101 ways TNA Impact! could be better.

Recommended Posts

Guest Phenom

It's pretty much the same idea as most of these threads with '101 ways' in the title.

1. Move to 8 PM.

2. Expand to 2 hours.

And...go!

3. Develop younger stars better.

4. Have more competitive matches, since squashes will not sell a PPV or make you think Jeff Jarrett is World Champion material.

Expanding upon #4:

They gotta make some matches that make JJ look like a credible champ. Hardy isn't gonna do it.

I'm not sold on Shelley yet. Of course, I've only seen his TNA work, which has been, uh, not much.

There is a fine line here. The Pay Per View ALWAYS has to be a step up from the television show or else why would people buy what they can get for free? So while you don't want to have all sqaushes, you don't want matches to be *too* competitive, because then your are just giving away on TV what you get on PPV (two full time guys in a competitive match). I agree that it shouldn't be all squashes, but it can't be all big matches either.

I'm not saying to blow the big matches on free TV (unless it's leading to a gimmick match or something similar). Take Jarrett for instance. Instead of sweeping Lex Lovett or Roderick Strong in 90 second matches, have him take on someone with credibility from the midcard. I'm talking about having stuff like Jarrett vs. Sabin, where the fans know it's a formidable opponent and could actually have a shot at victory.

Also, they really need to decide on who is getting elevated, because the interchangeable matchups of 3 Live Kru/Team Canada/The Naturals/Shane/Kazarian, etc. are doing no one any good. Williams and D'Amore are the only ones in Team Canada that I'd call over. The rest are victims of 50/50 booking at it's finest.

Guys like Shelly and Strong, who have proven themselves elsewhere, should be given a chance to shine.

10. Less Goldie

C'mon, use your head a little. There will be NO Goldie on Impact as she is on the outs with Jerry Jarrett and compant. So how can there be less than no?

Besides Bryan Danielson........he's the best at matwork in the indies......

11. They need to create a core of main eventers. Then center the NWA Title around it.

His Impact work is rather boring.

Other than his match with AJ Styles (which was a dark match that was shown on TV from one or two months ago, I think), TNA hasn't given Shelley a chance to shine.

12. Get rid of the in-ring limits for X-Division workers.

13. Make sure people challenging for the X-Division title work "X-Division style," meaning NO pure old school Memphis heels that stick to the mat (Michael Shane), and NO hosses (Bobby Rude).

14. Realize that NOBODY is drawing, so there should be no sacred cows. AMW should not even come CLOSE to the tag titles for a while, as they are stale.

15. Don't waste the money on has-beens who have not drawn in YEARS (looks DIRECTLY at Hall and Nash).

16. Eliminate the Ultimate X. It never generates great matches. Sorry, it just doesn't.

17. Never EVER book an angle based on a guy who hasn't signed a contract yet (*cough*Hulk Hogan*cough*)

18. Take a chance on a new ME'er, since there are no real draws. Give Chris Daniels the push that was robbed from him for Hogan.

19. Cut people. You have WAY too much dead weight. Konnan has NEVER drawn a dime in the US. Road Dogg hasn't drawn a dime since 1998. Simon Diamond is dead in the water. I'd say JJ, but his daddy owns it all, so he'll never leave.

20. Beg ROH to work a program with you. Cross-promotional angles tend to work and TNA needs good, over workers desperately.

Mike.......great points.

I just wanted to expand a little on #20.

20a. Do cross promotion with foreign companies as well. Try and work out deals with Pro Wrestling NOAH in Japan as well as CMLL in Mexico. Relationships with companies like this give your organization a more "Worldly" feel........thus removing the "Southern" feel that it has now.........

DK, I actually think moving the show from Nashville helped them not have the "Southern" feel. I don't get that vibe when watching Impact at all.

But....to add my contribution....

#21. Create a midcard title or bring in the NWA North American title so that guys like Sonny Siaki don't roam the midcard aimlessly. Monty Brown would be a perfect North American champ right now, to help build his crediblity en route to the big belt.

#22. More promo time for guys other than Jarrett. It seems like since Impact started, the only people allowed near the mic have been JJ, Monty and Raven. I know they're all "good" talkers, but the other guys need character development too. I swear at this point you'd think Hardy was mute.

