Skywarp! Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/science/09/30...s.ap/index.html If you've been following the news in the past few days, scientists are noting that the situation has been getting worse and worse. Here's hoping that if eruption is inevitable, that it's not as destructive as the 1980 blast. They don't seem to think it will...
Guest MikeSC Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 Well, I imagine that not too many people reside in the area that was so devastated in 1980, so hopefully, the damage will be less. -=Mike
Guest Smues Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 Wasn't born quite yet for the last one, but I can't see this one being near as bad. It hasn't had as much time to build up. Although I'm sure I'll still get plenty of ash over here on the east side of the state. Maybe I'll get lucky and it'll erupt while i'm at home, and block the freeway so I can't go out to campus.
Guest GreatOne Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 Oh great here we go with the KXLY live coverage................ I mean if it's anything like 1980 sure..................but christ we ain't there yet.
Guest Smues Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 I'll be sure to avoid KXLY until it blows then. Hell I'll probably want to avoid all of the local channels. VOLCANO WATCH 04!! I guess I should go ahead and label a few empty jars "St. Helens Ash - 04" and get them ready to collect ash to sell on ebay. BUY ACTUALLY ASH THAT I PICKED UP OFF THE STREET!!
MrRant Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 Indeed. Well.. maybe that day I won't have to go to work because driving on ash is... dangerous?
Skywarp! Posted October 1, 2004 Author Report Posted October 1, 2004 http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/science/10/01...lens/index.html Mt. St. Helens is now spewing smoke and ash. Experts say this is the one step before eruption.
Rob E Dangerously Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 Is anybody going to just stay in their homes this time? (like Harry Truman.. who died in the eruption)
Styles Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 (like Harry Truman.. who died in the eruption) What? Truman died in '72 from heart failure.
Guest Smues Posted October 2, 2004 Report Posted October 2, 2004 I'm thinking maybe Harry Trumen is the name of that crazy old guy who refused to leave his home even though they kept warning him he'd die if it blew.
Styles Posted October 2, 2004 Report Posted October 2, 2004 I'm thinking maybe Harry Trumen is the name of that crazy old guy who refused to leave his home even though they kept warning him he'd die if it blew. OK, I was thinking of the former POTUS, and was thinking WTF?
Rob E Dangerously Posted October 2, 2004 Report Posted October 2, 2004 Harry Truman.. our first president to be killed by a volcano.. Harry Truman –- and his 16 cats -– refused to leave home at the base of Mount St. Helens before the eruption. The 83-year-old operated a lucrative lodge on Spirit Lake.
Guest Smues Posted October 2, 2004 Report Posted October 2, 2004 He was just listening to Bob Barker and doing his part to help control the pet population.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted October 2, 2004 Report Posted October 2, 2004 How sad. All those cats dead. Ditto. He sould have at least gotten those kitties out of the way. Old bastard -- I hope he rots in hell...
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted October 2, 2004 Report Posted October 2, 2004 Dammit, I wish I lived in Washington. This is the exact kind of natural disaster I need to point a shotgun at.
