Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 God damn it, if this game goes into overtime... ...never mind.
Guest Staravenger Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 And they miss the field goal with 24 seconds left.
KingPK Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 I agree that the Pats have woefully underused Dillon tonight. No good!! The streak is snapped, and the win streak continues! Fun game to open the season, but I still think that they will dump the whole chuck rule thing by Week 4.
Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 But the Colts covered the spread
Guest Vitamin X Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 AHHHHHHHHHHH HAHAHAHA I NEVER want to hear about Vanderjagt being lauded over as better than Vinateri again. EVER.
2GOLD Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 I just had 7 heart attacks. Ahhh, must be football season. So much for Vanders "best kicker in the NFL" argument.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 I knew that was going to happen once Manning got sacked. Some of the shitties play calling I've ever seen just happened at the end of this game.
Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 RE: the timeout: The HARDEST kicks to hit are when your special teams has to run onto the field against the clock and kick it. Absolutely beyond a shadow of a doubt. This kick was only to tie the game; there's virtually no chance that NE would have to worry about winning it, they'd probably take their chances with OT. As it turns out, Vanderjagt missed it anyways, but that could've been a bad move.
2GOLD Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Great job by New England defensively in the red zone and poor play in the red zone by the Colts. Why you don't run with James in that situation is a mystery to me. Ok, so will the Colts have excuses this time or will they just accept they got defeated?
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 The Colts always have excuses when Jim Mora isn't talking.
Damaramu Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Ah man. I was rooting for the Colts but god damn. They got outplayed. And stupid turnovers!
cabbageboy Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Jesus, what was Manning doing on that last play? You absolutely cannot take a sack in that situation. Granted, Vanderjagt should have still made it from 48 but it's a much harder kick. Ugh, Manning had an INT at the goal line, James fumbled inside the 20. I've just about had my fill of the Patriots though...will someone just beat these fucks?
2GOLD Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Final stats James rushed for 142 yards on 30 carries but two fumbles and no touchdowns. Manning threw for 265 on 16-for-29 with 2 TDs and 1 INT. Stokley had 77 yards off 4 catches with a TD. Harrison had 7 grabs for 44 yards and a TD. Dillon rushed for 86 yards on 15 carries and Brady threw for 335 yards on 26-fo-38 with 3 TDs and 1 INT. Branch made 7 grabs for 86 yards with a TD.
Guest El Satanico Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Well Manning didn't exactly "take" the sack. By time he looked and saw McGinest the only thing he could do was think oh shit and try to hang on to the ball.
Guest GreatOne Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 I highly doubt that the rule, whether controversial or not, will be vacated in three weeks. Hell aren't some of you still making fun of Vince McMahon's league for doing exactly that? That said, the problem is not the rule, cause Dungy said it best a couple weeks back on ESPN radio, we're gonna see who's average and who's really good now, the problem will still be the inconsistency. You can't change that with a rulebook (Maddenism). I guess if you're Tony Dungy, you hope if you have to play NE in the playoffs again that Willie McGinest has like food poisoning or something.
Slayer Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Funny thing is that the Colts got that bump rule on the books because of their whining about the AFC title game last year... and they still couldn't win this game
KingPK Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Yeah, show some consistency here. They didn't call it at all in the first half (as far as I could tell), and I'll bet there were plenty of instances that they could have made the call, but in the 4th, the flags suddenly come out? Call it all game if you want to reinforce the rule, not just when the game is close. And I would take out the "automatic 1st" part. Make it like an incidental facemask call: 5-10 yards either tacked onto the play (if it's a completion) or move the ball 5-10 yards up if it isn't. If the defender is all over the receiver, call pass interference and go from there. I still think that a lot of coaches and players will complain about it, and the NFL will back off a bit.
NoCalMike Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 I think the officials were too busy looking into the secondary, because the Pats O-line got away with some blatant holds. Especially the one on the 25yd TD toss. It was very blatant.
Dangerous A Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 While the Pats got this game, they need to address their run defense. They allowed way more run yards than they usually do and we'll see if this is a trend to follow for them this year.

And the fact that they finally decided to exploit the overrated Rodney Harrison.
alfdogg Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Congrats to the Pats. We didn't deserve to win after blowing it like that. I had a Vikings fan teasing me about how badly we blew it. That's how bad it was. AHHHHHHHHHHH HAHAHAHA I NEVER want to hear about Vanderjagt being lauded over as better than Vinateri again. EVER. Don't be retarded. Are you saying one missed field goal in an, at this point, meaningless game, nullifies an NFL record streak, a perfect percentage for a SEASON, along with having the best percentage in league history?
Guest Flyboy Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Jesus, what was Manning doing on that last play? You absolutely cannot take a sack in that situation. He didn't see McGinest at all -- you can't blame Manning for that one.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 AHHHHHHHHHHH HAHAHAHA I NEVER want to hear about Vanderjagt being lauded over as better than Vinateri again. EVER. Oh who are you kidding? Vanderjagt had hit 42 in a ROW prior to that miss with a career long of 54 or 57, can't remember which. That streak is an NFL Record.
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 That Idiot Kicker does it again. Nah, seriously. Mark was better than Adam last year. He hit more, consecutively. Stick Vanderjact or Akers in Vinateri's spot in the Super Bowl(s), I'm sure they hit the kicks.
Crimson Platypus Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Jesus, what was Manning doing on that last play? You absolutely cannot take a sack in that situation. He didn't see McGinest at all -- you can't blame Manning for that one. Exactly, and that blitz is what a GOOD coach does in that situation. Not sit back in the preventyoufromwinning defense. Did Indy blitz at all last night? I can't remember seeing one single blitz. Dungy is supposed to be a goddamn defensive coach type guy too. Indy was rushing 3-4 guys all night and getting ZERO pressure. Brady looked good though, there were a couple of passes that he threw that had my buddies and I very impressed. I agree with whomever said it above - Dillon was woefully under used. 15-86? That's just over 5 yards per, I figured in the fourth they were gonna pound the ball, but that shithead of a coach just kept throwing, begging for an INT. (for the record, I hate NE, but have Dillon on my fantasy team )
Slayer Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 I had a Vikings fan teasing me about how badly we blew it. Haha
Guest Vitamin X Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 (edited) You all seem to negate the fact the Vanderjagt plays at LEAST half his games in a dome, and so thus the fact that he made all his kicks last year isn't that much of an accomplishment. Gary Anderson did the same thing for the Vikings in 1998 (until the infamous missed kick in the NFC Championship), also another team that plays ina dome. Kickers who excel in bad weather like Adam Vinateri, David Akers, or Ryan Longwell (who, prior to a bad season which enabled Vanderjagt to overtake Longwell, had held the NFL's record for accuracy despite kicking in Lambeau Field) AND can maintain their accuracy as well as their ability in the clutch are a lot better than Vanderjagt, who benefits from having a good enough offense to give him great field position most of the time to make his kicks. Not say Vanderjagt isn't a hell of a good kicker, just that I think it's absurd people say he's one of the best in the NFL. I don't think you would have seen Vinateri miss that game-winner. Hey, it's also funny the only two who called me out on this are from Indiana. What a coincidence. Edited September 10, 2004 by Vitamin X
Slayer Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Whatever happened to Pete Stoyanavich? That guy was the best kicker for most of the 90's, then he just disappears
Kahran Ramsus Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Well, I lost the game, but on the plus side Tom Brady (my FF starting QB) kicked ass.
