I'm guessing that Meyer gets some more seasoning in AAA...but that still leaves twelve spots for thirteen pitchers. (Etherton got guaranteed money, didn't he?)

Same with Calero, Rincon, Duchscherer, Haren, Blanton, and Meyer. All of those guys can be optioned down to AAA, if need be. As for Tyler Johnson, the Athletics could elect to send him back to the Cardinals if they choose. Most Rule V draftees do not stick. If Johnson can not harness his control, the A's will let him go after Spring Training.
Bored Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 Duchscherer is out of options and he's too important to the bullpen anyways to send down. Blanton could be optioned if he struggles. Haren has already used up at least two options. I know Johnson is a Rule V pick but as things stand right now I don't think he'll make the team. If Meyer does start the year in Sacramento then that would open up a spot in the bullpen for Johnson. Etherton is the wild card in all of this but he's going to need a great spring to make the club. They have almost too much bullpen depth at this point so I could see someone being traded during the Spring. Chad Bradford would have been in the Eric Byrnes/Mike Cameron deal if it had happened.

They also say the Cubs have another deal on the table that will bring Aubrey Huff to Chicago.

It's not even like he had one subpar season last year that could have just been a random fluke. Camden Yards would obviously pay to his strengths though. This whole off season, its been "We are not going to overpay for anybody". It would be a real waste to pay a ton of money for Sosa after being conservative on everyone else all winter.

Saw that on ESPNews and they were are wondering what kind of a blow losing the Orioles "closer" would be to their pitching staff. And they were serious. Isn't Huff an IF? He was an outfielder before last year when he played third base. He's really a man without a set position but obviously he'd be a corner outfielder for the Cubs, if he's traded.

Greys and blues will still have names as per NL rules. I bet that's the real reason Sammy Sosa wants to leave.