#23 PUSH CHRIS SABIN...this guy was going to be the next AJ Styles, then he got injured as was put on J.O.B patrol. He obviously has talent and can connect with a crowd (he was very over in Nashville w/o much of a character to speak of or promo time). I think TNA would be very wise to have him be the one to unseat Petey Williams and not AJ Styles.

It help their atmosphere to seem not as Southern.....I'll give you that. But watch everything else, from the majority of the wrestlers to the booking........it has "Southern" written all over it.

11. They need to create a core of main eventers. Then center the NWA Title around it.

Let's figure out who this could be, and let's be realistic. We're talking about a national show here, and some guys just wouldn't cut it on that level (main event) because of look, size, or whatever. So, who could legitimately from the active roster get over (with proper push) as a Main Eventer on a national scale?

1. JJ. Unfortunately, he's the only one with a real push so far. There's too much invested in him to just dump him straight away. He must be made to look good, so that he can properly put someone over and it will mean something. Then dump him.

2. AJ. Could be a real star despite size.

3. Truth. Two years ago he was a big star waiting to happen. He's still waiting.

4. Abyss. Seems to be ready, but has never been booked in a serious manner.

5. Daniels. I really don't think he has the size/look to pull off the Main Event, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he can get over.

Is there anyone else? That's all I see, andthat's pretty weak.

Good points too WMD.

Here is the main event picture and how it should be handled.

Give the title to a guy that can have good matches with EVERYONE. I'm thinking AJ is the best for this, or they could try and go storyline route and maybe buildup Daniels to give him a run. I know you don't think he has the size or look to pull it off, but he's very much like RVD(not saying Daniels is a shitty worker), as his moveset pretty much will assure that people will like him. Plus, if he was given a chance to be the champion more people may watch to see what he's about. Also, you would get a shitload of smark support(I know they aren't going to make TNA millions but it IS their core of fan support). Also, Raven deserves to be in the main event picture too. Not because of his ringwork, but because he would be the feud guy. He would support the storyline driven feud, and realize it or not.......TNA could use that. Abyss, should simply be the monster of the Main Event scene. He could be a constant force in TNA........if they could only build him up correctly. Also, Alex Shelly could ME as well. He is a GREAT heel and could play the cocky smartass role as good as anyone. Naturally Jarrett would be a main eventer too, just use him as someone with a little name value. Plain and simple, JJ would be fine..................if spread out a little bit. Killings should have never been taken out of the main event picture as he is the only guy I actually witnessed get over with a crowd in TNA. That is, on his own. He may have won the title twice, but TNA NEVER booked him to look strong..................and he still got over. He SHOULD be a star for this company, but they have managed to muffle that to the best of their abilities. But I think this about covers it, as you could move others in and out of the main event picture(I'm thinking Monte Brown on this one). Too bad they are sooooo out of touch with THEIR OWN PRODUCT. If the company goes out of business...............the lack of main event interest will be a major reason.

Raven could be added, but honestly almost in the same capacity as JJ. Let him have a great fued to elevate someone else. I know he could pull it off.

I agree about Daniels. Giving him the belt would probably be a wise move for TNA.

I'm gonna have to look into Shelley, because I just can't see him main eventing. Strong midcarder? Sure, but he wears basketball shorts.

WMD, you know I hold people up to higher standards(at least I hope you know that by now) as far as wrestling goes. So if I say Shelley is worth it...........you can believe I didn't just pull it out of nowhere. He's an awesome heel, and has decent charisma to boot. TNA just doesn't let him show it. Hell, in ROH he's the leader of a heel stable........and he's pretty good in that role. Trust me WMD, he has cocky smartass heel down pat..........

Yeah, I trust your judgement, that's why I want to see more of him. So far I've got nothing. He's gotta change the shorts though. (OK, I'm joking about the shorts. They look goofy, but I don't care.)

*resists gay porn joke*

It's all good. I would recommend checking some of his ROH and IWA-MS stuff out for sure..........

Are there any plans for another ROH DVD to be released to Media Play. The only one I've ever seen there is Era of Honor.

I don't believe Shelley is on any of those. But I think they have already been released...............just many places aren't carrying them.

Goldie did nothing for Abyss and Alex Shelly when she was their manager.
