Yeah, these Muslim fundamentalist groups that are sprouting up all over Iraq and claiming links to Al Qaeda need to be stopped which is why French diplomats have gone over to communicate with the group.

Get out of our thread, Euro-hippie

Try level headed. Or less blinkered. I'm certainly no hippie. Nor do I have any particular affinity with Europe - certainly not France in particular. And as for the "our thread" part - you sound like a child. It's a message board - guess what? Other members are going to post in threads! Shock horror! You might disagree with their point of view! How dare they!

Of course, no French journalists would have been in Iraq if it wasn't for the invasion so any "I told you so" thing is irrelevant.

But...but...France OPPOSED this. France WAS THEIR BEST FRIEND --- and those monkeys STILL took hostages.

Obviously, being "friendly" isn't enough for the sub-human monkeys who think taking innocents as hostages is just peachy.

Just carpet bomb the whole lot of them. Blow up that damned mosque that al-Sadr was hiding out in, too --- just for the hell of it.

Yeah, these Muslim fundamentalist groups that are sprouting up all over Iraq and claiming links to Al Qaeda need to be stopped which is why French diplomats have gone over to communicate with the group..who'd have thunk it..communication!

Tell the journalists how well that worked out for them. You'd think openly and visibly opposing the whole deal might keep the French safe --- but banning head scarves was, apparently, an unforgivable sin.

Yeah, negotiate with THOSE thugs. Brilliant.

Did your testicles ever drop?

Talking through the problems! Maybe reaching some kind of compromise!

Yeah, that works WONDERS! BWA HA HA HA HA! As was said earlier, "If we're nice, they'll kill us last" is a horrible policy to take.

preventing the journos from being killed without backing down from disallowing religious dress in school! Can't the French just ignore the hostages and let them be killed like the Americans do? Who do they think they are!?

Of course, negotiating with terrorists only encourages MORE terrorism.

It all boils down to the fact that Iraq, Spain, Bali, Turkey and Russia are now all much less safer places thanks to the inept "War On Terrorism" and illegal invasion of Iraq.

Wow, didn't know the War in Iraq caused the Russian/Chechen War --- which, mind you, has been quite ugly for about a decade now --- to get "bad".

Learn a little history, would ya?

Try level headed.

Is that a euphemism for "Retarded"?

Nor do I have any particular affinity with Europe - certainly not France in particular. And as for the "our thread" part - you sound like a child. It's a message board - guess what? Other members are going to post in threads! Shock horror! You might disagree with their point of view! How dare they

I'd say "dig the sand out of your vagina", but I fear that'd hit too close to home for you.

France wasn't Iraq's best friend and besides...it's not Iraq that has taken these people hostage - it's a fanatical Muslim group IN Iraq. The kind of group that didn't exist, certainly not in Iraq, prior to the bungled invasion.

Way to win over the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people - blow up a sacred Mosque. And people wonder WHY there is resistance within Iraq to the invaders. Let's get it straight shall we - these aren't terrorists fighting in fallujah, Basra etc..they are Iraqi people. It's a resistance to occupation.

They don't have to "give in" to the group - but opening dialogue is certainly a better way to go about things than ignoring them and allowing the guys to be killed.

Yes my testicles have dropped, how that is relevant I don't know. Another personal attack...:sigh:

I'm not refering to the Russia/Chechen problem - i'm refering to the two planes blown out of the sky which has been linked to Al Qeada.

Level headed is not a euphemism for "retarded".

What the hell does "dig the sand out of your vagina" mean?

Another insult....another :sigh:

France wasn't Iraq's best friend and besides...

That, my friend, is pure and utter bullshit. The personal friendship between Chirac and Hussein isn't exactly something that is even up for debate. They were friends since the 1970's.

it's not Iraq that has taken these people hostage - it's a fanatical Muslim group IN Iraq. The kind of group that didn't exist, certainly not in Iraq, prior to the bungled invasion.

Hey, there was no genocide in the Balkans when the Soviets were there, equally oppressing both groups. I suppose it was better under Soviet oppression.

Way to win over the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people - blow up a sacred Mosque.

If they're going to desecrate it by launching military action from it --- it is, ultimately, their fault.

And people wonder WHY there is resistance within Iraq to the invaders.

Actually, the resistance is statistically miniscule.

Let's get it straight shall we - these aren't terrorists fighting in fallujah, Basra etc..they are Iraqi people. It's a resistance to occupation.

Fighting against their own government (remember, Iraq is in control --- I doubt we would've gone for the al-Sadr offer this time around) is NOT terrorism?

