Brush with Greatness Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 Personally I hate God Bless America being played during the stretch. Hell, they took a fun part of the game and turned around into this serious reflection of the world stage. What the hell is the point of the Star Spangled Banner then?
NoCalMike Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 I could see a reason to do it for awhile, but can it already.
Brush with Greatness Posted October 25, 2004 Author Report Posted October 25, 2004 GBA doesn't bother me. That's surprising considering that your Yankees had won three straight championships and looked primed for a fourth throughout the 2001 season. Unfortunately, they made the switch and have failed in every season since. Like I pondered in the ALCS thread, could there be a curse on the Yankees for altering the great "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" tradition?

Another was the great pitching meltdown of 02. 01 and 04 can be looked at as curses, I suppose.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 I buy "The Curse of Giambi" more then I do "Curse of Take Me Out"

Guest Evolution Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 God Bless America seems more like a pre-game thing than a seventh inning stretch thing. So to answer, Take Me Out To The Ballgame.

Jorge Gorgeous Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 I'm okay with GBA being played at Yankee Stadium and Shea, seeing as how they're extra relevant, but its time for it to go everywhere else.
the max Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 Take Me Out, but only when either the fans sing or someone leads them (ala Wrigley). My goal is to see a sausage race in Milwaukee too. That's a cool and fun idea.
2GOLD Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 God Bless America was a stupid song before 9/11 and it's still a stupid song. If they must sing a Patriotic America song, at least sing a good one. GBA makes me turn off the tv.
Guest Smues Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 God Bless America is a terrible song. If they want to play something do the national antheme again or something, but man GBA sucks heaping piles of ass.
CanadianChris Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 I'm still waiting for an explanation as to why they continue to play it at every Blue Jays home game.
The Czech Republic Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 God Bless America is a terrible song. If they want to play something do the national antheme again or something, but man GBA sucks heaping piles of ass. Agreed. It's just a crappy song, usually crappily sung. At least they don't have to start every game with the Pledge of Allegiance, look at it that way.
Red Baron Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 I'm still waiting for an explanation as to why they continue to play it at every Blue Jays home game. Well, Canada is the 53rd state in the eyes of Americans, and Baseball is an American game.
Big McLargeHuge Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 So, which would be the 51st and 52nd states?
CanadianChris Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 So, which would be the 51st and 52nd states? Confusion and denial?

cbacon Posted October 27, 2004 Report Posted October 27, 2004 I'm still waiting for an explanation as to why they continue to play it at every Blue Jays home game. What? They canned the "OK Blue Jay!" song?

treble Posted October 27, 2004 Report Posted October 27, 2004 I went to a game this year, and I don't remember them playing GBA. They did play the other song, along with Take Me Out...
CanadianChris Posted October 27, 2004 Report Posted October 27, 2004 Hey, there was a bright spot to this season after all, then.
