He doesn't rap like those mentioned above. Yes he's a sellout, like all those above, but he's still infinite times better than them because he doesn't rap about what's mentioned above. And yes he has insulted his mom, his ex-wife, etc., but it's not like it's the only thing he's rapped about. White America, Square Dancing, Marshall Mathers, Till I Collapse, The Way I Am, are examples of this.

 

I don't know if he's improved or not, his CD coming out in about a month will show this, but up until now he's been great.

There's so many people in the underground who have just as original delivery, better flow, and just as substantial subject matter (I'm not including those stupid Nsync worthy radio songs).

I thought album sales didn't determine an artist's skill. In reality, they don't.

 

Cena has nothing to do with this. He's not close to being a good artist. He's a wrestler.

 

There are also different levels of suckitude. Nelly has to be low on that list, while people like Jay Z and Snoop would be higher. But that still doesn't take away the fact that they still rap about the same shit. Heck, Snoop even has a pimp hanging around with him all day.

 

I guess i'm a minority in being a fan of Eminem. But you're also a minority in the type of rap music you like. Still doesn't change that the people you named are good. And still doesn't change the fact that Eminem is a lyrical genius. Look pass the fluff, and listen to his CDs without looking something to harp on. You act like his best work is "Real Slim Shady", and all those pop songs.

True, he does have the beats. But that shouldn't take away from his overall product.

 

Even if he does say Redman, Nas (who I believe is as good or better than Em), and Jay-Z are better, can it be due to the respect he has for them? He says a lot of people are better than him. Most rappers who have respect for the game won't come out and say he's number one. Eminem usually does respect his peers, unless your name is Ja Rule, who deserves no respect at all.

Eventhough Em has Dre, Em has been producing most of his material himself which brings his (Em) albums down quality wise. Em sucks as a beatmaker/producer. There's alot of emcees that are better and more creative than Em past or present. But ten years from now MTV/white media will dub Eminem G.O.A.T and call him the savior of rap. *Rolls Eyes* I think Em's is a good rapper and all but he's not the best ever. Media and non rap fans who just like Eminem only will point to album sales as justification as why he's G.O.A.T.

The Chronic will always be in the "Top 10 Albums That I Own" list, so yes, I still like that shit that much...I would even go so far as to compare what it did for rap to what nirvana did for Rock, call me crazy, but I would. At a time when nothing but shit was coming out, Dre brought us a great album and help mainstream rap...

 

And, Cena's Writer, I agree with you on the whole "opinion" angle, but Nas is not as good as Eminem, he's TEN TIMES better, so you get the smacks for that!

If Eminem wouldn't have sold as many records as he has and become the "star" that he is nowdays..............he may have been the best in the business. Ghostface is probably my favorite in the Wu no doubt. He is one of the more "slang heavy" rappers out there. So he is rather hard to understand at times.............well, depending on where you live in the country.........

"Shame on a Nigga" and "Dog Shit" will always keep a warm place in my heart for ODB. The Wu-Tang may be my all-time favorites for rap. GZA's king.

 

Eminem isn't bad. He's also not TOTALLY AWESOME. The Slim Shady LP is excellent, and Marshall Mathers, though following a very similar structure and having plenty of down moments, is loaded with good tracks and superb production. Eminem Show is not. Yikes, what a disappointing album. He's stretched into self-parody at this point, and not in the good way.

 

Oh, and Cena's Writer deserves to have his "it's my opinion" license revoked after lumping Jay-Z with G-Unit and Nelly. Someone who believes that Jay "raps about the same shit" is doing exactly what he criticizes the rest of the world doing: listening to 3 singles and making a ridiculous assertion.

Sorry, being that my computer blew up yesterday, I missed most of the arguments.

 

Anyway, Banky made a comment about some many guys in the "underground" being better then Em. Probably so, but do you remember how respected Em was before "Slim Shady LP" dropped? He was well known in the underground, especially for his ability to freestyle.

 

And yes, "Doggystyle" is great. Definitely one of those albums you can listen to from beginning to end. Does anyone know why newer copies of the CD don't have "GZ Up Hoez Down" on it?
