I guess I'm going to have to continue to defend Weaver.  Did he pitch well?  No.

End of discussion.

It's not like he lost a 2-1 game where he gave up two runs in eight innings.

THIS is an awful line. No two ways around it.

He's blown it again on the biggest stage. He's a disaster.

No he didn't pitch well, but Matt Morris could go out and give up that many runs and still have a chance at winning because his offense is so potent. Three runs usually isn't going to beat a team, let alone the best offensive team in baseball.

And he would have pitched a shitty, shitty game.

A bad offensive showing killed Mike Mussina in Game One of the ALDS. The lack of offense wasn't an issue with Weaver because he pitched SUCH a poor game.

You only use the "well, his team didn't score" excuse if the pitcher throws a respectable game where he would have won with decent offense.

I'm not saying he pitched a good game or even deserved a win. I'm saying that even if he had pitched a good game, there's a strong chance it wouldn't have been enough because of the lack of offense.

And if he did, he would get credit.

But he didn't. He shit the bed.

I know... I still crack up every time I see the clip of him singing the National Anthem. Is it even humanly possible to get more into singing a song than he does during that rendition?

One part of me really wishes that Morris would have parked a fastball in Lima's grill when he first came up to bat, just for all of those ridiculous theatrics he does.

Another part of me applauds that the guy has literally resurrected his career and had a chance to shine on the biggest stage in the sport.

Overall, exactly what I predicted happened - we got in trouble when Morris fell behind with some baserunners (and a momentary thanks to the umpires who blew TWO calls in the Lima Bunt fiasco) and they put some on him early. And Lima, who's been an ace at home all season, did exactly what I figured he'd do - steal one from the Cardinals.

Talk about dropping the ball, espn.com's front page does not feature Jose Lima's amazing shutout of the Cardinals. This is like something from the ESPN top 100 list. Everyone thought the Dodgers were done.

That doesn't matter because when a team beats another team twice in a row to go up 2-0 in a series, that overrides anything else.

Top 100 of what?

Not really. Looking at the numbers, there's still a better chance for those to reign true than what's already transpired in two games.

The general consensus was the Cardinals would sweep the Dodgers after going up 2-0.

You think that was a top 100 moment of the past 25 years?

It probably wasn't a top 100 moment of this year.

Okay, so now they win the series in 4 instead of the sweep. If it ends up going 5 that's when the Cardinals might should start worrying a tad. In that case I can't see them losing Game 5 at home anyway.

Not only did they shock people by winning, their starting pitcher shutout the best lineup in baseball. That definitely is worth consideration for a list like that.

I believe he meant it was left off the front page, in similar fashion to all the moments left off the ESPN Top 100 list.

Awesome fucking game by Lima, though. If the Dodgers go on to win this series, the ump error in the third inning is going to be huge.

That isn't what I meant. It is what everyone else who replied thought so far.

Go Cards you need to win tonight because A. I hate LA and B. winning puts Atlanta's game in the evening so I can watch it all and more importantly because Jaret Wright's evening numbers are better then day games.

I want the Cards to win tonight because I know a huge Cardinal fan, but part of me wants to see Weaver blow it in game five.

Lima is a middle-aged Dontrelle Willis.

No, Lima is just a fucking loon. Willis seems like a sane enough guy who just likes having fun.

In addition to wanting the Braves to get a damn evening game tommorow, I want the Cards to win so I can STOP hearing about Lima everywhere.
