Guest Staravenger Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 Charlie Hough COULD be one, but thats a wild guess since he pitched from like 1970 to 1993.
Guest Staravenger Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 I give up. My knowledge of pitchers from the late 60's through late 80's is pretty horrible. Bonds hits #701 off of Wells today, if anyone cares. Padres-Giants tied 1-1 last I checked in the top of the 6th.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted September 18, 2004 Author Report Posted September 18, 2004 Nope. The two pitchers are Frank Tanana and Rick Reuschel.
Mik Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 I knew Frank Tanana but I had no idea about Rick Reuschel. Milestone watch: Bonds hit #43 - 701 Ichiro has a hit today in the 6th inning with at least one more at bat.
Slayer Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 The two pitchers are Frank Tanana Daiquiri
Guest Smues Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 Looks like a good pitching duel going on in Florida. Damn I wish it was on TBS and not Turner South.
Mik Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 If Beckett doesn't get out of this jam, the game and the season is over. I hate to use hyperbole, but damn if it isn't true.
Mik Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 Just like that 4-0 Braves. I hate to be that cynical fan, but I think it's time to start praying for the stadium fairies to come up with $30 million dollars and for Loria to open his wallet for Pavano and at least one key free agent (that is assuming that things go to plan and LoDuca agrees to stay, which is almost a lock), because this season is over.
Bruiser Chong Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 I, for one, was glad to see Beckett get shelled. Not just because it's the Marlins or because he's an arrogant prick, but because my opposition in fantasy baseball this week had him going tonight and I needed some help after Jason Schmidt's lousy outing.
the max Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 I love how dramatic some people on here can be.
Bruiser Chong Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 He's right, though. A Marlins loss and a Cubs win tonight would put them five out, so it'd take quite a bit from the Marlins to still clinch if they fall tonight.
Mik Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 It's the truth. The Marlins are done. 4.5 back...losing more games than winning lately and there are only 17 games left. As Al said yesterday, they have a 3% chance of making the playoffs, and that was before two straight losses to the Braves. It's more like 1% now and fading every day. I wasn't being dramatic or unrealistic. They are done. EDIT: I find it a coincidence and a bit funny that I used by 1918th post to talk about a team having no chance of winning the World Series.

Well thats a weird coincidence. Now we know who the Sox fans will blame for choking this year. Just kidding. Too bad about the Marlins though, I'd rather them be in the Wild Card than San Francisco or Chicago.

Cubs fans will be pleased to know that their odds of winning the wild card are now 60%.
The Czech Republic Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 FUCK! Reds tie the game at 4 in the 6th. Dammit!
Guest Anglesault Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 Is there any question that Lieber is the Yankees number three (w/o Brown) or four (w/ Brown) in the playoffs? Javy is bullpen.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted September 19, 2004 Author Report Posted September 19, 2004 Is there any question that Lieber is the Yankees number three (w/o Brown) or four (w/ Brown) in the playoffs? Javy is bullpen. Hard to say. The most recent start isn't always the best indicator. Vazquez did look good in his last start as well. It boils down to the next few weeks, as each pitcher will have a chance to display what they've got going for them.

The Czech Republic Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 Is there any question that Lieber is the Yankees number three (w/o Brown) or four (w/ Brown) in the playoffs? Javy is bullpen. So if there's no Brown, which will probably be the case, Tanyon Sturtze is the #4?
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted September 19, 2004 Author Report Posted September 19, 2004 Without Brown, it'd be Hernandez, Mussina, Lieber, Vazquez. Otherwise they face a three-man rotation. As shaky as Vazquez has been, Sturtze or Loaiza would be absolute death.
Guest Staravenger Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 I wouldn't say having Sturtze as a depseration 4th starter isn't THAT bad. His main problem is he'll have one good game, then follow it up with the worst performance ever. I'd rate him well above Esteban Loaiza, who's pitched maybe 4 good innings with the Yankees.

Probably less than that. The thing with Sturtze is that when he throws strikes, he can be dominant. But when he doesn't, he gets behind in counts, and gives up a lot of hits. But Anglesault's right. Liebers been really good the last month, and Javy has well, blown.

Bruiser Chong Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 And the Cubs wind up blowing a three-run lead and losing the game 6-5. The real frustrating part of it is they had five hits in the last two innings, but bad breaks like outfield assists and double-plays saw to it that only one run came from it all. One thing few will look back to is early in the game in the inning where Alou homered. Lee followed it with a single and advanced to third on a big wild pitch. Sosa proceeded to strike out, Grudzielanek popped out and Paul Bako is Paul Bako, which meant that Lee didn't score. That wound up being the difference tonight.
Vern Gagne Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 Hey Twins the divisions not clinched yet.
