Australian Pride Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 I think they should as long as it is treated as the centrepoint of the show, and not as some mid-card event. It should be structured like the 1993 event, which had a good mix of wrestlers including Bret Hart, Mr Perfect and Razor Ramon. The final should be the last match on the card, and all wrestlers should be put in it, not just mid-carders. Still have a World Title match if need be, but position it in the middle of the card.
Guest Coffey Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 I voted for "no" because it doesn't have any credibility left. It'd just be another PPV lost in the 14 throughout the year. Hell, Wrestlemania hardly means anything anymore. How would KotR still be important when people like Mable and Billy Gunn have won it in the past? It's just a useless tournament. Even when they had the winner gets a title shot stipulation, no one cared because going into the tournament it was usually obvious whom was going to win. Brock Lesnar for example. If it were a tournament, all on one PPV, with no main eventer, maybe it could work. MAYBE. Have a normal WWE title match previous to the finals of the KotR. Then, whomever wins the KotR could get an IC title shot. Maybe boost the prestige of THAT title? Round 1 (8 wrestlers, four matches) Round 2 (four wrestlers, two matches) WWE/World Title match Round 3 (two wrestlers, one match) Winner celebration: IC champ staredown. That's eight matches and a full card.
Aero Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 I voted yes, just as long as the tournament is done properly on a normal basis. I don't mind trying to push some new stars to the main event as some of them do work (Brock Lesnar, Steve Austin), but WWE should never push guys like Mabel or Billy Gunn to the moon ever again. I can live without KOTR though. I also think a KOTR win should have some significence other than just an accomplishment to be listed on Tales of the Tape. The winner should automatically get a title shot at the next PPV or on TV.
Guest Ray Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 I only want to see a large multi-show tournament if it means something. KOTR hasn't meant something for years, nor would it if it was revived.
Lil' Bitch Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 I always loved KOTR except for 95 and 99 of course, I always loved the tournament concept and the way it was planned, but it was absolute horseshit when they cut down to cut out the Quarter Finals and just the semi-finals to finals on the 96, 97, 98, 01 02 years. Seeing the winner endure 3 grueling matches all in one night was like the whole point of it being fun.
snuffbox Posted October 8, 2004 Report Posted October 8, 2004 No - The wwf would just fuck it up like they did every year.
Guest Fook Posted October 8, 2004 Report Posted October 8, 2004 Yes. It's a good way to elevate midcard talent. Plus, with the brand split, it adds to the Raw vs Smackdown dynamic. I don't like the "winner gets a title shot at the next ppv" stipulation as it'll make it like the rumble where only two or three guys could conceivably win.
Black Lushus Posted October 8, 2004 Report Posted October 8, 2004 Yeah but if they had Raw AND Smackdown guys participate it could be decent and as long as it isn't phoned in from the moment the tournaments starts a la S.Series 98 with the Rock, it could work well as a stip.
Scroby Posted October 8, 2004 Report Posted October 8, 2004 I voted yes because it could help on the brand split. for the first couple of rounds Raw guys vs Raw guys and Smackdown guys vs Smackdown guys and the final is Raw vs Smackdown and yeah. It should be a inner brand ppv, it would be weird to have the KOTR if it was just for one brand. Or the GM's could get together a few weeks before hand and have there top guys go against each other to prove with is the better band roster wise.
razazteca Posted October 9, 2004 Report Posted October 9, 2004 Only if they use it as the tourny to name a new champ like the new IC or US or tag team.
iliketurtles Posted October 9, 2004 Report Posted October 9, 2004 Well, since they did bring back the Survivor Series Tag Team Matches last year, I wouldn't be shocked to see KOTR brought back next June. It was being over and wrongly used, but at a time it was a big thing to have. Helps with newer guys...considering they've got 50 of them this year along (or at least it seems like it). As long as they don't have only 2 matches the night of the show and either 3 or 4 for each wrestler...I'll be happier.
Guest Phenom Posted October 9, 2004 Report Posted October 9, 2004 I think if they bring back KotR, they should remove some of the throw-away PPVs. My ideal PPV calander would be: January: Royal Rumble Februrary: No Way Out March: WrestleMania April: Backlash May: Judgement Day June: King of the Ring July: The Great American Bash & Bad Blood August: SummerSlam September: Unforgiven October: No Mercy Novemer: Survivor Series December: Armageddon No less, no more. Unless the rosters combine, then take out Bad Blood.
RavishingRickRudo Posted October 9, 2004 Report Posted October 9, 2004 Yes, but not as a PPV. Make it a one-night Raw event. A "Supershow" if you will. Have qualifiers leading up to it, and have an 8 man tournament. ( 7 matches, 10 minutes each = 70 minutes, plus 15 minutes for promos and entrances) They could fit it into a full RAW. Or a split-brand PPV like Scroby said. That's a really good idea, and would give the KOTR actual importance.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted October 9, 2004 Report Posted October 9, 2004 I voted no. The way things are going now it would just lose any credibility it had left as Vince's "Hoss of the Month" would probably win it every year.
