1234-5678 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 I'm not sure what it is. I'm ridiculously congested, and can barely bring any of the mucus up because it is so thick. Also I am feeling totally exhausted, but can barely sleep more then an hour because of the constant coughing, and my head is aching. I'm taking some Sudafed Day Cold shit that doesn't seem to be doing anything. I hope it doesn't turn into anything serious, cause I am uninsured. At this point, I'd prefer death over a hospital visit. Could Stephen King's Superflu finally have escaped?
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted October 28, 2004 I had something similar last winter. I essentially kept the cough medicine next to my bed and went through about a bottle a day. Eventually the sleep thing got better as I was so sick I slept 18 hours a day. If you're coughing up green shit you should probably go to the doctor.
1234-5678 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Nah, it's not green. It's brown. Not that that is any better.
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 I also had similar symptoms last winter. I caugt that death flu taht was going around. I ran a 100+ temperature for two weeks, coughing and weezing the enire time with a occasional bout of puking. It was probably the worst illness I ever had. When I told my aunt that since I' saw B.B. King, I could die happy, I never meant it. But I tell ya, during those two weeks, death would have been nice.
Guest sarafromsweden Report post Posted October 28, 2004 being sick sucks.... two weeks ago, my throat was so swollen (how do you spell that btw?) that at night when I tried to sleep, I got scared and thought I was dying because my throat made this sounds like "weeeee, weeee" everytime I took a breathe. scary. hope you get better! Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted October 28, 2004 JAxl, since you're a drunkard, here's a hot toddy recipe: Put a couple measures of brandy or whiskey in a coffee mug, put in about half as much lemon juice as booze, and fill the rest with hot tea. Top it with some nutmeg. It'll clear your sinuses.
1234-5678 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Will it clear out the filth that is now crowding my lungs? If my breathing starts to sound any worse, fuck this, I am going to the hospital.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Why? So they can tell you that you've got bronchitis, give you an unnecessary antibiotic, and tell you to get plenty of rest and drink lots of fluids? There, I just saved you some money. Chances are this is viral anyway, so meds aren't even going to help. Wash your hands after you go potty, and don't touch public doors, pay phones, or those fucking disgusting escalator rails or elevator buttons.
1234-5678 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Yeah but antibiotics gotta be better then this ineffective Sudafed horseshit. The only thing stopping me from going right now is the fact that there is nothing I hate worse then waiting in the goddamn Emergency room.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Oh that decongestant shit's a waste, too. It's not like your body is going to quit producing mucus when it needs it. Unless you've got something really remarkable, it'll go away without the assistance of some overpaid meat magician.
Angel_Grace_Blue 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 I took some stuff, Mucinex, that was pretty good at thinning the mucus a bit so I could actually breathe.
Golgo 13 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 It's gotta be bronchitis. I went in for the very same a few years ago, spending a few days at home before going to the hospital as it got worse. They gave me antibiotics, but it was still a week of hell after that. It was a waste of time and money, I thought.
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 A home remedy what I use for congestion and cough etc. bowl of boiling hot soup, flavoured however you like it, stock wise. two or three or four spoons of the most vicious hot sauce you can find some vegetables Box of kleenex to contain the run off that comes when after you've loosened everything up to create the mucous tidal wave. MrRant 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Horseradish. Inhale deeply or eat a spoonfull.
Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Jaxl.....if your mucus turns green you'll probably need an antibiotic. Ask for something called a Z-pack......it'll clear you up in about 2 or 3 days max.
Guest Nanks Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Do you have Buckley's in the US or is that just Canada?? That shit is gold. I've had these same symptoms 3 times this year. I'm only just seeing the back end of my latest bout. Which was appalingly timed right through my exam period. (Which ended yesterday by the way. WHOOO!!!). But Agent's right, a doctor really isn't going to do much for you. If you can't get your hands on any Buckley's then just stick with the chicken soup and the time tested eucalyptus steam to relieve congestion. Come to think of it, do you have eucalyptus oil in the US???

I'm telling you...........it's the superflu. And now I am scheduled to return to work Saturday so I can infect many many others.
Guest Nanks Report post Posted October 28, 2004 You haven't even got any blood in your phlegm. Quit your whining.
1234-5678 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Time will tell on that one. Besides, is there any reason for a 23 year old to ever have blood in their phlegm? Alright, maybe alcoholism.
Guest Nanks Report post Posted October 28, 2004 I've blood in my phlegm and I'm only 21.
1234-5678 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Stop having unprotected sex. Or smoking. Or both.
Guest Nanks Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Never had a drag of a cigarette in my life. So that can't be it. Haven't had unprotected sex since my unsuccessful attempts to breed in Canada in order to obtain another visa. Am I really the only one that coughs up blood with a bad flu??
1234-5678 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 I've had blood when I've had really bad colds, yeah. I always attributed it to all the drinking I do, or the smoking that I used to.
Guest Nanks Report post Posted October 29, 2004 Drinking may be the common link. Tremendous. Crisis over.
1234-5678 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2004 So, since it is all drinking's fault, going out for a few beers with the guys can't possibly do any more harm right? The damage is already done............. I'm an idiot.
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2004 Might as well get drunk. Hell, a few shots of Jameson's might cure ya right up. At least you'll be drunk, so being sick won't seem so bad...
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted October 29, 2004 Smoking buds might help you out some here. As Agent's pointed out numerous times, THC opens up your bronchial tubes. Speaking of which, Unless you've got something really remarkable, it'll go away without the assistance of some overpaid meat magician. ^^I'm in agreement with this 100%. I haven't gone to an actual physician since we got physicals for football back in high school, the only doctors I've seen since have all been of the psychiatric variety (who I also found were unnecessary later, to an extent anyways). A good strong habit of taking Vitamin C and E with Orange Juice everyday coupled with sleep and plenty of water usually kills an illness for me. Funny enough, the last two times I was sick was right during finals week. I think it's partially if not wholly stress-induced.
1234-5678 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2004 Eh, I didn't go out. For some reason, being in the shower caused a totaly relapse, and now I can add vomiting and vicious headaches to my list of complaints. Ugh.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted October 29, 2004 Would Jim Morrison go to the doctor? I think not.
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2004 Damnstraight. If Jim had gone to the doctor, rather than be a REAL MAN, he might still be alive.
