Kevin Smith / Jason Mewes to appear on Degrassi

Recommended Posts

Did anyone see the movie, after DH ended?

There was a movie?! That's the first I've heard of it!

Can someone summarize what basically happened, please?

Degrassi: School's Out

Anyways, school ends. Caitlyn and Joey are seeing each other but Caitlyn is really busy at work so they don't get to see much of each other and Caitlyn doesn't put out. Joey decides to fuck Tessa Campinelli on the side. Joey finally fucks Caitlyn too and I even think Joey and Caitlyn maybe get engaged (maybe not).

BTW, for "School's Out" to work, you have to assume that everyone in Joey and Caitlin's class fast tracked (4 years) through high school while everyone in Snake/Spike/Wheels' class slow tracked (5 years) since I believe that everyone had graduated at this point.

And one more thing. Why don't they release the original series on DVD? Hell, get View Askew to distribute even. I know I for sure would but it all up.

Probably the same reason You Can't Do That On Television (another brilliant Canadian show, but in a very different way) isn't on DVD - they'd probably have to pay royalties to a lot of production people, and either a) they don't want to do that, or b) they're hard to track down.

I have DeGrassi High on VHS through WGBH in Boston. My parents got the wrong set for Christmas. This time my sister and I demand DJH.

This goes along with my theory.

At the time, Ontario high school students had a program called the Ontario Academic Credit (or OAC) which allowed them to graduate in either 4 or 5 years whereas prior to it you graduated after grade 13 (5 years). Similar to university, you were required to get 30 credits, 6 of which had to be at the OAC level. In essence, you could fuck around for a year on the taxpayer's loonie, since you'd have to be an idiot in order to not get the required credits.

Anyways, if everyone (that mattered) from the younger class graduated in 4 years, while the older class screwed around for a year, then the 10-year reunion works. Although what Duane the HIV+ guy (I thought was in a higher grade?) is doing there I'm not sure.

Dwayne was a sped.

Man, I want the DJH tapes so bad. High school years just aren't the same. They do have CLOWED, of course, with such classic lines as:

"I know! Let's paint anti-nuclear slogans on their walls!"

or

"It looks like a box. Perhaps you should open it."

I'm glad he offed himself.

Oh, as for people who are like "hey wait a second, TCR isn't from Canada, how does he remember the show?" the reason is that my 7th grade health class was nothing more than thirty days of Degrassi Junior High tapes. The tests were to name as many characters as you could. I'm not making this up. My neighbor taught 8th grade health, retired as of this year. He has the whole series on tape and offered to let me borrow some of them since the Degrassi curriculum was massively scaled back in 1999 to make room for stupid computer stuff.

He was responsible for one classic moment (in my mind), which was sending Caitlin flowers from BEYOND THE GRAVE~! The movie was on here about a week ago and I unfortunately missed it.

About a year and a half ago I was on a streetcar in Toronto and saw the actress who played (plays, I guess) Lucy standing on the side of the street.

I wish I didn't leave my Degrassi High tapes at home. I want to watch the one where they get stoned and Melanie says to Kathleen:

"So your boyfriend beats you up, you're anorexic, and your mom is crazy....your life SUCKS!.......I'm hungry."

I have to start watching this show if all of the old characters keep coming back. For anyone that saw Wheels' cameo, did they talk about his time in jail?

Yes, they did.

Snake is going through Chemo, feels like crap, is angry at everyone, and wants to die. Wheels shows up to cheer him up. Snake tells him he can't understand what he's going through, Wheels tells him that he knows what it's like to want to die because he felt it while in prison.

Kevin Smith never made it a secret that he loved Degrassi.

Caitlin in "Clerks" is named after Caitlin from "Degrassi", Shannon Doeherty wears a jacket that says "Degrassi" in Mallrats, plus there was the dialoge from Chasing Amy.

He was supposed to play Caitlin's fiance in the pilot for Degrasi: TNG, but he was too busy filming J&SBSB and they got Don McKellar to play the roll instead.

"The Big Dance": Voula does the wrong thing for the right reason when she sneaks out to go to the big dance, much to her strict father's dismay.

"The Experiment": Arthur has a plan that will prove Mr. Raditch is biased against Yick, but ends up putting the "fool" in a foolproof idea.

"The Best Laid Plans": Stephanie asks Wheels out on a date, but bravado and overheard conversations lead both of them to imply to their friends that they're going to "do something" - though neither is sure that they're ready for it.

"Nothing To Fear": When L.D.'s dad goes into the hospital, L.D. is terrified. Years ago, her mother died while undergoing treatment at a hospital and L.D. is scared that her father may die also.

Degrassi Junior High - Season 1, Vol. 3 (130 minutes):

"What A Nigh"t: Lucy's clothes are always sophisticated - Voula wishes she could dress like her. Voula goes shopping with Lucy, but when she finds out Lucy doesn't pay for her clothes, it's too late - the police have been called.

"Smokescreen": When cynical Rick suddenly takes an interest in the Environmental Action Committee, Caitlin decides he can be redeemed if people will give him the chance.

"It's Late!": When Spike's period is late, she can hardly believe it - she never meant to go as far as she did with Shane. She is torn apart, not knowing what to tell Shane, or worse, her mother.

"Parents' Night": When Wheels' birth father shows up out of the blue, Wheels has to deal with his feelings about his adoptive parents, his birth parents, and who he really is.

"Revolution": To make Wheels jealous, Stephanie, the school president, puts Joey into the vacant post of Sports Rep. But the position is traditionally held by a seventh grader and the entire seventh grade class starts a move to impeach her.

No way. No way...only $40, too? Wow. Much better than PBS.

I am SO getting this. DeGrassi Junior High is unbelievable.

Well, if the presale is $28, I'm sure it'll actually be around the $30 mark when it does come out...

Wow! That's awesome. So fucking awesome. I think I am more excited about this than Seinfeld. The first junior high season is probably the least interesting (was never a big Voula fan) of any of the Degrassi Jr. High/Degrassi High seasons but it's still solid. But it does have Stephanie Kay. And "Best Laid Plans" is an awesome ep.
