Was the Sosa sit down a benching, or a defensive move?

EDIT: Not everhbody can be Barry Bonds. Hell, most of the Yankees from the legacy are starting to run down. Bernie defintley is, but hes still productive. I'm not sure about Posada, but I think it just might be an off season for him.

Sosa has declined, but what about Piazza!? This guy is a pop up machine.

Be fair. He also has the rally killer GIDP.

um, I think McCarver and Lewin are kind of sounding ridiculous saying this is a MUST WIN for the Cubs. THEY HAVE TO WIN THIS GAME OR THE SEASON IS OVER!!!Come on they are a .5 up with a full week to play. Yes, it's an important game, but the Cubs are still in it no matter what. Another reason to hate Fox broadcasters

What an ugly and truly hideous game. Give the Mets credit, they didn't give up. Prior was the one bright spot, but as has been the case much this season, it's gone to waste.

The possibility of losing two of three to the Mets is quite scary this late in the season.

Fuck this. I knew I shouldn't have taken so much joy in the asskicking the Astros took today. Leave it to the Cubs' bullpen to completely suck all the joy out of baseball today.

RYAN DEMPSTER SHOULD BE FIRED FOR WALKING A PAIR OF WEAKASS HITTERS IN THE NINTH INNING.

Dempster fucked up but it was a shock. Hawkins came in, I started to worry. But he has eight blown saves as a closer, I believe. Not very good, not at all. Jon Leicester should get a shot at closing games, but now's not the time to experiment.

Johnny Pesky has been banned from the Red Sox dugout. Fucking Christ, who was the poor guy hurting? Seriously? He wasn't actually coaching or advising, he was just watching his team.

He was giving steroids to David Ortiz, he's part of the evil NELCO.

The blown save is not a good stat to measure Hawkins. He earned four of those as a middle reliever. Middle relievers get credited with a blown save when they give up the tying run in the seventh inning, for example. The save stat in general needs to go, actually.

and the Giants blow the game open in the bottom of the 8th and lead the Dodgers 9-5. Looks like that was a big loss for the Cubs today, their lead should shrink to a half a game

Let's see Cubs lose, A's lose to the Angels, Giants about to beat the Dodgers. Ugh.

If the Rangers win tonight my day is officially ruined.

Texas get it right today, a win over Seattle and back to 2 games out. They cannot afford to lose to the Mariners again, and really need at least 3 from 4 against the Angels, probably a sweep since Oakland by all rights should take care of Seattle in their 4 game series.

Ichiro also goes 1-5, down to i think 7 hits away from the record.

Ok. Sunday we've got Chicago @ NY Mets, Kerry Wood vs. Al Leiter. The Cubs lead the wild card race by half a game. Houston battles Milwaukee, Carlos Hernandez vs. Victor Santos. The Astros trail the Cubs by 2.5 games.

Seattle battles Texas, Cha Seung Baek versus Ryan Drese. The Rangers trail the A's by two games. The A's battle the Angels, with Mark Mulder battling John Lackey. The Angels also trail the A's in the West by two games. A's/Angels is the Sunday Night game on ESPN2.

Dodgers versus Giants, Jeff Weaver versus Brett Tomko. Giants trail the West by 1.5 games, and the wild card by half a game.

Finally, the final Yankees/Sox game of the regular season sees Kevin Brown attempt a comback, as he faces Curt Schilling. The game has no real significance in itself, but Brown's performance will be a major postseason factor.

Yankees are in the playoffs. They'll either get Oakland (assuming they hold onto the AL West), or suffer facing Minnesota. It doesn't matter, because the Yanks haven't been looking like a championship team this year and I doubt they'll get to the WS.

I can't believe the Cubs lost to the Mets today after being up 3-0. I mean, the Cubs have a gift final 2 weeks playing jobbers like the Mets and Reds (not to mention a Braves team the final 3 games that will be resting people for the playoffs) and yet are trying their damnedest to blow it.

If the Cubs don't win the Wild Card, they can look back at this series with the Mets, where they only salvage seven runs in the entire series, as the reason why they didn't make it. They've been three-hit today and have looked very lethargic all day. Worse yet, Kerry Wood's horrible first inning is going to be the deciding factor, as all the Mets' runs came there, two of which came from Mets getting hit or being walked with the bases loaded.
