They LOVE to have heels win with the rollup instead of a finisher. Maybe they think the marks look at it as "well, the good guy lost, but the bad guy got lucky" whereas if the heel wins with his finisher it makes the face look bad or something? I don't really like it. Sure, a rollup can be the perfect finisher some times, (HHH vs. Shelton Benjamin comes to mind) but not ALL the time. I think a big part of establishing a character marks care about is giving them a recognizable finisher. But the "rollup using the tights or feet on the ropes" thing is just done way too much, IMO. Am I the only one who thinks this, or do you think it's not that big of a deal?
Highland 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 It is used too much, and I think it should be used alot more sparingly so it is not so expected anymore. A roll up should be used by an underdog face to beat a seemingly invincible heel when nothing else seems to work, for instance. Get the quick pin and run the fuck away. The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 I used to appreciate a good roll-up from time. Fruit Roll-Ups, too. But I agree that they're using it way too much. Maybe it's just a recent trend and the next couple months will have every heel victory come by raising the shoulder at 2 1/2 on a belly-to-back suplex. Or sooplay. Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 I guess a face's small package is the counter for a heel's roll-up / school boy.
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted August 29, 2004 I want to see it used a finisher, ala the Stunner. Just to hear JR scream "ROLL UP! ROLL UP! ROLL UP!" And to watch Jericho sell it as if he'd been shot. Because you know he'd job to it. You know he would. -=Mike
Cuban Linx 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 I remember a Smackdown show sometime in the last year where covering Velocity and the main show they had something like four or five roll-up finishes to matches in just the one night, there's other ways to do a cheap fluke-type finish besides the roll-up but i guess the people coming up with match endings can't be bothered to be the least bit creative. SinToxic 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 I only want the underdogs to win via roll ups. Something Benoit might consider using soon as his finisher on RAW.

JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 I'm actually surprised they haven't written someone like Funaki to win matches with the small package, and start making "small package" jokes over and over. But I'm sick of the rollup and the WWE should get finishers over instead of rollups.

JJMc 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2004 That's why God made jobber matches. So a wrestler can go over strong without a damn rollup or "hey ref" finish. But I'm way past caring what happens in wrestling, so whatever...
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted August 30, 2004 soooo Steamboat shouldn't have won through a rollup/smallpackage with savage at WM3? or is there a Temporal dislike to the current usage to the Rollups to when it was MORE rampant in the past?
SinToxic 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2004 Maybe only during psychologically long matches shouldn't the roll ups be used, especially when the opponent is one leg lock away from tapping out.
jester 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2004 I don't mind roll-ups, as long as they don't come from out of nowhere. If a wrestler has just taken a hard shot and is slightly stunned, then yeah, I buy he can fall victim to a roll-up. Just suddenly being grabbed and held for the pin without any build annoys the hell out of me.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2004 What's the difference between a roll-up and a small package? Actually, I wouldn't mind it if it comes off as the reversal of the other wrestler's error at the end of a long match. The finisher isn't always appropriate.
