One of the concerns for me with this election is it seems like a large proportion of the country came out for "moral issues." I have no problem with having morals. I mean I have morals. The problem is when people try to force these morals on others that don't share them it causes tension. This is one of the reasons our country is "divided." We've got so-called "intellectuals" and so-called "moralists." Both sides are horribly stubborn and don't see the obvious middle road with these issues. Bush sees them (Civil Unions for example), so that makes me happy...but I'm not sure if the members of Congress do (like the idiot from Oklahoma) and apparently the stubborn portion of the American public doesn't either. We do not need to further regulate "obscene behavior." I think TV is fine but radio could be a little more leanient. Do not touch the porn industry. It's my only means for happiness. You'll have to pry the porn from my cold, dead, sticky hands.

 

As for intertnational dealings and terrorism. I honestly believe steps will be taken to restore our image. I don't particullarly agree with the way Bush is fighting terrorism, but I also don't have a better solution...so....

I had this debate with my parents the other night.

 

Morals are subjective. What offends you, may not offend me... however there are a few morals that we can all agree with like not killing one another lol

 

I know MANY people where I live (bible belt) that voted for Bush simply because he wants to pass a gay marriage ban. While his economic policies are debateable, most of these friends of mine, when pressed for the definition of a deficit, couldn't answer the question, nor could they name the central issues of the campaign.

 

I also know that theres a great amount of people that only voted for Kerry because they hate Bush and they couldn't answer the questions either.

 

This kind of thinking offends and bothers me. The "I'm voting for Bush because he doesn't want to allow gay marriage" people drive me nuts because the thinking behnd it, in my opinion, is selfish. It's pretty much saying "jobs? Fuck jobs! Keep the queers from marrying and I'll be happy". Bush could be the next Carter and these people will still vote for him because they think Jesus put him there.