They don't have to "give in" to the group - but opening dialogue is certainly a better way to go about things than ignoring them and allowing the guys to be killed.

Lord knows negotiation ALWAYS works with terrorists. NO chance of that backfiring.

I'm not refering to the Russia/Chechen problem - i'm refering to the two planes blown out of the sky which has been linked to Al Qeada.

And this has actually been proven.

And odd that Al Qaeda would attack Russia --- considering how much Russia opposed this move. If they'll attack regardless --- why the hell should ANYBODY not join in on the bitchslapping?

Level headed is not a euphemism for "retarded".

What the hell does "dig the sand out of your vagina" mean?

By that rationale, Rumsfeld and Saddam are 'best friends' ! The Bush family and the Bin Ladens are too.. Wait....just because once upon a time there was a connection doesn't mean they were bosom buddies. As we're talking about western leaders being friendly with dictators how about Bush and that King of Saudi Arabia guy?

The resistance are NOT fighting against their own government. The Iraqi president isn't elected - he's hand picked by the US with ties to the CIA. In other words, a puppet. Free elections might do something to dispell the resistance but we can't have that can we? Someone we dont want might become leader of Iraq..

How can negotiating backfire? Looks like they might be killed anyway those two hostages so at least the French might as well try to talk them out of it.

By that rationale, Rumsfeld and Saddam are 'best friends' !

Well, in your really BAD attempt at thought, it might be. For thinking people, no, not really.

Chirac and Hussein were friends. Good friends. It was many things --- a secret was not one of them.

The Bush family and the Bin Ladens are too.. Wait....just because once upon a time there was a connection doesn't mean they were bosom buddies.

This goes FAR beyond connections. Jesus, do a little research. You're already a running joke and cliche of the week. Try and redeem yourself a little.

As we're talking about western leaders being friendly with dictators how about Bush and that King of Saudi Arabia guy?

And the concept of being nice to somebody who CAN fuck up our economy royally is lost on good ol' INXS.

The resistance are NOT fighting against their own government.

Tell that to their government.

The Iraqi president isn't elected - he's hand picked by the US with ties to the CIA.

Care to mention his polling numbers in Iraq?

In other words, a puppet. Free elections might do something to dispell the resistance but we can't have that can we? Someone we dont want might become leader of Iraq..

If you think we're thrilled with Allawi giving Al-Sistani so much power, you're insane.

How can negotiating backfire?

"Gee, Abdul, if we take hostages and they return a few prisoners for us letting them go --- what happens when we take more hostages?"

Believe it or not, the US' policy of non-negotiation isn't borne out of cruelty.

Looks like they might be killed anyway those two hostages so at least the French might as well try to talk them out of it.

Maybe they should remind them that they always supported them.

The Post Heard 'Round The World:

Scoring:

Give INXS credit, the thread was turning into a conservative back-slapping and nobody saw what was coming. Slayer is reeling and the best he can come back with is a sarcastic hippie comment. MikeSC weighs in by questioning the size of INXS' testes, but it loses some punch because it's hidden amongst a foreign policy rant. He may have overextended himself by attacking people who put innocents in danger and then suggesting a mass carpet bombing. INXS doesn't notice this misstep now, but he may capitalize on it later.

INXS: 5

Round 2:

Try level headed. Or less blinkered. I'm certainly no hippie. Nor do I have any particular affinity with Europe - certainly not France in particular. Scoring:

Good to see that both sides are starting to scrap with each other. INXS is taking a risk when he assaults MikeSC directly, questioning who gets to participate in the discussion. MikeSC won't let that slide, though, and pounces on it. Supported by kkktookmybabyaway and Slayer, they combine to gain back some ground against INXS.

INXS: 6

TSM: 3

Round 3:

France wasn't Iraq's best friend and besides...it's not Iraq that has taken these people hostage - it's a fanatical Muslim group IN Iraq. The kind of group that didn't exist, certainly not in Iraq, prior to the bungled invasion.

Scoring:

Pretty lame performance by both fighters. A small jab by Slapnuts! does little damage, but may be a sign of far greater firepower to come. MikeSC continues to fundamentally disagree with INXS in how the situation should be handled, but keeps it mostly civil. Overall, no damage done.

INXS: 7

TSM: 3

Round 4:

By that rationale, Rumsfeld and Saddam are 'best friends' ! The Bush family and the Bin Ladens are too.. Wait....just because once upon a time there was a connection doesn't mean they were bosom buddies. As we're talking about western leaders being friendly with dictators how about Bush and that King of Saudi Arabia guy?

