Pegasus Kid 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2004 Well the next chapter in the fighting game saga from Capcom comes out on October 8th and as a big SF fan I'm about as psyched as possible. Where are the fighting fans with their pissing of pants with glee? http://streamingmovies.ign.com/ps2/article...2404_wmvlow.wmv For those of you who may be out of the loop. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2004 I could've sworn this project got canned. Capcom canned the 3D project Capcom Fighting All Stars. This is different. Which is kind of a shame. WHERE IS MIKE MOTHER****ING HAGGAR?!?!--oh yeah, they'd have to make new sprites. How many people are going to complain because this is not "cannon?" If that's a complaint against SF fanboys, I don't get it. Most SF fans don't give a crap about the storyline, save for the uber-scrubs who care about the HK comics. Plus, nobody really complained about the storylines for the vs. games (the storylines, no, but other things). If this is going to be a really good, finely polished fighter fine-tuned to provide the best possible gameplay, good... Although if it is going to be a scrubby vs.-esque infinite-fest with crappy balance, they could have at least given us a larger roster. Well, it's going to be better than SvsCC at least. Renegade 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2004 3rd strike will do me fine until people can test this game and see the brokeness and whatnot. *Imagines Aegis being used on that huge warzard character*
razazteca 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2004 My comments about storyline being cannon is more based on the discussion about Tekken or SNK than anything else. Its just that I don't understand what the big deal is about storylines in fighting games is..........it's not like its a RPG. If I am going to buy or play a fighting game I only care about the "workrate" if you will. I wonder if this will make the local arcade.
Anya 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2004 What's not to understand about story? Some people like knowing why the characters are fighting.

Anya 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2004 Sometimes. Others have more interesting stories and plot twists.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2004 What's not to understand about story? Some people like knowing why the characters are fighting. Because for games like this storylines make absolutely no damn sense. It's a "dream match" thing. If this had a canon storyline, Sakura and Karin would be in their mid-20's at least, M. Bison should be dead, the Darkstalkers wouldn't really fit in, and....well, I haven't the faintest idea about Warzard. Did the Versus games have a story? Did anyone care? They didn't really have good gameplay either and few cared about that, either. Okay, MvC2 having a boss Capcom just pulled out of nowhere and no endings was lame, though (or was that was a Marvel character they put in as the boss). cannon CANON!! TWO N'S! NOT THREE!!! At least you'd originally put it in quotation marks, because I assume that there are people out there stupid enough to spell it with 3 all the time.
Anya 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2004 I wasn't talking about the versus games. He brought up Tekken and SNK games. Dan's ending in MSHvsSF is cool.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2004 WTF?! A Darkstalkers team without Morrigan?! You have her good friend, Felicia, but no Morrigan herself?! I'm appaled. So not playing this game now... At least with the Darkstalkers team. Seems pretty interesting.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2004 WTF?! A Darkstalkers team without Morrigan?! You have her good friend, Felicia, but no Morrigan herself?! I'm appaled. So not playing this game now... At least with the Darkstalkers team. Seems pretty interesting. Morrigan's sprite is so damn old that it's been mocked by everyone. Felicia's is just as old, but her boobies bounce so they hope people will therefore ignore that for a little while. Dan's ending in MSHvsSF is cool. I agree. Unfortunately, Dan was so craptastically awesome in that that he officially jumped the shark with that game.
Guest ShootingStylesPress Report post Posted October 3, 2004 Did I just see a screen for a video game that indicates Ryu will be razzlin' Dinosaurs?
razazteca 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2004 I wonder if it will have hidden characters, you know a game without Akuma is no fun.
Ced 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2004 Would it kill somebody to update the sprites? As AndrewTS brought up, Morrigan's sprites were obviously dated when they decided to throw her into CvS 2. Dammit this could be the last 2D game for Capcom. Can't they just update the damn sprites? And there's no way you can have any semblance of canon for this game, let alone a decent storyline to explain why a schoolgirl is fighting a 25-foot dinosaur. BTW, who the hell is Ingrid?
Anya 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2004 Capcom doesn't do new sprites or new REAL games because they don't feel there's a market for 2D fighters. Of course you could argue there's not a market for Capcom's fighting games since they haven't done anything original since like 1997.... Ingrid was in Capcom Fighting All-Stars, the canned crappy lookin 3D fighting game they were working on.

