And for bonus points, here are five players frequently mentioned in trade talks. Are they traded, and if so, where?

1. Sammy Sosa - Not traded. I can't see anyone taking him with the trade kicker on his contract.

2. Randy Johnson - Yes, White Sox.

3. Kevin Brown - Yes, after reading Stark's latest article I'll take the Phillies flyer here. Makes sense, short term pitching to bridge to Madson-Floyd-Hamels.

4. Charles Johnson - Not traded

5. Jose Guillen - Yes, I'll just guess Cubs to replace Alou. I don't see him going back to Anaheim after how this season ended.

Finally, does Roger Clemens retire? No

To everyone picking Cabrera to stick with Boston, the only way that happens is if he accepts arbitration for one year...and that isn't happening in this market.

Who do you think the Sox SS will be next year?

Probably some aging stiff to hold the position until Hanley Ramirez is ready in 2006. Maybe even re-signing Pokey Reese to play SS for a year.

No way they give a SS a long term deal right now.

Zero thought given with these:

1. Carlos Beltran - Astros

2. Adrian Beltre - Dodgers

3. Brad Radke - Red Sox

4. Edgar Renteria - Cardinals

5. Pedro Martinez - Angels

6. Carlos Delgado - Blue Jays

7. Magglio Ordonez - Mets

14. Armando Benitez - Indians

15. Odalis Perez - Dodgers

16. Troy Percival - Cubs

17. Matt Clement - Rangers

18. Orlando Cabrera - Angels

19. Jeff Kent - Yankees

20. Moises Alou - I'd say the Washington whatevers, but since i doubt they'll be spending anything i'll randomly pick the Giants

And for bonus points, here are five players frequently mentioned in trade talks. Are they traded, and if so, where?

1. Sammy Sosa - Not traded

2. Randy Johnson - Not traded, until later in the season anyway.

3. Kevin Brown - Not traded

4. Charles Johnson - Athletics

5. Jose Guillen - I don't know... White Sox, maybe.

And Roger doesn't retire. Or he retires and comes back again anyway.

Orlando Cabrera to Florida, why??

Alex Gonzalez is one of the few Marlins who makes a big salary - so it's not like they will stick him on the bench. Add in the fact that he produced 7.5 Win Shares in the field (.4 more than your gold glove winner who everyone raves about in LA - PLEASE) and he hit over 20 HRs last year. Sure, he has problems, but he's one of the players I feel comfortable with in the 8 spot in the lineup.

Money could be much better spent. Delgado is the BEST option. You could move Conine back to the OF - ship that slug Encarnacion to whatever team is brainless enough to take him and then in 2 years when Jeremy Hermida is ready for the bigs put Conine out to pasture. It's the smart thing to do, so of course it won't happen.

Gonzalez is just a terrible, terrible hitter. And when you are making playing time distinctions based on salary, you've lost the battle. I'd like to see the Marlins target Christian Guzman. He'll give you better defense, a slightly better OBP, and he can run.

Plus that gives the Marlins three burners between Pierre, Castillo and Guzman. Their team speed is always something to watch. Between Pierre and Castillo, they have two leadoff hitters. Adding Guzman would give them three.
