NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2004 I just saw the replay yesterday, and DAAAAAAMN, that was a fight. Tito was the superior fighter, but Mayorga had the heart of a warrior. Tito looks like a better fighter then when he "retired" and he took a risk by fighting a guy like Mayorga his first fight back. I hope he takes a rematch against Hopkins rather then a rematch vs. De La Hoya(who doesn't deserve one at this point, anyway). Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Mayorga putting his gloves down early and letting Tito blast off on him to show his toughness ended up hurting him. He's got a lot of heart, just not enough brains. The man was the first to ko Vargas, Reid, Joppy, etc etc...Mayorga was too cocky, Tito is just way too good. And Trinidad's chin is clearly not nearly as soft as anyone has ever claimed. I am kind of dissapointed that Vargas has dissapeared. I figured he had a bright future ahead of him. I cheered for Tito when he fought Vargas, but Vargas seemed to have good skills, he was just a young punk that needed to be taught a lesson. Of course going on to lose to De La Hoya probably didn't help his ego. On a sidenote: Did Prince Naseem Hamed officially retire or did he just dissapear too? Vargas fought a comeback fight on HBO last year in the summer, winning by ko...he lookd Very good. He has since been injured and continue to deal with personal issues...but he will be back. Calvo, a complete bum, was frowned upon by HBO, and their unwillingness to allow Hamed to continue fighting losers like that is one of the many reasons why hes not fighting these days. But Tarver will be defending against #1 Contender Paul Briggs, December18 on Hbo. Briggs is 23-1, his only loss coming by 3rd round ko in his second fight back in 1997. His biggest wins have come against RJJ-victim Glen Kelly (ko 4), former world champion Jorge Castro (W 10), and unanimous decisions in title-eliminators against Jesus Ruiz and Stipe Drews. Me to at the time, but honestly if I knew it was going to lead to Naseem's dissapearing, I'd say it wasn't worth it. I mean Barerra outboxed him, but he didn't beat him up so badly that it should cause shock and embarrasment, he shouldn't have felt SO BAD that he just vanished.
