MLB Playoff Preview

Recommended Posts

The Braves will choke anyway, so they might as well go out early against the Astros. (waves Roger Clemens flag)

But the Astros choke a lot WORSE.

So what's your point?

I think the Braves can take it- they just don't lose. They come from behind all the time. Don't count them out

I don't think I could stand the idea of the Sox finally breaking their curse.

I want the Angels, Twins, Braves and Dodgers to win. With my luck, none of them will make it past the first round.

I really hope the Astros don't make it to the World Series especially against the Yankees and Red Sox. I'm already dreading Fox and ESPN beating to death the Clemens vs. former team angle.

The thing I'm worried about this year is what happened two years ago

In '02 when NY and Oakland tied for the best record in baseball, everyone seemed to be looking beyond the DS and expected a NY-Oakland ALCS... and instead we got Anaheim-Minnesota

I could see the same thing happening this year

I'm taking Boston, but like 02, if Anaheim pulls this off I won't be shocked.

Plus seeing Vlad finally in the playoffs is sorta cool.

I'm also quite annoyed that the Sox are "heavy favorites" to win the AL. This team wasn't even good enough to win their own division.

Not good enough to win the division isn't a strong argument. The last two World champions didn't win their division.

Yankees-3

Red Sox-4

Braves-4

Cardnials-3

But nither were heavy favorites to win the league in anyone's books.

Of course the Red Sox can win. Anyone can. They shouldn't be favored.

I'd call the Boston Red Sox the A.L. favorites, but it is not overwhelming. Their Runs scored and allowed is better than anyone else in the league.

Which, as the regular season showed, doesn't equal "win more games than anyone else in the league"

Given that the last team with the best record in the league to win the WS was in '98, I don't think regular season win total matters at all once the postseason begins

But I don't see how any other team can be favored over the best team.

People are basing this "Red Sox are the favorite" based on some stat that ultimately meant nothing in the regular season because it didn't translate to enough wins.

Given that the only two teams with better reg season records than the Red Sox were the Yankees and Cardinals, I could entertain the argument that they are still favored

...if the regular season were to mean anything after the fact, that is

Yankees hottest hitter, Matsui, is batting 6th for reasons not explained.

If their pitching holds up, the Yanks are going to be tough to beat. The only series I'm iffy on is the Red Sox/Angels. The Cardinals choke regularly in the post season, so i see the Dodgers beating them. Astros will have an easy time with the Braves. I predict a Dodgers/Yankees World Series.

The Yankees may have been the team with the best record, but they sure as hell aren't the best team.

To further elaborate...

I just think the pitching is going to kill them overall. Unlike Boston their staff isn't favorable in short playoff series'.

The Twins have a real show with Santana and Radke in their matchups. If the Yanks have a lead after 6 innings though...it's all over for Minny.

We're the Yankees the best team in 2003? They were tied with Atlanta for the best record...

How about 2002? Tied with Oakland for the best regular season record too...

I love how its the Red Sox fans duty to try to convince themselves each year that the Yanks suck and they're going to win. Its amazing. I almost want them to beat the Angels so the Yanks can make them their daddy....AGAIN.

We're the Yankees the best team in 2003?

And in 2002

I don't think the Sox are going to win anything this year.

I don't think it's such a pipe dream this year.

I like the Red Sox starting pitching much better, I'm much more confident in having Bronson on the mound with Derek F. Lowe in the bullpen.

Schilling-Pedro-Bronson-Wakefield (if necessary)

Brown is the scheduled Game 3 starter if Orlando Hernandez is still not able to go.

I wouldn't really toot my horn about Pedro Martinez. If (IF) they beat Anahiem, and if NY beats Minnesota, when was the last time Pedro actually beat the Yankees? Seems like every game this year the Yankees either beat him, or he left the game with a ND.

If Anahiem somehow sweeps Boston, I won't care if the Yankees beat Minnesota or not. I just want to see all the Red Sox fans cry like babies...again, and blame everyone except themselves for losing.

Wait a minute...I think I'm confusing the Sox with the Chicago Cubs.

Yes.

It's alot easier for the best team to lose in the playoffs than it is for the best team to lose in the regular season. Especially when Jeff Weaver is involved.

Leave Weaver alone...he pitched ONE bad game in the World Series. Why not blame him for David Wells' back acting up, forcing him to come out after 1 inning in one of his starts (that the Yanks probably ended up losing)

Ah, yes, Arroyo and Wakiefield strike fear in my heart. Wakefield somewhat more than he should, I'll admit, but Arroyo? Not one bit.

When you can only lose four, you're not allowed to pitch a bad game, without, at the very least, complimenting it with a good one.