-=Mike

Scoring:

INXS seems to be holding back. He makes the usual conspiracy in regards to Bush and Iraq but he clearly isn't giving it his all. Is he wearing down already? MikeSC gets a kidney shot in but it's diluted with sane commentary, perhaps meant to distract INXS and soften him up for a later round.

INXS: 7

TSM: 4

Round 5:

I had arguements posted and a personal attack..you know..you're not worth it anymore. You're too far gone in the head. Whatever you say ok?

...Your arguments suck, BTW...

In case anyone cares' date=' this was the first time I've actually seen someone, seriously, without a hint of sarcasm or humor, suggest that we "talk" with the homicidal, mentally unhinged radicals.[/quote']

Scoring:

Phew! A much more lively round than we've seen lately. A shot from a new entrant, Anglesault, strikes a glancing blow, then he tags in MikeSC who wallops INXS big time. Not only does Mike call INXS out for basically saying that we should negotiate with terrorists, but he does so in style. A wicked left "genital crusher" hits INXS on the chin and he appears stunned. The post-sig comment attempts to go for the knockout, but misuses the ellipsis by putting it at the beginning AND end. Close one, but no connection.

INXS: 7

TSM: 6

Round 6:

Wow..look at that..the islamic group holding the journos have handed them over to a resistance group ready for release... And the French still went ahead with their intention to ban religious stuff in schools.

Michael Hutchence's ghost called and wants you to stop defiling his band's name

Scoring:

What the hell? Both fighters appear to be reeling. Slayer makes a cliche'd comment that has no relevance on the discussion. Fortunately for The SmartMarks, INXS seems to be equally out of it. Negative points to both for this lame display.

INXS: 6

TSM: 5

Round 7:

Slayer called and they want you to stop defiling their bands name! Toodlepip!

I do my namesake proud

You bring nothing but shame to the fine men who brought us "Devil Inside", "Disappear" and "What You Need"

Scoring:

INXS comes back with a quick jab that loses effectiveness with the consistant use of the "Toodlepip!" which has long worn out it's welcome. Slayer expounds on his arguement, and says that INXS is an embarassment to his own identity. Ouch!

INXS: 6

TSM: 6

How do we close the door? This fight moves to another battlefield, namely KKK's kittykiller thread:

Round 8:

Oh man' date=' you guys even used this thread to have a go at me! Suitable punishment....I dunno...certainly constant psychiatric evaluation and perhaps some time in a young offenders institute?[/quote']

I'm not buying the act anymore' date=' this guy has got to be a troll that knows exactly why he's doing. I can't bring myself to believe that any one person can match every stereotype we have around here so perfectly...can he?[/quote']

Scoring:

Another lackluster round on both sides. Slapnuts! makes his return here but it's not as triumphant as it could be, he seems to be more confused than ready to fight. No points.

INXS: 6

TSM: 6

Round 9:

What are you on about? You don't think that some time im a young persons jail/home is suitable punishment? you dont think we should evaluate the mental state of a kid that likes to kill kittens?

Fuck it, get the torches boys..lets burn the little critter!

BWAHAHAHAH this is too good to be true. Remember folks' date=' HUGS damnit. She didn't get enough HUGS![/quote']

And the resident liberal cliche speaks.

-=Mike

This girl's parents need to be flogged.

As does INXS, evidently.

Gotta be a troll. No way in hell can INXS not be.

Oh, and punishment: 40 lashes. Let's go all old school.

--Ryan

Here's something you need to know about me: I don't give two shits what the human race does to each other' date=' but torture a kitty and I'll come at you with both barrels smoking. I have three myself...[/quote']

Scoring:

Similar to round 4, a flurry of blows rain down on INXS. Multiple holes in INXS' defenses are located and exploited in military fashion, good lord these men are professionals. MikeSC plays the cliche card, which is offset with INXS' witchburning comment, causing a stalemate. Slapnuts! delivers more of his now-trademark wild laughter and sarcastic commetary. Tyler seems to sympathize, but I think he's secretly holding a big stick. Wildbomb takes the round handidly with the best opening shot in the fight, a trolling accusation and a suggestion of violent punishment. Stunning! He also points out that INXS is really taking it on the chin, and perhaps suggest he throw the fight. But if I know INXS (and sadly, we all do) he won't give up so easily.

