Orton is a ratings DRAW~!

Recommended Posts

Guest player

This week Raw garnered a 3.7 rating on hour ratings of 3.6 and 3.7. Since Orton has won the title, Raw's rating has gone from a 3.2 (the week before SSlam) to a 3.7. This clearly shows that fans find Orton to be an appealing television character, more so than Chris Benoit, who didn't capture the fans' interest as much, as the cascading RAW ratings during his reign would reveal.

Or this is just a normal variation on the ratings and it means nothing overall.

or maybe the fact that there was actual effort and a build to Orton as champ, unlike Benoit who was treated as a 3rd-tier champ, in the way of Evolution's air time.

I'll view him as a ratings draw as soon as data is released that shows the ratings spike for the particular quarter hour in which he appears.

I personally am more apt to tune in when Orton's on, basically because he's something new.

Yeah, honestly I usually half watch Raw now, while I do stuff on the computer or do homework or something. During the show, the Orton segments are about the only ones where I stop what I'm doing, and actually pay attention to the show. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't even watch the show right now.

Here's my sliding scale of entertainment.

Orton= mildly interesting

HHH= OK

the rest of Raw= really boring

the Diva search= one of the worst things on television today

Less Divas and more wrestling means more ratings.

Somebody likes to forget Benoit wasn't even in the main event half the time during his reign.

It'll be interesting to see if they can sustain this level of ratings this Monday and beyond (when Monday night Football debuts). Usually there's a small (.2-.3) drop.

Before everybody starts sucking on Orton's you know what , here are the real ratings:

CORRECTION ON THE RAW NUMBER

by Dave Scherer @ 9:01:00 AM on 9/9/2004

Even though this week's edition of Raw did hours of 3.6 and 3.7, it actually rounded down to a 3.6. It was up from last week's 3.5. The show's top rated segment occurred at 10 p.m., when they did a 4.0 quarter hour. The overrun also did a 4.0.

The top rated segment was at 10 pm, I guess that was either the retard vs. HHH or Y2J vs. Turdko.

The ratings don't rise and fall so much based on who is champion, but what the top storyline was. Throughout the majority of Benoit's title reign, the top story lines were Triple H vs Shawn Michaels and then Triple H vs Eugene. If I remember correctly, Raw was doing better ratings than they are now while Benoit was still the focus point of a feud with both Triple H and HBK, and then later on with just HBK.

In other news on the bad t-shirt front, I actually saw someone wearing a FOCK FEAR, DRINK BEER shirt at Ozzfest.

The sad thing is I've seen several of these lately as well...

What will prove Randy is a ratings draw is a long and consistent showing of his segments getting the best numbers of the night. Until then, a couple of weeks of apparently good ratings mean nothing. And if the Orton Fan Boy Network still insist on trying to paint the last month as some kind of 'proof' that he is a ratings draw, then they should consider the fact that the final Raw before Summerslam drew a 3.9, and the first one after, with Orton now Champion, drew a 3.4. Starting off like that, of course the ratings are going to rise; they could hardly get worse.

I'm more interested in the Unforgiven buyrate than a couple of weeks of ratings. As it stands, Orton is being pushed as the #1 babyface and is probably no higher than the #3 babyface, in terms of crowd favorites. And I think I'm being generous.

Randy Orton himself is not a ratings draw.

A show which focuses on the champion, a champion who is actually involved in an interesting major storyline however...is.

There are few wrestlers around right now, in WWE or otherwise, who are a "ratings draw" in and of themselves.

I guess we are supposed to ignore the fact that when Benoit was champ Raw got a 3.7 rating or better 14 times out of 22 shows.

I'm beginning to think that maybe they should have pushed Batista instead of Orton. He always seems to get good reactions.

Scott Keith said the same thing.

Benoit, Jericho, Goldberg and Eddie are guys that became World champion but didn't even get half the push Orton, Lesnar or even JBL is getting.

XFL got a 9.7 some of the early games...............THE BIG GAME LA vs SF or whatever 2 california teams made a 1.6.

NBC cancelled football league.....SPIKE TV should cancel the Diva Search like they did the Jon Henson Show.

Here is a sensible question how am I suppose to be hyped about the PPV when RAW is nothing but Diva Search and Kane's Wedding? The way they are promoting the Kane storyline you would expect a raw orgy featuring Kane & Lita as swingers with the Diva Search women.

I think it was just because of the cage match stips, lack of competition, and the fact that it was a well-booked show.

As far as being over, Orton's a bit of a flop thus far as a face. The crowd was sitting on its hands for Orton v.s. Kane, while Benoit is getting bigger pops than ever.

Same thread, different week. Everyone thinks they know why the ratings went up or down.

I'll play, it's because school went back this week!
