Brett Favre Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 They got Zito, Hudson, who's next? WHO'S NEXT!?
strummer Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Hudson minimizes the damage, Sox only get 3. A terrible AB by Cabrera let Hudson off the hook. Hudson walks 3 guys and there are no outs and Cabrera tries to bunt!!, fails, and eventually K's.
Brett Favre Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 What a dumbass. A's still have a chance, atleast, although Pedro ain't too shabby either. They have to get to him early.
Guest Staravenger Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Hudson hits Varitek on the calf, continuing his (Not so) lucky streak of putting batters on base with a free pass, and as I say that some other guy gets a single whos name I missed. Â Edit: it was Orlando Cabrera. Â Bases loaded AGAIN with no one out. Â Hudson walks in a fourth run.
Brett Favre Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 The A's are starting to suck ass. Out with Moneyball, in with some winning ball. Â Eh, then again, the Red Sox haven't lost in like 2 months.
Bored Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Ugh, this is just a massacre. The Red Sox just simply own the A's since Game 3 of last year. No way to get around it. If the A's hang on in the West I now actively hope the Red Sox win the East so the A's don't get them in the ALDS. Â The A's are starting to suck ass. Out with Moneyball, in with some winning ball. Still in first place ya know.
Bruiser Chong Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Have to say, the Sox are just fun to watch right now. They're starting to remind me of last year's team. You wanted to watch them just because you knew you'd be in for a treat. Â It's the little things that make the difference, too. On that groundball from Bellhorn that should've been two, you saw Damon haul ass just to break it up. By putting forth a little more effort, the Sox got another run. With Pedro on the mound, I'd say this one's more or less over. Â In other news, Randall Simon got released...again.
treble Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Nice pitchers duel so far tonight in Anaheim. Justin Miller's only given up 1 hit and faced only 2 over the minimum into the 7th, but the Jays are only up 1-0 on a run on off a 1st inning Delgado double that only happened since no one in the outfield picked the ball up and Adam Kennedy couldn't come up with it. Escobar's got 11 strike-outs, too. Â I'm just waiting for Miller and/or the bullpen to blow it, though.
Guest MikeSC Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 .....and in game 2 Jd Drew gets beaned and leaves. FUCK YOU PHILLY. Our compensation pick for Drew's greed was Eric Valent. We're even now. Hell, it's gotta suck to come out on the short end of the Millwood/Estrada trade. -=Mike
treble Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Whoa, the Jays held on. Escobar gets the REALLY tough luck loss, going 8, giving up only 5 hits and striking out 12.
strummer Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Harold Reynolds on SportCenter just ripped the Cubs big time, saying they will fall out of the wild card race. Look for the Cubs to win the wild card by at least 5 games.

Look for the Cubs to win the wild card by at least 5 games. Sad thing is the Cubs will probably be motivated by Reynold's comments.
NoCalMike Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Angels lose and fail to capatilize on the A's stinkin' the joint up..... Â The A's did look like the better team last year in the regular season, between them and the Red Sox, and look what happened in the playoffs, so that just goes to show that if they happen to meet this year it could be a reverse of.........eh who am I kidding......ugh.
The Man in Blak Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Harold Reynolds on SportCenter just ripped the Cubs big time, saying they will fall out of the wild card race. Look for the Cubs to win the wild card by at least 5 games. Sad thing is the Cubs will probably be motivated by Reynold's comments. Right - tell me Moises Alou isn't drafting an angry letter to send to ESPN right now.
Fökai Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (AP) - In breaking news, the Chicago Cubs players have ordered regional broadcaster WGN to withhold footage from the remaining Chicago homegames (which includes any subsequent highlights and any available audio) from ESPN and its sister networks. To fill the void, ESPN will air thirty-second clips of the 1993 motion picture "Rookie Of The Year" in the highlights' slot.
Mik Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Another reason the Cubs are going to win: John Kruk is going with the Marlins as his team to emerge from the N.L. wild card, so in other words they are a cursed franchise. Â Couldn't they have found someone a little better than Kruk? At least Harold Reynolds isn't a complete fool and he's a good TV personality to boot. I see little redeeming value in John Kruk at all.
The Man in Blak Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 *feels burning rant about the Best Damn Sports Show slowly bubbling up in his throat* Â And with everything that happened last night, now the Houston Astros have the NL wild card, after everybody left them for dead, said they should trade Beltran, said they should trade Clements, and nearly asked them to close down the franchise for the rest of the year. Â I certainly hope that this keeps up, so that Dusty Baker gets canned for betting the house (and the careers of his young pitching staff) on reaching the playoffs the last two years.
Bruiser Chong Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 I'd like to see the Cubs reach the postseason, but perhaps not getting there would be more beneficial, as that would ensure more changes. I'd imagine that Moises is gone after this year, despite being the team's anchor earlier in the year. Even though Sosa's got another year to go, they have to find a way to get rid of him. Â I seem to recall him saying that once the fans let him know it was time to go, he'd go. Well, I'd say the Wrigley faithful booing you on a regular basis qualifies. Â Also get the feeling that they'll let Clement walk if he keeps this injury stuff up. And if he does, he'll be perfect for the Yankees.