INXS:6

TSM: 11

Round 10:

Oh come off it..i am NOT trolling. Look at this properly - it's an 11 year old child. ELEVEN. I'm all for people getting punished for their crimes and if it was an adult doing this awful thing then yeah' date=' beat him to within an inch of his life, let him heal up and do it again. As it stands I think that time away from her family and friends along with a strict environment that a juveniule home provides is enough punishment. The psychiatric evaluation thing can be for after she has been punished..I mean we don't just punish her then forget about her allowing her to grow up to do that sort of stuff to humans do we?[/quote']

Depends on the human she does it to.

But to a kitty -- no excuse...

"NO X-BOX FOR YOU' date=' BITCH! YEAH, SUCK IT!"[/quote']

Here's something to chew on.

Most adult sociopaths (I think the figure is about 90%) tortured and killed animals during their preteen and teen years. This kind of behavior acsolutely needs to be punished and stopped before it becomes a bigger problem.

Scoring:

INXS manages to land some moderately damaging shots and does well to recover some ground. Retarded, yes, but effective. But after that knockout punch from Dr. Tom, someone in INXS' corner please throw in the towel! He's taking a walloping in the ring, and it's definitely not for those with a weak constitution. This thing is really starting to pick up the pace and even if INXS could manage to make a well-typed, non-insulting, factual rebuttal he would still not be heard. These people want murder!

It's over! It's over! SmartMarks wins by a landslide! ...Oh my god, that man has folded his chair and is using it to... Oh my god, this is insane! Get out of the..

All the French hate makes me laugh. There would be no United States of America if they hadn't helped us win the Revolutionary War. There would be no statue of liberty. And they'd all be speaking German now if we hadn't help end WW2, blah blah blah. Do you think history really matters that much today? Arguing that we owe them something, or vice versa, based upon what happened decades ago is a WEAK argument. What they did 225+ years ago should make me simply forgive them for every petty-ass power play they've attempted to pull on us in the past few years?

They've never done anything to deserve the hate they're getting.

What?

They went out of their way to negate every action that we attempted to take through the U.N. (the only place they really still have any semblance of power) regarding Iraq, even going so far as actively campaigning for other countries to rule against us. And you expect that to not receive at least a measure of resentment from individuals here in the States?

Didn't our current President's father and his predecessor have that same loving relationship at one time?

It's already been explained quite adequately by other posters in this folder about why the U.S. supported Iraq in their war against the Iran. Without sounding cliche, it really was a different world back then and we made deals with devils in order to neutralize those who we viewed as even greater threats. You can question in retrospect whether such associations were the right thing to do, but at the time they may have been the best solution to the problem.

Your analogy, though, is INCREDIBLY flawed, because the U.S. eventually STOPPED supporting Saddam, whereas France did not. France (and Chirac, personally) maintained a very friendly relationship with Saddam & his regime, pretty much right up until the war, still supplying him with military hardware even AFTER U.N. sanctions.

Even supposing that the U.S. was wrong for supporting Saddam once upon a time, what's France excuse for continuing their relationship far, far after Saddam showed what he was capable of?

BTW, their continued support of him kind of goes back to your "they don't deserve the hate!" remark.

And isn't our current President putting Saddam's party back in government?

Iraq is a sovereign nation now. They can elect or place whomever they want to lead them - even former Baathists or Muslim fundamentalists, to our chagrin. We have no control over who they place in their government.

All the French hate makes me laugh. There would be no United States of America if they hadn't helped us win the Revolutionary War. There would be no statue of liberty. They've never done anything to deserve the hate they're getting. Besides, doesn't the guy you support *say* he believes in "compassionate" conservatism?

Far be it for me to argue with a Mod, but France has SEEMINGLY (emphasis on the word please, no empirical evidence at the moment) done nothing but disagree with the United States since the Reagan years. With the rise of the EU it's gotten worse, as France (and now, to a lesser extent, Germany) look like they're trying to stake a claim as world powers. The best way to do that is to "stand up" to the big bully USA and make it back down.

Plus, in light of their "conscientious objection" of the invasion now looking economically based, they look like they're willing to sell us out in the UN Security Council if it'll make 'em a few bucks.

And if you want to talk Revolutionary War, I think the scales have been more than balanced by our bailing them out in both World Wars, as well as getting us dragged into Vietnam ("advisors" at Dien Bien Phu, etc.).

And in response to your other post (triple posting is passe), Reagan saw Iraq as a thorn in the side of Iran. They were a way to keep Khomeni busy. I doubt that qualifies as a "loving relationship". The saying "enemy of my enemy is my friend" is at least somewhat applicable here.