Of course you could argue there's not a market for Capcom's fighting games since they haven't done anything original since like 1997.... Well, the SF3's came later, but there's a whole mess of reasons why those never quite flew with folks. Ingrid was in Capcom Fighting All-Stars, the canned crappy lookin 3D fighting game they were working on. Hmph, I didn't know that. Maybe she was a Rival Schools reject, too? From what I gather, her and maybe the Warzard folks are the only new sprites to be found in the game. If Zangief is in under the SF2 roster, does that mean he's going to use his SF2 sprite? Yow. I wonder if it will have hidden characters, you know a game without Akuma is no fun. Shin Akuma and Pyron are supposed to be in.
Anya 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2004 SF III came out in 1997. That's why I said 97.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2004 I think Warzard came out in the 90s also.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2004 SF III came out in 1997. That's why I said 97. Doh--I thought SF3NG was 1999. That was TS, though. I stand corrected. I was thinking of the home version. Although I suppose a 2-3 year timeframe until a home console could support a title could certainly cause interest to wane--yet another factor in SF3's lack of popularity that I had forgotten about. And for the hell of it--Dan's MSH vs. SF ending: http://www.vgmuseum.com/end/arcade/a/mshsfdan.htm The only way it could be more awesome is if Dan's sister was decked out in stereotypical Native American squaw garb. Pegasus Kid 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2004 Did the Versus games have a story? Did anyone care? They didn't really have good gameplay either and few cared about that, either. WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA... Marvel vs Capcom 2 doesn't have good gameplay? That game has been played for years because people continue to enjoy the insane gameplay and discover new and more interesting ways to play it. As for the popularity of the game, it may well be the most popular 2D fighting game in Street Fighter history outside of World Warrior. The past two Evolution tournaments drew 400 and just under 300 players in 2003 and 2004 respectively for MvC2, destroying attendance for any other tournament. As for CFJ; I'm like many hardcore SF players who really don't give a fuck about the sprites of the game. If it plays well, that's all that matters. The community needs something new to play with, break down and rebuild again at a high level and one can only hope CFJ will be that game.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2004 WTF?! A Darkstalkers team without Morrigan?! You have her good friend, Felicia, but no Morrigan herself?! I'm appaled. So not playing this game now... At least with the Darkstalkers team. Seems pretty interesting. I'm still fucking pissed they don't bother to bring back either John Tailban or Lord Raptor. They were both my favorites and I'll take either one any day over fucking Anakaris. Edit: I can finally make my dream match happen of Zangief Vs. Alex, such OWNAGE! Pegasus Kid 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2004 I picked this game up today (first day of course) and unlocked Pyron. So far it's pretty interesting but nothing blowing me away. First tourney in Toronto is on Friday so we'll see who's got some good stuff. Did anyone else pick this game up?
Anya 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2004 I did. This game is even weaker than DOAU. Like 5 minutes into it and it was already stale and boring. I am so sick of these "Dream Match" games. It's not just the graphics either(although they are god awful). It's the same gameplay, the same mechanics, the same moves, the same characters, over and over again. This dream match stuff was interesting and exciting in like 1999, but it's just lame now. I can see how the high level crowd is hyped just to have SOMETHING new, but enough already. The only positive thing I can say is that at least it has characters like Alex and Pyron who haven't been milked quite as much as some others. and speaking of graphics, they sure are ugly. I didn't think it was possible ot have background art that clashed as badly as MvsC2's but somehow Capcom has managed. The backgrounds are not even close to being the same art style as the sprites. Please ship the T5 boards to the US now Namco...

Pegasus Kid 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 Anyanka--proudly spending her money to tell you the blatantly obvious. Anyanka's a girl? I always figured it was a guy that was obsessed with Anya. Anyway; the game is pretty fun. As per usual, the 2D fans over at SRK are ripping it to shreds and trying to break the engine to find the hidden goodies that'll make this game have lasting power. Did anyone else buy it? Enjoy it?