The Czech Republic Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Harold Reynolds on SportCenter just ripped the Cubs big time, saying they will fall out of the wild card race. Look for the Cubs to win the wild card by at least 5 games. Sad thing is the Cubs will probably be motivated by Reynold's comments. These Cubs wouldn't be motivated by a red-hot poker up the ass. Seriously, threaten them all with burning leaden sodomy if they lose, and Moises Alou would get caught in a rundown every time he gets on base, swear at an umpire for calling him out, and get tossed so he could go to the clubhouse, turn on WGN, and bitch that Steve Stone said that might've been a dumb play.
The Man in Blak Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Even though Sosa's got another year to go, they have to find a way to get rid of him. And that's the great irony: Sosa, who had previously carried the franchise on his back in the 90's, inadvertently created the pseudo-deadline that the Cubs absolutely had to make the postseason NOW if they wanted to have a chance to win it all. "By gawd, Sosa's only got a couple of years left, we've got to strike now!", cried the desperate fandom (and, apparently, upper management), deciding not to realize the possibilities that: Â A) Sosa wasn't going to hit 50 HRs a year for the rest of his career B) Their young pitching, if properly managed, could keep them in contention for the rest of the decade (Exhibit A: the Oakland Athletics) Â If they had just been patient, the Cubs could have had filet mignon for the next five years on that pitching staff alone, but the franchise was so hungry to dispel this ridiculous curse that they absolutely had to gorge on candy bar after candy bar as though they'd never be able to eat again, without thinking of future digestive consequences. Â ... Â Okay, that might be a troublesome analogy, but hopefully you get my point.
the max Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Who would take a broken down Sosa? Â I can see a team being fucking dumb enough to take Alou, but I wouldn't take Sammy if he was covered in $100 bills.
Guest Staravenger Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (AP) - In breaking news, the Chicago Cubs players have ordered regional broadcaster WGN to withhold footage from the remaining Chicago homegames (which includes any subsequent highlights and any available audio) from ESPN and its sister networks. To fill the void, ESPN will air thirty-second clips of the 1993 motion picture "Rookie Of The Year" in the highlights' slot. Wow...couldn't they find a baseball movie featuring the Cubs that DIDN'T suck? Shows how worried the team is about actually winning games instead of paying attention to what the big bully broadcasters are saying about them.
The Man in Blak Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 If the White Sox lose Magglio Ordonez, I could see them making a run for Sosa, given Ken Williams apparent preference towards proven veteran talent (the man did trade for Roberto Alomar twice in two years, you know). Â And Staravenger, you do know that...oh, nevermind. I don't have the heart.
Mik Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 I think you need to read that a few more times, Staravenger.
Bruiser Chong Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 MiB, I agree with you completely. Years ago, it may have seemed that Sosa was the Cubs' only ticket to the postseason. Now it's clear that if they hadn't messed with their rotation and added some more potent bats they were able to get without Sosa's huge contract, their chances would've been better. Â I don't understand this, though, since he was god-awful the one year they didn make it to the postseason and he was just okay last year. Â Even if he's got another year on his contract, I'd still like to see him walk away with some semblence of dignity left. If he sticks around for another year, it's not going to happen. Like him or not, this is certainly tough to watch the guy go from being a sports icon to a true shell of his former self. Â But whatever, ya know. Sosa and Alou are deemed leaders of the club when they've become more like cancers. Dusty and his idiot crew of coaches will continue to make stupid decisions and then find a way to put a positive spin on it. But above all else, we know who's really to blame. Chip and Steve.
The Czech Republic Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Why replace Moises Alou with Carlos Beltran? Clearly it's Chip and Steve that are getting caught in rundowns.
Bruiser Chong Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Like I said earlier, if nothing else, Moises' boneheaded baserunning lets Steve Stone deliver more of that biting sarcasm. It's scary though how often we're getting to hear, "Well, that's a dandy piece of baserunning," these days. But what do you expect when you've got Dusty and Sarge leading the ship? These are guys who think when you get on, you should just stand on base and wait for someone to hit it out of the park.
The Man in Blak Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 MiB, I agree with you completely. Years ago, it may have seemed that Sosa was the Cubs' only ticket to the postseason. Now it's clear that if they hadn't messed with their rotation and added some more potent bats they were able to get without Sosa's huge contract, their chances would've been better. Actually, I'm not sure if you got it - let me clarify that a little bit:  Having Sammy Sosa on your team gives you a better chance at a title - after all, they could be starting Tom Goodwin out there - but I think that his legacy as a Cub may have actually affected the Cubs' managerial philosophy in a way that will prove to be detrimental to the health and future of the ballclub.
Guest Staravenger Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 I thought the news report was saying that they wouldn't be airing Cubs highlights with the broadcasters taking shots at the team for fucking up. Â Unless everyone means the movie thing, that was just "what does this have to do with ESPN Sports Center?"
