Well, all I can hope for is the Giants losing this one tonight, then the Cubs are only down 1/2 to the Stros and can win tomorrow to tie that up. Ah who am I kidding? Anyone who loses 2 games to both the Mets and Reds doesn't even deserve to make the playoffs.

But that Santana start is one automatic loss.

No it's not. Santana's going to go six innings, and if we keep it close, it absolutely isn't an automatic loss.

It's sad when I'm the voice of reason.

BTW, in case anyone was wondering, Matsui is a beast.

Well Texas blew it tonight and their season is all but officially over. The A's getting pretty close to that. Holding on to a very shaky 2-1 lead in the 8th, Mariners have 2nd and 3rd with one out. A rare great outing by an A's starting pitcher by Rich Harden but it looks like it might go to waste. If they can't win tonight I think they're done.

Oh and the Angels winning also guarentees I won't see any celebration on Friday night. Well I might see the Angels celebrate which I don't plan on hanging around to watch if it happens.

Two-run, two out single puts the Mariners up 3-2. A's season slipping away. This is beyond depressing.

Single, throwing errror, 4-2 Mariners. This team has completey fallen apart.

Hell I can't say that as pathetic as the M's season as been I'm disappointed. Playing hell with the AL West and the Ichi-hits chase will do that..............

Not to mention that Bobby Madritsch, the post-Tacoma Gil Meche, Jeremy Reed, Bucky Jacobsen, Justin Leone--who was decent up until he got hurt, and Jose Lopez (who will be that much better when he gets the SS thing down) have given some much-needed life that could have been used on say, April 6............... :D

This is hardly the end of the line for the A's. I think this weekend they'll come out hot...and go even further into the plyoffs than usual. But tthats me.

I still would rather see a New York/Boston ALCS even though the A's are my boys.

Ichiro hits third in the 9th.

The injury to Rafael Soriano cannot be overlooked as a huge reason that this team flopped (I mentioned that cause I'd hate to see JJ Putz or Shiggy or whoever blow this game after Madritsch does such an awesome job again).

Would you believe that in Greg Dobbs' .200 odyssey, his first AB was a homer?

And he pops out to left........

I suppose I'm the only one who finds Ichiro's chase infinitely more interesting than any of the 30 someodd things Bonds chased this year?

Redman tommorrow, Mulder Friday.

Hey it was a nice little four year run.

Ownership will likely cut payroll since they won't get extra postseason revenue this year and Beane would then possibly resign.

I'm very likely going to get to watch the Angels win the divsion on Friday, in person on my birthday. Four years ago the A's won the division on my birthday and I also saw that in person. Guess I'm coming full circle.

Well of course not :D

The Magic Man Bobby Madritsch does it again, I don't know if he warrants any ROY specualtion (prob not) but hell the guy only had one real shitty start and had a lot to do with possibly saving a team from spiraling towards 100 losses.

And the M's clinch a winning roadtrip against the AL West, who they were 3-16 against on the road coming in. Who'd have thought that one up?

The M's are actually only 11-16 in September but they also lost their first seven games of the month too

Why didn't he just let the ball drop foul? A major-league outfielder needs to be aware of where he is on the field. Beyond that, he was near the Giants' bullpen, and his teammates there should have been shouting at him to let it fall.

You are the most disgusting Oakland A's fan I've seen. You've bitched and moaned about a lot of things all year, and now its annoying.

There is 4 games left in the season, they are only 1 game out of first and their final 3 games are against the team that is ni first place. Quit being such a fucking whiney pussy as they are nowhere close to being written off.

Honestly.

Shit.

Think on the bright side, even if they DO make it, they'll choke (again) in the ALDS.

The Angels pull through again again tonight in the stretch - some great fielding and clutch hitting could not have better timing. We are in form but I hope Texas does not 'do a Seattle' now they are offocially out - play relaxed and end up playing better.

The Angels have a bad record in Oakland but if we could head into that series 2 up the team has enough quality to take 1 game from that series, especially with Oakland's pitching down the stretch.

Texas is officially eliminated. Since Anaheim and Oakland are playing each other to end the season, one of those teams has to win two games. If Oakland keeps it within one game today, we are going to have ourselves one hell of a closing weekend series.

Today is one of those annoying Thursdays, where I miss everything because of classes and work. Damn it all.

Whatever, I've seen plenty of idiot fans write their teams off during the first half of the season including A's fans. I may have layed it on a little thick last night but this team just looks dead right now. They showed the dugout in the 9th last night and all the players had their heads down. They looked like they'd already given up.

No they aren't out of it but they are playing like a team that thinks they've already been eliminated. With Redman and his home ERA over 7 pitching today and Mulder who's completely hit a wall this season going Friday confidence can't be that high.

Here's the Denney story:

Indians Pitcher Kyle Denney Shot

Thursday, September 30, 2004

Associated Press

KANSAS CITY, Mo.  — A Cleveland Indians (search) pitcher was shot in the right calf when a bullet pierced the team's bus and grazed another player late Wednesday night.

Team trainers were able to remove the bullet from the calf of Kyle Denney (search), who was expected to spend the night in the hospital but was not seriously hurt, club spokesman Bart Swain said.

The rest of the team was unharmed. The shooting occurred as the team rode to Kansas City International Airport after a game with the Kansas City Royals (search).

Swain said the shot was fired into the side of one of the Indians' two buses while it was on a ramp between Interstate 435 and I-70, grazing outfielder Ryan Ludwick.

"It went through his pants and then hit Denney," Swain said. "At first, there was a little bit of panic. Once we realized Kyle was OK, fears were subsided."

Police spokesman Darin Snapp said there were no suspects and it wasn't known if the team's bus was the intended target. Telephone messages left for the Royals were not immediately returned.

The Indians arrived safely at the airport and boarded a plane bound for Minneapolis early Thursday.

Denney, who started Wednesday night's 5-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium, was expected to rejoin the Indians on Thursday in Minnesota, where Cleveland begins its final series of the season Friday.

After getting called up from Triple-A Buffalo on Sept. 14, the 27-year-old Denney is 1-2 with a 9.56 ERA in four starts with Cleveland. He beat Kansas City 8-3 on Sept. 19 for his first major league win.

Goddamnit. Mohr.....

Bah. I gave up on the season on Sunday at Pac Bell, when our bullpen forgot how to pitch. Since, that last Houston game, the Gents have regressed back to their April form. Not good.

Now Dustan Mohr gets hurt, on a play he shouldn't have been making. Bonds looks like he's playing hurt, Schmidt can't a hold anyone under 3 runs anymore, a rookie is our best pitcher, and the bullpen, after certain pitchers complained of not enough playing time, can't get anyone out.

It's over. They got hot at the wrong time. Now I gotta watch the As/Angels and Dodgers in the play-offs. Fuck!

Hey, the Giants and Cubs both lost extra inning games yesterday and get to play division winners in the last series (Braves, Dodgers). The Braves might put forth some kind of effort, so I doubt the Cubs can sweep them. Dodgers we know will try their best to stick it to the Giants, so the Giants are even more fucked.

At this point, it's Houston's to lose. They just have the Rockies remaining.

Lineups for the Cubs game have been posted. Barrett's not in the lineup (presumably because he caught all 12 innings yesterday) and Lee's batting seventh. Interesting. But this is it. They lose today and you can call it a season for the Cubs.

For those of you who haven't been paying attention, Adam Dunn has been getting closer to the all-time strikeout record. Welp, today's the day. He K's in his first two at-bats, making that record all his.

Can't say I'm surprised, though, as Prior's struck out eight through four.
